So 1. Anyone know a good importer who can bring in a gently used one a few years old

I bet this boy NEVER leaves the classroom without permission again.

So you guys think he needs more farang punishment, like standing in the corner for 10 minutes? Or writing 100 times "i will never leave the classroom without permission" on a of piece paper. Or you won't get pocketmoney for 2 weeks now.

I can still give you all the full names of all the teachers who ever hit me. And i don't even blame them cause they were right in doing so.

Just look in the malls and see how unmannered the Thai kids are, even when the parents call them to stop running like crazy they won't listen at all.

Agree with your point, but 99 times is batshit insane.

Wrong attitude, stupid, doomed for failure..... It is highly presumptuous to assume that the "people in charge" in Thailand are not aware of the probable results of their (non)actions. I would rather think that it a position deliberately taken to preserve the status quo and the fullest measure of "thainess" possible. Openness to the world trough  proper education  and a working knowledge of the english language might very well result in unwanted change.

Yeah, they’ll certianly get the fullest measure of “thainess” possible. Lot’s of money wasted and failure as foreign companies like lazada, grab taxi and foodpanda swooping in and stealing the market. Genius.

  4. What about millionaires who self insure? Why should they be forced to pay for crappy insurance if they can just pay out of pocket without battering an eyelid? I don’t know of any country that requires to see health insurance when you show up at customs, why should Thailand be an exception? If it was anywhere it should be first world countries where health care isn’t as cheap as Thailand.

  5. Very happy with mine, had it about a year now but only put about 6,000 Km's on it. Averaging about 6L/100km but I drive it like its stolen most of the time.

The diesel motor has lots of torque and its great for overtaking on the freeway. Coming from a brand new BMW in the USA this cars interior is still totally on point, and for the money it can't be beat.

  6. I run a startup with 10-20 employees in Chiang Mai. The gov is making a lot of noise about Startups and innovation but the problem is there's simply not enough skilled university graduates. Anyone who has attempted to post a job looking for thai people with even basic web development skills have a better chance at finding a snowball in hell. Because of this, most of my staff are foreigners (We had to set up a BOI company which allows this). They do require us to bring in thai staff to train but most barely know how to use a computer or speak english after completing university.

On the other hand, there is a huge amount of talented foreigners in the country that are software engineers, digital nomads and so on. So far the Ministry has made absolutely no attempt to take advantage of this foreign resource inside the country and cross pollinate talent between foreigners and thais. After reaching out to them none of the programs are available unless you are a thai citizen, all the startup programs are 100% in thai and not in English. They simply aren't interested in talking to you unless you are thai. This is the wrong attitude.

Most countries are doing everything they can to attract highly skilled foreign talent, Thailand already has them here but they aren't smart enough or don't show any interest in taking advantage of that. Stupid.

Last time I checked computer coding was done in English, so why are all these startup programs in Thai with people who can barely speak/read/write English?

There are also no attempts that i've seen particularly in the north to train thai computer science graduates skills that are relevant in the real world. Unless they address education and bring foreigners into the program (on any capacity, even teachers) then it's a missed opportunity.

I wish them luck but they have already doomed themselves for failure.

Work online usually requires very little bandwidth, but watching high-definition videos across continents is what brings the internet on its knees. Don't blame the ISP; you have youtube, netflix, instagram, itunes, skype video and friends to thank.

What an incredibly ignorant thing to say. First off perhaps you should read my post - the Sinet connection isnt stable. Almost hourly the entire connection is toast for a period of time. Take a look at wisemonkeys post from last year, he had the same problem and lost money on a trade because it was constantly going down. This is what I am reporting also. This has nothing to do with how we are using the service.

Second, how we use the service shouldnt matter. 30mbit is 30mbit. Your average streaming video requires 5. On top of that I am paying 3500 baht per month for business grade.

Saying its because too many people are watching videos and using skype is like saying its our fault the electric grid goes down hourly because too many people are running their air conditioner and their electric cooktop.

  8. Totally acceptable speeds but only works reliably 95% of the time. The other 5% of the time you are SOL. If your peak usage time (like for me, who is at the office all day) is between 10pm and midnight, you are totally screwed. If you want to watch some USA Netflix in this time you have about a 20% chance of it not working at all.

If you work online and your Internet really matters for you I recommend you look for better alternatives. Sinet is consistently unreliable and cannot be counted on for business. It WILL drop out randomly enough to cause you serious swearing and aggravation.

At least once per hour for anywhere between 5 seconds to up to 10 minutes there will be 100% packet loss and time outs.

Over the last year I can say i’ve called their support line about 20 times. To their credit they put on a great show of trying to solve my problem. They are courteous and even call back! They’ve attempted to reroute my overseas connection for my shows, and they’ve sent engineers to test the line.

It usually goes like this: Engineers come and test my line, run a speed test (to Bangkok of course), say its working perfectly then leave. An hour or two later all my connections to the USA drop out completely. Or just my entire connection to everywhere including Thailand.

Throughout the day all my business apps and tools such as Slack drop offline and time out. Then after a few minutes its back to working again. Or not.

I even upgraded to the slower, more expensive business plan to get less shaping and get priority routing overseas but I’m still plagued with problems.

Throwing money at them doesn’t work, calling them constantly doesn’t work.

Internet is a Utility, like electricity. I should be able to count on it. It shouldn't randomly turn off the lights for a few minutes randomly every hour of every day and reset all my appliances.

I've attached a speedtest of my route to New York tonight which is why I can’t watch HBO this evening. I'm sure an hour later it will be back up over 10mbit/5mbit again but that doesn't help me now does it?
