Back to back Visa exempts will be scrutinised and could lead to a refusal.
Far safer to get a Tourist Visa, or at least alternate.
There are no limits on extensions.

Thanks for the info Faz , with regards to when you are first issued your Visa , does the 1 year start as soon as its issued or when you first enter Thailand ?
It has an 'enter before' date, which is dated I year from the date of issue.

Reentry Permits
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

An O-A Visa is valid for 1 year, but each entry allows another 1 year permission to stay.
You state your Visa is valid up to 2nd Jan 2017 (enter before date)
You last entered on 12th June 2016 and were given a one year permission to stay until 11th June 2017.
The multiple entry part of your Visa expires with your Visa (2nd Jan 2017)
You have been given permission to stay until 11th June 2017.
To travel between 2nd Jan and 11th June you can obtain a re-entry permit (single or multiple) which keeps your permission to stay valid.
If you leave and re-enter on 1st Jan you will be given another 1 year permission to stay until 31st Dec 2017.
