"Whether Canada would be safer than Thailand regarding burglary is a moot point, notes Thaivisa. Online statistics from the World Data Atlas suggest that in 2010 Canada had 578 burglaries per 100,000 people. In the same year knoema.com suggested the Thai rate was just 9.6 per 100,000.

And the Thai burglary rate had almost halved by 2016."

I am not Canadian but I don't believe these numbers at all.

I am Canadian and I do believe the numbers.  Thieves are brazen as hell in Canada nowadays because nothing happens to them when they get caught.  Rural crime has gotten ridiculous in my part of the country.  We got Yabba there too!

Guy wears a mink coat, he should get the chair.  No matter how he got his money.

As far as the OP- did they catch a bad guy, or just get rid of some competition?  Or 2 birds with one stone?  I can see where they'd refuse a million dollar bribe if the guy was costing someone in charge billions in lost business.

He should get the chair for wearing a Mink coat???  What the hell does that mean?

  3. Leave it to Trudeau to blame the "tensions", aka Trump, instead of going after the government and military that pulled the trigger.  Having the half-witted spawn of Castro driving my country into the ground every day is damned painful.  Then again, what does one expect from someone who thinks "the budget will balance itself" while piling up incredible debt in a few short years.  His list of gaffes is long and the stench of his brand of hypocritical leftism wafts far and wide.  On behalf of Albertans, who overwhelmingly voted against him in the election a few months ago, I apologize for anything he says, does, or represents.  All I can hope for is that one day he does a good imitation of Robert Budd Dwyer and shoots himself in the head on live television.  Seriously, the guy is a complete scumbag and is hated by large swaths of society in Canada for many good reasons.  Our anthem used to be "Oh, Canada" but soon it will be "Poor, Canada" thanks to him and his ilk in the Liberal Party of Canada.  But, hey, he does have cute socks, eh!  ????

There are certain times of the year/holidays when nothing good happens here.

Stay in room, have a beer, watch TV and sleep.

Amen!  The only people who think fireworks are great are the ones who have never been shot at.  I am a veteran and don't respond well to fireworks of any kind so on holidays in Pattaya I have to be a hermit.  Sucks but better than ending up in jail for beating the hell out of some idiot for throwing firecrackers at me on the street.

  5. I had an implant (upper molar) installed two years ago, and then crowned last year at a small clinic in Jomtien.  Thai Smile clinic by Dr Nan at Soi Welcome Jomtien.  He is excellent and although clinic is tiny, it was a great experience.  Very little pain and he did not try to do anything extra.  Price quoted was all-inclusive including panoramic x-rays.  He did his implant specialization at UCLA in the US. Implant itself was 30K and best quality zirconia crown was 14K.  There were cheaper options, but I think quality matters.

  6. Let's hurry and make Pattaya just like everywhere else in the world...  I, for one, love going there because I am <deleted> well allowed to smoke.  People who don't like it can go to about a million other places where everything is banned.  The place is like a tiny bastion of freedom in a world full of rules, regulations, and political correctness.  I love that they can't even enforce a tenth of the rules they have.  It is fantastic!

That said, I think I will go outside in the <deleted> cold and smoke...  oh yeah, it will mean I get to breathe poisonous diesel exhaust, which people the world over seem to be perfectly ok with.  Idiots!

  7. What a crock...  I am from Canada and to say we have a total democracy there is a complete and utter lie.  35% of the vote is all that is required to have a majority government (ie dictatorship) there...  Our civil liberties also continue to be eroded with every passing day.  We have 3 political parties of which two only ever get into power...  political participation is low because, just like everywhere else, the rich get their way no matter what.  We also have a prime minister who has no qualifications and got elected because his father was PM 30 years ago and he is nice to look at.  If Canada is one of the most democratic nations in the world then that is basically saying democracy is dead.  Thailand is not so bad...

  8. Second winter of living in Pattaya...  I go out often until the wee hours.  Never seem to have problems with anyone, but, I don't wear designer clothing or fancy gold jewelry, nor do I misbehave or get stinking drunk.  To do so is to invite problems...  there are a whole lot of poor people in this city and country.  Personally I am thankful for the peacocks who want to flaunt their gold because they attract the thieves which makes things safer for me!  ;)
