  1. Entered on JUL 5, stamp until OCT 2. Currently not sure if I will fly anywhere before OCT 2.

I read somewhere that you can not do your first 90 day report online, is this true?

Somebody in this thread mentioned some issue when staying at hotels. I rent a place long term, which is the usual address that immigration has on file for me, for example from my last address certificate I needed. But I also stay in hotels / resorts a lot.

Not sure if any of the hotels or resorts I stayed at in the past 90 days did any address reports. Am I at risk of getting an address mismatch and what happens if my 90 day reports fails due to this and I don't know about it because it might take a few days to be notified of this fact, and then I fly out for example on OCT 5?

I read that I have 7 days past OCT 2 to do the 90 day report in person, does that also apply to the online application?

Do I also have time to fly out for 7 days past OCT 2 without doing a 90 day report?

  2. Looking for recommendations on where to have a German teenager learn Thai in Phuket without prior knowledge.

The teenager is a dual Thai / German citizen who went to school in Germany for 6 years and can also read/write and communicate well in English.

An in-person course / class would be best as opposed to a private teacher, for the purpose of also making friends and being around people. South of the island preferred.

A Thai government school or a private school isn't really an option at this time, as the family needs to be able to travel even on short notice. So there should be no rigid schedule, pressure to not miss classes or tests. The focus would be purely on the language, not on other subjects.

  3. Constant worries about land ownership, laws, trust, building quality, good location, in-laws?

Seeing that camper vans and mobile homes are not that common in Thailand, I often wonder if they should be more common, especially for foreigners ..

I found those pictures online, not from Thailand, but with a slight variation of roof size/shape, taking heavy rains into consideration, something like this might be cool for some people in Thailand.

Drive to the countryside, or beach resort, city .. bored, move on .. laugh.png

At least the truck you can buy in your own name :)

Ok you might need an address to register with immigration and for your driving licence / car registration, but just register anywhere and get a PO BOX for mail ...

  4. There was another accident on Monday evening in this same area. Some young westerner on a crotch rocket, took off way too fast in a very busy area, as that's where the outdoor market is on Monday. He hit an old Thai woman walking cross Rawai Muay Thai road and killed her.

I was told today the victim was an elderly Thai male. Who knows ...

The foreigner on the big bike was also hurt badly they say ...

  5. The breaking noise and crash / bang could be heard past the Rawai temple on the Naiharn side!

The Soi Salika roadsign and some other signs, Ganesha Yoga, etc were all knocked over by the car.

This was after they had pulled the car back out of the ditch.

  6. I'm looking for the same.

I don't think the ADAC offers insurance for Germany?

On their website, FAQs they state:

"Der ADAC Auslands-Krankenschutz schützt Sie auf der ganzen Welt mit Ausnahme Deutschlands und des Landes, in dem Sie Ihren ständigen Wohnsitz haben."

Meaning that the ADAC travel insurance is valid worldwide except in Germany and except in the country where you usually reside.

Last year I had travel insurance for a trip to Germany from LMG Pacific, I can not recommend this travel insurance. Firstly you have to pay every bill first, later they find reasons not to pay. Also their emergency assistance hotline was completely useless and not helpful, even though I can speak Thai.

Who can recommend a better company?

  7. Get someone from home to buy a new one and fedex/ups/dhl or otherwise express courier it here as to not lose more training time.

Next time pack important items that can't easily be replaced in hand luggage.

Keep receipts for travel insurance and airline claim.

  8. My wallet was stolen out of my purse at Big C today. Several security staff said it happens a lot and just 2 days ago there were two other cases of theft.

Watch your stuff at Big C ....

  9. I've been in the same house in Rawai for almost seven years, too. I agree, It's not nearly as nice as it was, mainly because of the traffic.

I already "moved away" twice now, the first time shipping all my stuff overseas, thinking I won't come back to live here again, but I keep coming back.

  10. At 15 months, that's absolutely not necessary to give a baby any junk food (sometimes hard to avoid when they are older and see friends eat it though). Mothers in Thailand are given a pink book during pregnancy where all data about the baby gets written in and it's got information like height charts, weight charts and also a lot of nutrition information, example foods and quantities.

Did she get that? It's all written in Thai.

  11. Game shop at Central Phuket is selling the Wii U Deluxe Set 32 GB for 20,000 THB, a bit unreasonable. They said it was a Japanese one, but there was no Japanese text anywhere on the box.

Sandman77 is right, amazon Germany will ship the Wii U to Thailand, which surprised me! Previously I could only order books to Thailand but no electronics.

I just tested it and they would ship it! The price right now 306,23 EUR (12,384 THB) including shipping for the same Wii U Deluxe set 32 GB.

20,000 THB would be 494.57 EUR!

  12. With 2 out of 5 planned nuclear power plants being in the south of Thailand (Sichon, Nakhorn Sri Thammarat and Tha Chana district in Surat Thani), this power outage might win over some people who were unsure whether to approve of those plants. "remember those serious power outages, we need sufficient power for tourism".

On the other hand, it should concern people. If a problem like this can not be dealt with faster, what would happen in the event of difficulties with a nuclear plant ...

  13. Anger and volatile temper could be caused by hormonal imbalance, PMS. If you notice it being worse the week before her menstruation every month, that could be it. Another indication for this, is she also more impatient than usual with your daughter around the same time? In that case, don't take any anger outbursts personal, don't fight back, don't get drawn into arguments, ignore any comments and nagging, just don't reply anything, leave her alone, don't irritate her and try to avoid anything she usually hates (coming home late, any noise or light that stops mother and baby from sleeping) as to not give any reason for anger. If you can't avoid those things, try to get out of the way.

Good nutrition, sun (direct sunlight without sunscreen or windows) and exercise help with depression, PMS and general well-being, so you could help by making sure healthy food is always within easy reach of your wife and child, help to play with and look after your child so your wife can go to the gym or outside for walks or any exercise for an hour a day.

  14. Same at Honda Phuket for the new CRV. I need a car like right now, can't order the old model, wait until April for the new model.

Worse, you can't even rely on their promised delivery date. I spoke to my rental car lady this morning and she had ordered some cars from Honda, the promised month has passed and they were told to wait one more month, now one more ...

  15. Great thread, I have been in the same situation as the OP, however I do have an Australian TFN, so I get the full interest on my AUD, also have the majority of AUD outside of Australia now.

Due to lack of residency visa, I can't see myself living in Australia and needing to spend AUD in the future, I hold them for the interest rate only.

I am also completely undecided how much AUD to convert to THB now if any. I am down to my last 1.5 Mio THB here in the country and I manage to spend this rather quickly just by living, renting, shopping and maybe buying a car cause I sold my Evo earlier this year.

The interest from my AUD is also my only source of income, as well as helping to hedge against inflation, although I feel that inflation is much higher than the interst on my AUD, so I am quite stressed out about not having anything that performs better.

I am also relatively young with 35, so I have many years to cover for myself and a serious need to invest in something safer than paper currency for the sake of my little sons future or if something happens to me.

After being self employed (online) for many years I also can't see myself working anymore. Call it burn out or I am just lazy now.

I have had a lot to write off during my last 6 years in Thailand, I have not had any prior experience with anything brick and mortar and I also don't like the lack of flexibility with bricks (meaning any kind of property for personal use or business). I wasted a couple Million of THB due to this and being only minority owner of a Thai company.

The land ownership problem has been giving me so many headaches, I wasted huge sums on rent.

What VIBE posted about his investments sounds great to me, I would like to know his strategy for land ownership?

I am completely at a loss about what to do. I will probably always have some involvement with Thailand as my son has a Thai passport, I have a long term visa, I speak the language, etc ..

I would like to own land but can't, and I have seen the prices of land in my area double over the past 6 years, not much is available anymore, the area is getting too built up and busy, traffic gets worse, noise from bars.

I could only buy land in my sons name, but it would be very long term (15-20) years until I could sell any of it. This makes is very hard to decide on a location.

I am trying to scout other areas to live in where land is still cheaper, but whereever I go, I just don't like any other area as much as here (Naiharn, Phuket) although it is getting worse now.

I have been thinking about condos recently, but only because I can own it in my name. Apart from that I hate it, I wouldn't want to live in one (mainly because the layout is never spacious enough for my taste), and I would much prefer land. I could rent out a condo but would also constantly be anxious about fees, repairs, bad tenants, bad building management, ruined views by new developments next door and so on ..

So in summary, I have no idea where to go, what to do, what investment, what business, I am in a hotel now, paying by the week, trying to work it out.

Most might say I am lucky, having all the choices and money but ... anyway ...
