  1. It should be made clear that if foreign investors were to partake in the fundamentals of leasing and non leasing within Thailand then the benefits woul be less than benevolant for those wishing to seek investmant long term.

  2. Sounds like there are 2 different species: the small millipedes inside are a nuisance, but basically harmless.

The centipedes in the garden would be my priority: their bite is nasty and painful. The larger ones you may grill and eat the tender meat inside, so I heard. :o

Burning them attracts others. I have been doing my own research on the pesky buggars recently.

Centipedes are the dark round slow ones that curl up when you threaten them, these are harmless.

Millipedes. The flatter brownie colored ones with orangie legs that move FAST are bad news. They can grow up to 12 inches in length (don’t know if they know decimal?) anyway those are the guys you definitely want to stay away from.

Wrong wrong wrong - you should not be posting incorrect information on a public forum.

Centipedes are the flat, brown and potentially deadly ones.

Millipedes are mostly harmless, cylindrical and curl up when disturbed.

  3. My daughter is currently in Darwin, Australia but coming to Thailand soon, travelling on a budget and interested in doing some relief work in the tsunami areas where they are rebuilding.

She says there are unpaid jobs for foreigners which supply basic free accommodation which would be fine for her. She would be saving money and helping people.

I was aware there were positions like this available a year ago but is there anything now and does anybody have a contact number or website?

  4. I have just discovered after six years of coming to Thailand (6 months on and 6 off), 12Call Freedom Plus, so for two years I have been wasting a lot of cash when all I had to do was make a cheap 5 minute phone call and considerably lengthen the life of my callcard.

I may be a little behind in having not known this before but if not then I would like to share this info and halp others save money.

  5. I am seeing a lot of these critters these days and was recently told by a Thai neighbour that I am wrong to catch and release them outside and that I should kill them (centipedes) as their bite can kill babies and small children and is worse than a scorpion sting. I have heard similar about the millipede of which I saw one this morning dringing from a small puddle of water in my bathroom. My neighbour also said they are very difficult to kill and re-generate??? Also that I should under no circumstances burn them because the smell will alert other centipedes in the area and attract them, a trait I was told as a child was apparent in wasps.

    Is any of this true?

  6. Hi Malw71

My house just outside of Surin will be finished in about a month (Going out on 11th to 30th). I know landlines are in evidence in my part of the countryside and a member of my newly aquired 'family' is also on the 'interweb'!!! I will be checking same issues out as you when i'm there. I think a slow broadband service may be available, from info gleened from prev comments (I'm a newbie like you) CHECK with 'lampshade' at your new local in town ('Ferrang Connection' web site !

    Cheers DTD. :o

P.S. I used to live in Sutton.

  7. I have a house in a village in Surin about 2 hours from Buriram main town area. I want a land line as I would like to use my laptop computer for internet accesss when i am there. I could do with some info.

Do they have them in such remote areas.

    Cost for set up

    Cost of calls

    ISP's

    Cheers

  8. I must spread this news. A lady told me a while back that to stop the itching from a mozzie bite you simply make an X with one of your fingernails directly onto the bite.

I tried it yesterday and it worked a treat, no miserable scratching for hours, after 10 mins I didn't even know it was there.

    Spread the word!

  9. I'm doing a visa run to Ranong from Hua Hin and last time, some years back, I remember a sheet of paper with boxes to tick applying to a 1/2/3/month stay.

Does this mean I have a choice and is it the same price?

I though that anything over 1 month had to be pre arranged before entering the country. I was told today that I should have visited the consulate in Paris.

    So why the multiple choice?

  10. I've never been to a scholl but I know many guys who have.

The best guys by far are those who studied at Unity or the older Union(sathorn). I know one guy who was speaking the same as me(which isn't great but good enough in most situations). he had studied for 3 months full-time, I had been learningkid of) for 10 years!

  11. From this year I will be spending several months at a time in Thailand and in 2 years will be moving there to live full-time.

It really doesn't matter I what type of Visa I get the first trip and I may in fact just get a tourist visa. The second trip however I need to have a Non-Imm visa so that I can start gearing up to a semi-retirement there. (getting a place to stay and a motorcycle etc.)

I have been to Thailand a few times in the past and love it enough to drop out here and at 38 I am financially solvent.

I plan on depositing about 4,300,000 bht when I arrive.

As I a student finishing a MA in teaching English as a Foriegn Language it begs some questions

    What visa should I get?

Which bank should I use? Farmers/Siam Commercial etc..

Should I deposit less to begin and will my apartments value count as funds in country?

    Cheers

    M
