You go ahead and have that printed on a t-shirt (recommend both Thai & English) then get into the thick of the protests. Make sure you are VERY active, VERY vocal. Let us know how that works out for you.
Nah buddy, you go ahead and prove your contrary point, that is, if you have one.

Where is it in the Thai 'constitution as pertaining to foreigners.'?
QuoteSection 44
A person shall enjoy the liberty to assemble peacefully and without arms.
And no, it does not define "a person" as "a Thai national".

Don't let me stop you on your way there, if Afghanistan is a country you personally care about.

Peaceful assembly is not "political involvement" but a basic human right.

A country is not someone's house. If you cannot grasp this fairly obvious difference, perhaps it's a bit early to comment on this topic.

Amazon is not cheap or unreliable by any means. If they are hosted there, still say they are under maintenance, it only means one thing. They got hacked.
It is possible to have the most reliable servers in the world and still build a crappy system.

I have a brand new Nano Ledger wallet I never used, because I'm actually afraid to use it, always left my coins on the exchange. I never opened the box, it's still factory sealed.
That's a bit like storing cash in a house of a person you barely know vs keeping it in a safe box installed in your own bedroom. Learn to use it, it's not that hard, and if you bought from a trusted source, completely safe.

I took some EVX out today and by my estimation the fee is around 1% only. Are you sure?
Yes. The rate displayed on your balance page is 13.31, while on the withdraw page it's 12.9 (not displayed directly, just enter 1000 in the Amount field). I'm seeing about 3% spread right now.
-
This Everex is a funny thing. The claim is no fees and they show you a rate of 13.35 THB for EVX, their own coin. But when you cash out to a bank account, the rate is 12.9 THB all of a sudden. Nowhere else you see this number, and no, it's not due to price volatility, just a nicely hidden spread I guess.
Bottom line, with Everex you lose 3.5 THB on every 100 THB withdrawn, a.k.a 3.5% hidden fee.
BX, you will be missed.

Maybe immigration rules and hoops are everything for you. I'd hazard a guess it's different for most other people.
QuoteThey have announced that its going to be made and possible to do online. I guess we just have to give them some time,
Yep. It's only been 40 years since the regulation has been passed and I'm sure the tech will catch up real soon.

Happens. It’s Thailand.
Not fair to blame your personal lack of research on the country. A proper school in Sukhumvit area with good teachers and full visa support is 40-45K baht for a 9 month course. Visa mill schools fees are normally 15-20K baht for the same duration.

But the authorities have made it quite clear, and are now enforcing the rules to ensure, that living in Thailand on back to back tourist visas is not accepted.
I’m betting my top baht you cannot cite those rules.- 6

Rather stretching the idea of tourists - the consular officials almost certainly thought that they were living in Thailand on tourist visas.
Living as in having access to social security, health insurance and other rights? Good job then getting rid of that potential burden on Thai society! That’ll show them freeloading western immigrants.
Did they also get to keep the visa fee?- 13

Just saying. I am paranoid about fake stories myself, but for whatever reason, at first look, the way it's worded, I don't think it's bulls#it.
The post has been removed now, which attests to its authenticity, I guess.

Fresh from the oven at Savannakhet today.
So there was an officer at the embassy that asked him about TM30 and then checked it against his application. Same officer that was also very up to speed on what kind of visa you need to open a bank account and immediately asked him for a bribe. Wow, I'm positively impressed. This might be fresh but it is not coming from the oven.
I understand the current regulations leave a lot to be desired and are changing every day but there's also an increasing amount of FUD coming out of these ovens for some reason. Let's not spread it.

Nope, the tightening is only regarding the ones that got away with not showing real proof of income before. The rules have always been there since sometime in the 1970s and only been rasied a little during that time. What happened now is that they want real proof of income, and in my opinon that is because to many faked their income letters earlier.
Ragarding other types of visas, there are the ones that are labled "tourist" visas, which actually speaks for itself. They have always been there dor the purpose to visit a country, and not be used for living in a foreign country. here it is getting cleaned up too, out of the simple reason that to many persons have been using them for the wrong purpose.
Ok, no doubt the laws from half a century ago,
predating the invention of internet, instant wire
transfers, credit cards and international travel boom are still making tons of sense, are super-easy to follow to the letter and will stay relevant for the next century or so.
I‘d like to hear some more on that claim about “too many” persons “abusing” the visa system. How many is too many and for whom?- 4

You missed something very important. If you actually have the required income, you do not have to jump trough any hoops. Those "hoops" are just for the one trying to find a way to stay on fake grounds.
I thought you knew the requirements. They are 400/800 for extension based on marriage/retirement or 40/65 if chosing the monthly deal.
You only have to navigate to the front page to see people having trouble with Transferwise for example. It’s not like they’re transferring Monopoly money. And your 400k is as good as banknote photocopies if it’s been in the bank for less than two months. So no point in trying to convince anyone here that complying with official regulations is a walk in a park.- 6

And how much would that requirement be?
Nope, if you have the required income, then there are ways to cerify that, and emassy isn´t necessary
Yeah, easy peasy, there’s a new thread every single day about people jumping through numerous hoops to prove that they’re not begging on the streets to make a living here.- 6

Was this peculiar scene happening in front of the immigration counter, for everyone else, including his fellow immigration officers and other tourists, to see and hear?

I can only say that as of last week there was no awareness of any new rules at my BKK school. A couple more things regarding your initial post:
6 hours ago, SuperTed said:My school was informed orally that there would be no visas beyond 16 months of study.
No more visas for studying Thai language or no more ED visas at all?
6 hours ago, SuperTed said:Furthermore, you must exit the country for each new visa;
Been like that for years.

TM30 is not a confirmation of accomodation in any way and embassies have never been interested in seeing your cash as they need hard copy evidence to attach to the rest of the paperwork.

Pretty sure there’s a confusion of visas and visas extensions. Currently there is no 4 or 6 months visas, you get your initial 3 months visa and extend every 2 months afterwards.
