Thank you. I am in Khlong Yai now and will head to Trat in the morning.
It was pure misery getting from the border to Khlong Yai. No problem going in the other direction. 20 baht on the songthaew, 40 baht in the minivan. Coming in this direction they forced me to pay 200 baht on a songthaew and refused to allow me to share with a Thai person. Said I could wait until infinity. There were half a dozen of them yelling at me to walk and insulting me. Very intimidating. LOS? I think not!

11 months of winter and a month of bad sledding.

Can you give me anymore information about this King Kaew area? Side of the road? Shopping mall? Transport hub? I noticed that from the Suvarnabhumi Transportation Centre there were shared minivans or local buses that went to King Kaew. Can I assume they also go in the opposite direction to Suvarnabhumi? I won't be in a hurry.
Besides having bad experiences with the taxi/tuktuk mafia, with the present air quality crisis in Bangkok the responsible thing would be to use public transportation when available.
I am still hoping someone knows about the Trat departures directly to Suvarnabhumi.
Thank you.

I do know that there is one bus from the Transport Company in Chanthaburi at noon that stops at Suvarnabhumi. Others do not.
I did see maybe two daily departures at the Trat bus terminal to Suvarnabhumi but do not remember the bus company nor the times. This is what I am looking for. I don't want to go to Ekamai then back again.
Thanks again.

Does anyone have information on bus times from Trat to Suvarnabhumi?
Alternatively, Chanthaburi to Suvarnabhumi?
Thanks for any help!

When we were travelling east from Suvarnabhumi my friend pointed out a bunch of black smoke belching plants which he identified as coal burning plants.
I have learned that he is often mistaken so thought I would ask the the informed members on TV.

I have a question. What source powers Bangkok?
A friend told me it is coal.
Thanks for any information.

Well said Sunnyboy2018! I have always believed and done the same. Travel as long and as often as you are able.
No one is mentioning the retired folks who travel long term. These are the people who have the time and the cash to do so.
12 hours was only one of my three flights, plus two half days of road travel before beginning the air travel.
Sorry Kammie that everyone keeps referring to you with male pronouns.

How rude! I am a legitimate tourist here for 4 months, too. I would not spend 4 days travelling to get here to stay only two weeks. I meet many travellers who are away from their home country for a year. We are not trying to live in Thailand. There are neighbouring countries to visit as well.

A few years ago when stamping out at Had Lek the IO flipped through my passport looking annoyed. He did stamp me out without trying to extort $ but threw my passport back at me. He had thrown the previous person's passport at them as well. It is hard enough with the corruption on the Cambodian side. Now this? I do not do "in/out", instead staying in the neighbouring country for 30 days. I am a legitimate tourist just trying to escape winter. Now I feel totally stressed.

So, should I just show up at immigration and hope for the best? With or without the completed TM-30?
-
Well, finally something that makes sense.
They offer a good monthly rate and last year I think they were busted for charging double, or more, the legal rate for power and water.
Thanks again.

Yes, I believe so. There is small Thai script at the top left of the form and the owner did say TM-30 I think. She was supposed to call immigration but I have not heard back.
Thanks.

I am hoping to extend my 30 day tourist visa at Chanthaburi, the closest immigration office to where I am staying. Recently a couple with 60 day visas they obtained in their home country went there for just such a renewal and luckily had an employee from the hotel where we are staying because along with the other required documents the employee had to complete a very detailed, lengthy form for the hotel and signed in the presence of immigration officials. I got a copy of this form (it is unclear as to whether it came from the hotel or from immigration) and asked the hotel manager to complete it for me but instead she sent me to their sister hotel where the owner has a better command of English. She told me that she would have to accompany me to immigration but is very busy. This round trip plus time at immigration would take at least three hours. The whole ordeal seems improbable as if this were truly the case how many people would actually get their visas extended? With thousands of hotels in Bangkok I cannot imagine this would be achievable. Or would this rule vary from city to city?
Thanks for any help.

Thank you all who responded. This was my first time applying for an SETV (and my first time ever parting with my passport!). I had concerns that the TR meant Transit, so special thanks for the clarification. I read a post recently where someone was issued a transit visa which was not what he wanted.
With all the explanations I am feeling confident this visa is indeed legitimate. I do hope this helps others who want to apply here in Kampot. Anny Tours and Travel by the old market. BUT Anny has to be there. I had to provide my airline ticket and one photo but was not asked for a bank statement. It took 5 or 6 days because it went from here to Sihanoukville then on to PP and same in reverse.
As I said, I went to at least 12 other places and they still charge between $55 & $60. Where is the money going? Do they really not know the fee was waived and it is kept by the Thai Consulate? Courier? Agent?
What is Mottah, finny? Is it another place in Kampot?

I got my passport back yesterday with the Thai visa attached. I don't see anywhere on the visa that it says 60 days. It does say "tourist" under type of visa. Under category it has "TR". I have no idea what this means. I do hope all goes well when I cross the border next week.

This took an amazing amount of perseverance and patience. I found ANNY TRAVEL here in Kampot which I am told by the owner Ana that it is the same as Ana Travel in Sihanoukville. I went to 12 travel agents before finding her. I was given the $15 price that you mentioned, Richard, but that was after she made two phone calls which makes me wonder. I returned the next day, then the next and next, sometimes going twice a day, because the staff is unable to perform visa services. I was almost ready to give up but about day 7, there she was! Paperwork was done yesterday and I do feel a little nervous. I will post again when I have the visa.

Does anyone have a recent experience (since the fee waiver) obtaining an SETV in Sihanoukville?
I am in Kampot and am surprised that many places now offer visa services. But they continue to charge $60 or won't deal with Thai visas.
Thanks.

Thanks everyone for your input. I have heard good things about Anna Travel. I was really interested in what is currently being charged for the SETV since the fee waiver. I should probably ask on a new thread. This is about Phnom Penh.
Thank you.

Thank you for the information.
Does anyone have a recent experience obtaining a SETV in Sihanoukville?

Could you please tell me which city/travel agent you got the visa in? I am currently in Kampot and many places offer visa services but either will not do Thai Visas or charge $57 - $60. They claim they have no knowledge of the visa fee waiver. Humm. For many Cambodians this amount is a monthly wage.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you, Steven for your quick reply. It is appreciated.

I am Canadian with a 30 day "visa free" stamp. Under the new free SETV rule am I able to renew my tourist visa for 30 more days without having to pay the 1900 baht?
I have read this site for years but have never posted. I have to say Ubon Joe has always been so helpful and professional in all of his advice. Thank you!
Please inform me if I should have started a new topic rather than post my question here.
Thanks.
Hotels and beaches around Chanthaburi, trat, Rayong
in Eastern Thailand

Had Chao Lao is a long, flat beach in Chanthaburi province. It is usually calm and clear and safe for swimming although I have been there when the entire beach fills with washed up garbage. Accommodation is available in all price ranges from 200 baht to 2,000 baht per night. I think more than 100 resorts there.
