  1. Windows 6 must be a typo?

That is the most common security check now and agree the letters sometimes can not be deciphered by the human mind (supposed to make it hard for computers) but if you answer wrong there will be a new set and eventually you may get lucky.

It was Win 7, not 6!!

  2. I have just installed Windows 6 but when I came to log into Gmail I was presented with a mixed up file and asked ti type in the letters but it was impossible to work out what they are. Obviously some sort of security system but what a moronic idea!!

  3. I have for the last ten ears or so used Bangkok as my software source. The last product I bought was Delphi version 7.

I was a programmer om Australia, Delphi, C,C++ and half a dozen other languages. I brought my IBM taptop with me when I came to Thailand with D7 of course. I have maybe 1000 lines of pascal source but after formatting the drive and installing Windows SE I found I could not install Delphi!!

I bought the last one from Pantip Plaza in BKK but I cannot think of an excuse to go down to get a new copy.

So if anyone is coming North(Chiang Mai or Pai) I would be most grateful,

    Thanks,

    Colin in Pai

  4. Well We went to Thapai gate but could not find any of the travel agents suggested here, not one!!

We found a place called 'STA travel and they could do OZ and back for 7200 baht each with Singapore Air and that was the best price we found but they could not do the dates we wanted.. so it looks like a quick trip to BKK is called for, at lreast we now have a price to bargain with....

  5. We went down to KK a couple of weeks ago, the day trip is nice even though it takes12 hours and the same back, plenty of stops at each bus station on the way through. Next time we will take the car, the ticket cost should cover the diesel the saving will be time.

    Have a good trip,

    Colin

  6. Monty is correct....unless you have a spare SATA power connector hanging off your PSU. Also you're going to want to find a 2,5" -> 3,5" adapter unless you're ok with the drive hanging around in your case. Double sided tape can work in a pinch however.

Thanks everyone, what I want to do is double my HD capacity using the SATA drive from the laptop, I think I will go to a hardware man and ask his advice. The cable looks like what I want. I am using linux but considering going backwards to Windows as I want to use Delphi and it needs Windows.to compile...

  7. I have a desktop with a SATA drive. I also have a laptop into which I installed a new SATA drive, so I have a working drive but how do I connect it into the desktop. do I buy some cables and simply hook them together.....

    Any help appreciated

  8. Thank you UpToYou, at least someone has a sensible answer, the clown who suggested I find a new one has no idea how difficult it was to find the first one, I ended up getting it sent from (Mozilla). The book is /The Great Game'by Peter Hopkirk, a fascinating story of the battle for control of the middle East in the 17th & 18th Century.

    Thanks,

We watch BBC and Aljazeera home in Pai but I cannot find a company in CM who can supply, some Australian channels would be nice

  11. Yesterday I bought a 500 gig drive, installed Ubuntu and away it went!!

I kept the old 160 gig drive for my desktop so it its just a matter of fiddling to get it to work...

The ACER uses SATA drives so no problem....

    Colin

  12. I have an ACER laptop and it is running out of disk space. Can I buy another drive and just get it installed?

I am running Linux (Ubuntu 9.10, I just want to add a new drive, maybe one terabyte??)

Can I just buy a drive and take it to say Pantip Plaza and get it installed/

    Any advice appreciated...
