  2. I think that i know better than Reuters about this news. As Finance Minister Predee Daochai has submitted his resignation because of the appointment government officials, level C 10 (Director-General), the purposed that Mr. Prasong Poonthanet, Permanent Secretary of Finance has signed and proposed to the Cabinet on 30 August 2020.

On the day of the cabinet meeting. the Finance minister want Mr. Waron Saengsanit, Director-General of the Fiscal Policy Office to serve as Director-General of the Excise Department but Mr. Santi Promphat, Deputy Finance Minister did not agree with him. He want Mr. Prapas Kong-ied, the director of the State Enterprise, moved to the Director-General of the Excise Department. So, this is the problems that a newcomer like Mr. Predee, who is not a career politician, would face working in representative government.

Anyway, i recommend you read Thailand news article from ThaiPBSworld.com or NationThailand.com for the correct information.

  3. Fact check : Former police and military officers – classmates of Thaksin Shinawatra from Class 10 of the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School apply to be Pheu Thai members. Including to the former police chief Pol General Priewpan Damapong, a former brother-in-law Thaksin Shinawatra. This party did not fear criticism that another member of Thaksin’s family joined Pheu Thai.

I don't think many people would disagree that prior Thai politics is a shambles, and I can even understand an argument for a coup, BUT, they had what 5-6 years to sort out free elections and make things right, and what did they do ? Change the army into a political party, rig the assembly by pre-appointing 1/3 of it, have a dubious election that needed on 25% of the vote for total power, ban other political gatherings, dissolve the opposition.

Coups can lead to good change, but if the army stays in any form it is a dictatorship

I think that the words "change the army into the political party" is incorrect statement because the Palang Pracha Rath (PPRP) is made up of various liberal, socially conservative, and ultra-nationalist factions. It is supported by thai people. Above of all, there are hundreds of political parties in Thailand from the past to the present that involved with the Thai armed forces. However, there are many retired soldier in the opposition parties for now.

And may I ask where exactly the first trillion has gone?

Has any of you seen any massive infrastructure works, any money handed to those in need, anything that would confirm that 1 trillion baht (more than 30 billion dollars) has been spent recently?

Or has this money been swallowed in a black hole...of corruption?

You know what ? We are in a golden age of infratructure in Thailand. Anyway, i would like to thank you Thaivisa for covering news in Thailand because i am a member of this webboard almost 15 years.

  6. Santika ( spainish language ) = Beauty of the nature

It's NOT a Spanish word, neither Thai.

    It sounds Indonesian to me.

    R.I.P.

    WHO ARE WE

The name "Santika" was derived from a Spanish word "San-ti-ka" which mean "Beautiful of Nature. Santika pub&restaurant is inspired by nature ,and position it self to be Thailand’s first entertainment outlet that innovatively blends the comfort of nature with the excitement of the Bangkok nightlife.Lastly, Santika has the best vision that goes straight to cath up the customer’s expextation, Which is "The Future of Entertainment."

Hardhats in a condemned unsafe building site.....what a concept.

Policeman gave Hard hat to Prime Minister Abhisit to protect the head from injury such as from falling objects. I think that It's unnecessary. Anyway, It's good to saw him at that place.

  9. Dozens die in night club fire

1/01/2009 at 04:35 AM Fire broke out in a night club in Thong Lor during New Year's celebrations, and police said more than 50 people died.

The fire at the Santika Club in Soi Ekamai occurred shortly after the joyous midnight countdown, according to Pol Lt Gen Viboon Bangthamai, deputy metropolitan police commander.

One way in, no way out

Fireworks lit for the New Year celebration probably torched the facility’s curtain near the roof, he said.

TV Channel 7 confirmed that foreigners were among the dead in the popular club, which consistently attracts a crowd of Thais and visitors.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control at about 2 a.m. and retrieved most of the bodies, he said. Fifty-three people were found dead in the club and two died at hospitals

Deaths apparently came from direct burns from the flames, from smoke inhalation and from injuries during the stampede to escape from the engulfing fire.

Most of the bodies were found in the club's basement. Police said the hi-so club had only one door for entry and exit.

Rescue workers placed the bodies in white shrouds, in rows in the club's parking lot for possible identification and removal.

  10. From the Bhumjai Thai Party, Chai-Nat MP Porntiwa Nakasai is the commerce minister. She was an air hostess. Porntiwa said that she is not working alone, but has a team of experts with plenty of experience and expertise in business administration behind her. Another woman in the new Cabinet is Ranongrak Suwanchawee from the Puea Pandin Party, who is the ICT minister. Her husband Pairoj - a veteran politician and executive of the now defunct Thai Rak Thai Party who was banned from politics for five years - sent her and their son to contest the Nakorn Ratchasima seats under the Puea Pandin Party.

    McDonnell Douglas MD-80 series

The MD-80 series is a mid-size, medium-range airliner that was introduced in 1980. The design was second generation of the DC-9 with two rear fuselage-mounted turbofan engines, small, highly efficient wings, and a T-tail. The aircraft has a distinctive 5-abreast seating in coach class. It was a lengthened DC-9-50 with a higher maximum take-off weight (MTOW) and the ability to carry more fuel. The airplane series was designed for frequent, short-haul flights for 130 to 172 passengers depending on plane version and seating arrangement.

The development of MD-80 series began in the 1970s as a growth version of the DC-90 Series 50. Availability of new Pratt & Whitney JT8D higher bypass engines drove early studies including designs known as Series 55, Series 50 (Re-fanned Super Stretch), and Series 60. The design effort focused on the Series 55 in August 1977. With the projected entry into service in 1980, the design was marketed as the "DC-9 Series 80". Swissair launched the Series 80 in October 1977 with an order for 15 plus an option for five.

The Series 80 featured a fuselage 14 feet 3 in ( m) longer than the DC-9-50. The DC-9 wings were redesigned by adding sections at the wing root and tip for a 28% larger wing. The initital Series 80 first flew October 19, 1979.

It entered service in 1980. Originally it was certified as a version of the DC-9, but was changed to MD-80 in July 1983, as a marketing move. New versions of the series were initially the MD-81/82/83 and the shortened MD-87, even though their formal certification was DC-9-81/82 etc. Only the MD-88 was given an "MD" certification, as was later the MD-90.

Thaksin has been under investigation by the Department of Special Investigation ( DSI ) since March of this year at the request of the Securities and Exchange Commission ( SEC ).

DSI investigators, with help from the SEC, traced shares through several firms and found that the Shinawatra family reported its shareholding in SC Asset at 60.82% in its listing filing to the SEC and also in its prospectus when the shares were floated to the public.

But the family did not include its hidden shares held by Overseas Growth Fund and Offshore Dynamic Fund, which were its nominees.

If the stakes held by the two funds were included, the Shinawatra family would own up to 79.87% of SC Asset.

Holding a 79.87% stake means that the family could control the board and the shareholders' meeting even in the case of important issues where up to three-quarters of shareholders' votes who attend the meeting are required.

The DSI will forward the case to the National Counter Corruption Commission later as Thaksin did not report his hidden assets when he was prime minister.

If convicted, Thaksin could face jail of up to two years or a fine of up to 500,000 baht and a fine of another 10,000 baht a day since committing the offences, or both.
