The army does not have the guts to wage war against their people, Burma style. And the moral authority that was there in the past, is gone, baby gone.
Nah. It won't happen. The Thai soldiers, and the families of the soldiers would never tolerate their sons murdering innocent Thais. And the Thai soldiers are not facing the level of desperation the young Burmese are. The poverty here is not as grinding as it is in Burma. I do not think it could be sustained, if the fools started it. Thailand is a very different culture than Burma, on a dozen significant levels. And the youth now, are very different people than they were during past coups, which were violent. Parents would give their sons a choice. If you kill fellow Thais for the murderous officers, you will be disowned by your family.
Everything has changed.
Very naive Mike. That was exactly my logic in 2014 having been in Thailand since '96 and remembering the 2006 coup against Thaksin Shinawatra. Didn't think they'd dare and that everything had changed. I was as wrong then as you are now.

Let's be grown up and honest. Nobody in this forum has any insight other than what is available online. Stay safe and healthy. And stop quibbling.

Yes, I'm trying to get my emphasis across having read the same media as you, plus then going and researching on the professional sites such as The Lancet, BMJ and BHF. It seems the best way to make my meanings clear....does it offend you?
Doesn't offend. But the problem of armchair critics means the noise drowns out the signal.

No fact - there is no UK strain - it is a strain that was discovered in UK which is why the media calls it the UK strain
Is there a reason why you embolden certain words? As you are not a medical professional then I assume you are an armchair critic who has no clue other than reading the Guardian / Daily Mail same as the rest of us?

Just on a point of order...... there is no "Deadly UK strain".
There is a strain of Covid that was discovered here in UK because UK is better at the science. Small but important distinction.
Also, I have been banging on for months about the differences between dying OF Covid and dying WITH Covid.
IMO it's wrong that in UK anyone who dies within 28days of a +ve Covid test is declared as dying OF it - a friend of mine was sent home from hospital with terminal cancer - the docs could do no more for him sadly. Because he was Covid +ve, that was what went on his death cert.
As you said "Just cos you read it on the internet don't make it so."
Also in Surrey, btw
In your opinion? But who are you? A well regarded medical professional? Or just some retired guy from Surrey?

Let's be honest. No one here has any clue other than what they have read elsewhere and are regurgitating. Dave from Eltham - really you don't know. Pete from Southend - you too. You haven't any training or education in this whatsoever.

I remember years ago when the policy was to ask for ID if someone looked underage when buying cigarettes. At the age of 40 plus I was asked for ID at Big C and in turn I showed my white hair and son. Hilarious!

Does the reporter not check their stats? Appalling journalism. Numbers all over the place and contradictory. Like a low ability school child science report.

Has anyone else noticed that Bangkok taxi drivers have been driving much more dangerously over the past months or is it just my bad luck?
All too often after jumping in a cab, the driver floors it for as far as he can go then brakes sharply to avoid hitting vehicles ahead. Once the traffic clears he floors it again and so the process repeats.
What is the reason? Are they going as quick as possible in order to maximise fares and get more customers? I'd rather pay extra and have a relaxing ride than this sort of roller-coaster journey. Plus I actually want to live.

Remember it well. Our salaries doubled overnight as many employees left Thailand unable to pay mortgages back home in the UK so management doubled our salaries hoping we'd stay. I was young, had no mortgage or debt and loved the extra spending power. Only imports were more expensive so local beer and services were relatively half price. Great times!
