Hi All,
As there might be some Vietnamese nationals in this sub-forum I was wondering if anyone has any advice on where to best target and hire Vietnamese speakers for call center work in Bangkok? I run a small call center here and always have trouble finding Vietnamese speaking staff. Apart from posting job ads in places like jobsdb, workventure, etc. does anyone have any advice of ways to target the Vietnamese community locally in Bangkok? Are there any vietnamese community centers or social groups that would be good to approach?
I posted this in the Bangkok forum as well but I have heard stories of big companies, most recently one called Teledirect, that has hired 50 vietnamese call center staff in Bangkok in 3 months. I feel like I'm taking the wrong approach as I can barely hire just a few staff, even though what I offer in terms of pay and benefits is quite reasonable (I think).
Thank you all for any advice!

SCB it's 2 million to another bank, but that can be increased with Head Office approval. I have attached a screenshot of my mobile banking app.
Do check if there are any transfer fees. There may or may not be, and they may or may not be significant.
Don't forget you can withdraw the funds in cash at one bank for free, then walk next door to the next bank and deposit the cash for free.
I have often done that for larger amounts of cash. It saves on transfer fees and there is no delay with the funds being credited to the account.
Thanks. Now the issue I faced today was that you can only do 50k per transfer on the app... to transfer 500k I had to make 10 transactions, so annoying

Sportsman on Soi 13 will be open for the games. I think Miami will be beaten in round 1.
I think so too, dark horse pick :)
Sportsman seems to be the place that usually comes up when asked this question. Are there any options closer to Ekkamai end of the BTS line?

I was going to post in the SME forum but it seems pretty dead so think it may be better to post this question here.
I'm preparing to open a buffet style all you can eat shabu restaurant in Bangkok and am trying to figure out labour costs. Anyone in the restaurant industry or have similar experience hiring that could tell me how much workers salaries are? For example:
1. Monthly salary for full time floor staff (and is it based on 5 or 6 day work week?)
2. Cashier
3. Cook - will just be preparing simple things such as fried items
4. Prep cooks - mainly to prep and cut meat and veggies, refill the buffet style items in the self serve area for customers, etc.
5. Dishwasher
6. If I were to hire one "Manager" level employee how much would he/she need to be paid compared to the regular floor staff?
Any insight would be appreciated! Definitely will hook up the discounts for ThaiVisa members after opening :D

Kasikorn can transfer 3 million a day from online banking on portal
I think you need to go into the branch in person to make larger transfers
For some reason the android app can only do 500k at a time but pc can do 3M
Hmm I called twice, both yesterday and again just now after reading your post but still the answer I got is that 500k is the max even with K-Cyber. They told me that under old policy customers could transfer up to 2 million per day but not anymore.

When I inquired at Citi Centralworld branch last year to open a bank account I was told the minimum balance must be THB 1 million

Can anyone point me in the directions to some bars that will have live NBA playoffs? I can stream from home but I prefer to go out with some buds and catch the games sometimes. Anyone here an NBA fan? Houston has been my favourite team since T-Mac and Yao Ming days, but the underdog I'm rooting for this year is Miami!

No maximum but if the incoming transfer is over US$ 50,000 (or equivalent in another currency) then the Thai bank are required to produce a Foreign Exchange Certificate stating the reason for the transfer.
My wife had to visit her branch to sign the document.
We had asked for the funds to be held on arrival so that we could negotiate the best rate, they emailed us when the transfer arrived, wife went to sign and whilst at the bank called the Bangkok office and managed to get a slightly better rate than published on the Krung Thai website.
KTB have been very good for the two big transfers we made for building works and our contacts at the KTB Bangkok office have even emailed us their new phone numbers when they moved location.
Good to know thanks! I was wondering would you know what the max transfer out to another thai bank is per day at Krungsri? K-bank, SCB, Bangkok Bank all told me there is a 500k limit each day transferring money to another thai bank.

It's easy to burn a few thousand a month without really trying....
Cars
Bikes
Hotels
Flights
Rent
Alcohol
Medical
Restaurants
Visas
Wives/gfs kids etc will accelerate
I've transferred in more than the OP and they never seemed to care what it was used for
As mentioned, transferring it back out would be a much more painful process :)
Transfer out money using bitcoin :) until they start to ban that too

1242 works fine, I just called and spoke to a girl, In English. When you first get through a message in English tells you to select "2" for English service! Then you get perfect English speaking assistance.
I'll try again thanks!

Hi All,
Digging up this topic from the past as I'm wondering if any of the rules have changed since 2014... I'm looking to wire transfer in a large amount between USD $50k - 60k from an offshore bank to my Thai bank account, this may occur more than once in the coming months. Seeking advice if there would be any potential problems or hold up by the Thai banks (most likely K-Bank, Bangkok Bank or SCB) and if there is any maximum?
Thank you all in advance as always!

Their callcenter system is broken since at least 2.5 months (back then i tried to reach somebody in english and it was not possible, they say they connect you with somebody who speaks english, but then you end up with somebody who doesn't, you can repeat this as many times as you want). Back then i even informed them about this...
Not possible to get english speaking customer support on the phone, you have to speak Thai.
So if you can't speak Thai and don't have anybody who can help you your only chance is to go to a shop.
Thanks Jack, I hope the people at the store speak some english...

Hi All,
I'm moving to a new condo in a week and I'm trying to call True to see what is the procedure to install the internet and cable in the new condo. I called the contact number 1242 several times just now but there is no Engish, only Thai voice.. Does anyone know if there is a number for English service?? Or how do I go about this. I have a package with both internet and true visions (although I never ever watch TV... I should really change to a just internet package.)
Any help greatly appreciated!

I used Grab in Udon last weekend. During the day there were cars (albeit only a few, and I used it 3 times on a Sunday between 2-5pm and 2 of the times it was the same girl who picked me up) but after a night out after midnight on Saturday and Friday could not find any. The price is cheap! Uber not operating in Udon as of yet.

Your post makes me worried to order... I will report back once I receive the package. On a side note it takes forever to arrive, 1 month!

Hi All,
I have a question that maybe some of you who are familiar with taxation for expats working in BOI companies could help me on...
From my understanding, for Board of Investment (BOI) companies, expat employees are eligible for a 15% flat income tax rate. My company says that in order to be eligible for this I must have 5 years of experience related to my current job position. Is this true? I have a total of 7 years of working experience, several years in financial services but then changed over to HR related functions of which I now have 4.5 years of experience. I am a HR Manager in my company and responsible for several direct reports (not sure if being in a Managerial position would make a difference) but still they said I am not eligible for the 15% flat rate because I haven't had 5 years of HR related experience yet... can anyone confirm if they've heard of such a rule before?
Thanks in advance!

As you're looking for alternatives: We got a "secured wealth lending facility - overdraft financing" from StanChart Singapore. It wasn't a mortgage per say, but you can use the facility for whatever you want. We simply drew against the facility and transferred the money to Thailand.
Key points:
- You need to be at least a Priority banking client. So that's at least SGD 200,00 of assets with them (approx THB 5mn)
- We borrowed against "qualifying assets" we hold with them. In our case these were initially unit trusts/mutual funds, Blue Chip shares on US and European stock markets and Singapore REITs. They didn't accept ETFs or Investment trusts and not all unit trusts/ shares /REITs qualify. Generally, if they qualify we could borrow 60%-70% of market value of the assets, i.e 60%/70% loan to value (LTV). So if you have say SGD 400,000 of qualifying investments was relatively easy to get a SGD 200,000 borrowing facility against it. (That's only 50% but they like to see a buffer, and I preferred having one - as otherwise if the value of your investments falls you may end up with your LTV being too high and get a call to top up the funds or pay down some of the loan)
- They effectively take a "lien" over your investments so you can't sell them. However, you can ask them to change the assets and pledge different assets/ swap them at any time. So you can then sell them and just replace by others
- You can draw against the facility at any time up to your limit, and pay back at any time. Basically like a secured overdraft
- Cost of financing is Sibor + a few basis points. It works out about 2% at the moment (annualised SGD rate)
- In our case the dividend yield of the investment portfolio is higher than the cost of financing, so the dividends more than cover the interest
Would just add, neither of us are Singaporean, nor live in Singapore. My wife is Thai and we live in Thailand. They don't look at your income level at all, nor the purpose of the borrowing. They simply look at your banking relationship with them, and the value of your investments, then use them as security against the borrowing if they qualify.
Cheers
Fletch :)
Cheers Fletch, I'll definitely look into that thanks!
An update: I called UOB to inquire about local mortgage loan and they said I could only apply for one if I fulfilled 1 of the 3 following criteria:
- have Thai citizenship/nationality
- married to Thai person
- have a child with a Thai person (does not have to be married with this person)
The agent on the phone was apologetic and then he told me he will refer to another loans department where they deal with offshore lending. He said someone from that department will contact me by email or phone directly but still waiting about a week already.
I will probably just end up borrowing from a line of credit in Canada where the interest rate is about 3.2% currently if I remember correctly...

Hi, can anyone confirm or have details of a successful case of getting an offshore mortgage through UOB? I'd like to get a mortgage loan in my own name to buy a condo (looking at places around THB 5 million). I have been in Thailand for approximately 1 year, have a permanent job here and work permit and salary around THB 2 million per year all in. I've tried going to Citibank and SCB so far (just because I have credit cards and regular accounts with them) to inquire about mortgage / loans in general and almost before the words could come out of my mouth I was told "No foreigner cannot". Looking for alternatives at the moment but having done some research online and reading through threads like this it seems that its quite impossible.... someone pointed me the direction of financing firms like MBK but the rates are ridiculous at 10-12%, definitely not going to be doing that.
Any insight would be appreciated, sorry for the long post!

Bringing this topic back from the dead... been googling to find the opening hours for the DLT office in Bang Chak but no luck. Saw an article saying 8:00am-4:30pm but that was dated back in 2010... does anyone know what time it opens? I want to avoid the lines and get in and out as quickly as possible as I finally have a morning off to go and do this.. Thanks in advance!
