I am still curious what the employer letter required for the METV application in the USA should say? Should it say I am on leave? Anyone done this?
Yes It needs to say you are employed but are taking leave in order to travel they just want proof you have a job to go back to and thus unlikely to overstay or need to work in thailand

Quick update just completed my third and final exit and re-entry on my first METV - critically this re-entry was 2 days before my METV expires - flew from phnomh Penh into don muang and stamped through in seconds for another 2 months zero questions asked and a very pleasant process as it has always been for me at DMK

FYI- we've just been denied a multiple entry visa applying in Wellington,New Zealand with a U.K. And N.Z passport. Last three years we've had a multiple with no problems. No explanation was given. Everything submitted fine, money in account etc etc. We come back to work in nz for 2-3 months, then holiday, chill and travel in Thailand for 8. Hopefully this was a one off, and others don't get denied for "no reason"!
Seems a little odd so you paid your non refundable fee had everything in order and they just denied it and didn't give an explanation - did you ask for one ? I would have demanded one.

I think the difference is the term "a prostitute" and engaging in the "act of prostitution" - a prostitute is someone who's main income / profession is selling herself for money... a girl who is an office worker / student / hotel staff etc that occasionally sleeps with someone for gas money / cash / gifts is engaging in the act of prostitution but not a prostitute if that makes sense --- and to that end A lot of women could be said to prostitute themselves to some degree or another in any culture

No most Thai girls are not "flexible" in the sense you use it.If anything Thai girls tend to be rather conservative in sexual morality but most foreigners don't have much experience of that world.
As for the types people like you mix with, I agree there isn't always crystal like clarity. But a useful working rule is that if a girl takes cash ( even a "little assistance") for putting it out, she's a prostitute.Part of the problem in perception is that most foreigners (especially the sex tourist types) tend to be of low social class and low level education. They mix almost entirely with Thais of a similar or even lower level. Thus it's not surprising they often completely misread or misunderstand what ordinary Thais think or feel.
Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile appBy that somewhat pompous definition any girl you have to wine and dine and take to the theatre / movies etc to get into bed is also a prostitute ? There are many girls here from hardened brass that work in bars all day and sell themselves for cash and as the poster said girls that have respectable jobs and see a westerner for extra cash every now and again - to label them all as prostitures is both naive and mysoginsistic

Last week I received my 3th METV, and I'm back in Thailand again. I think one of the first, or the first in this topic, at least when I read back.
Just to let you guys know.
This time I will try to stay 8 months, so 2 months extra on the last 'enter before' date. Still a little bit scared that it will not work, and so I don't dare to buy a flight ticket back before that time.
Good to know - with the here METV you have had are you straight back to backing them i.e. Flying home getting new one and coming straight back or are you staying in your home country for a period of time before re applying ?

You do realise you are talking about prostitutes whistling and cheering ? They, it apparently has to be explained, are not the same as most Thai girls although to be fair many on this thread seem to be labouring under the same delusion.
Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile appYou mean to say those girls in beer bars wearing bikinis and surrounded by red lights are prostitutes !!!

One can get a bit jaded with Thailand once you are here some time it's always nice to see things through the eyes of a newcomer, a friend visited recently and took him to Pattaya - as we were walking past the beer bars all the girls where whistling and cheering - he was looking around bemused "who's all that for" - "that's for us mate" - "I feel like I'm in one direction" ... and that sums it up - Thai girls can make us all feel like a rock star, real or not :)

Hi all I got my first metv today issued from the london embassy absolutley no problems as long as you have all the docs it was a breeze - for the duration of stay I put 4-6 months and showed them a return air ticket for August - thanks for all the advice

Hi I am about to apply for my first METV in about 2 weeks time two quick clarifications please
1) I am ok with a return ticket out of Thailand say in 6 months time - even though I will have to do border runs every two months whilst out there ? I can just show that flight as proof of exit plans every time ?
2) assuming I have all relevant docs how long should visa application to issue process take ?
thanks guys

Does anyone have an example of wording used in an employer letter that was successfully accepted for a METV.

Where will you be applying for the visa? Some embassies and consulates have different requirements than others.
I would apply in UK -London

Hi I'm looking to apply for a METV but I won't have any employment I'm quitting my job to go travelling so won't have a letter showing I'm employed I can easily prove a large amount of funds - 40k plus to show I don't need to work whilst traveling anyone have any experience of applying for METV in these circumstances without an employer letter ? How many employers are gonna give 6 months leave anyway ??
thanks

I would say you will be fine I applied in person in london and pretty sure I showed no evidence of onward travel as long as you have the funds required and you have more than needed - that shows you can afford to leave .. if anything they may send you a note to clarify if you have return travel before approving the visa ... either way please post what happens
