Why cancel the visa, it remains valid until the expiry date... or do you mean permission to stay extension  ?

You can sell the vehicle whilst on a tourist visa.

As soon as one's work permit is cancelled (the org will do it at once when someone leaves), the associated visa gets cancelled automatically. Great to know that it can still be sold while on Tourist visa tough.

  3. Dear folks,

I currently have a B-visa (+work permit) and my wife and daughter both hold Non-O, following my visa. I may need to cancel my B-visa for taking a new job that is outside Thailand. I understand, that will automatically cancel my wife and daughter’s visa too.

Now, I have a bank financed Car here. If I can not sell it right now, can I come back later with a tourist visa and will I still be able to sell my car off?

Or, do I have to sell the car off, before my Non-B visa is cancelled?

    Thanks.

  4. Hi folks,

I currently have a Non-B-visa (+work permit) and my wife and daughter both hold Non-O, following my visa. I may need to cancel my B-visa for taking a new job which is outside Thailand. I understand, that will automatically cancel my wife and daughter’s visa too.

Now, as my daughter goes to an International School (primary school, grade 03) here, is it possible to convert her visa to ED and then for both of us to Non-O as following to her visa.

    Thanks.

  5. A lot of individual sellers are offering alcoholic beverages through Facebook. Claiming that the drinks are imported from Singapore, they offer very lucrative prices.

Is this legal to buy from them? Also, any idea if the products are generally good (genuine)?

    Thanks.

In your first thread on this subject you said that the insurer did offer you a replacement car!  You said...

"...they said they will only cover the repair cost and cant take any responsibility for the replacement car (unless, I agree to take the car which is badly damaged to one of their enlisted garage rather than to the dealer body shop).

It's "quite ridiculous" that you now say it refused you a replacement car.

not at the cost of agreeing to take it to a back street garage!

IRPC and our insurance company didn't cough up for the hire car so we lost more than 50,000 baht. I will say the Ford dealership did a fantastic repair and we are very grateful for the help  but f u c k insurance in Thailand, IRPC one of the biggest Thai companies didn't pay our  hire car bill. <deleted> irpc

I can share your frustration. My insurance company, the market leader of the country who is charging me the most expensive insurance for the last three years refused to arrange a rental for us or help me in negotiating with the condo admin for ensuring a rental. Quite ridiculous!!

Yes it can be repaired. Your car needs a new roof panel. Dont let them try and palm you off with straightening the existing panel as it is impossible to achieve a good result.

Not an easy job, insist on a professional repair shop. Check fit of shut lines and doors when it is finished.

Bear in mind that your local Mazda dealer may farm out the job to some back street garage. Ask who is doing the repair.

Thanks for the helpful pointers Mate!

It was taken directly to Mazda Body & Paint Shop (RMA in Rama III); so, I hope they will not try to improvise any short-cut.

  9. Hi all,

The car was parked in the designated parking lot of a school. The condo construction adjacent to school, dropped a heavy metal pipe from 24th floor and caused the damaged roof and shattered glass. See the Pictures.

The insurance company is recovering the cost of repair from the Condo and the car is immediately sent to Mazda dealer repair house. They said, its a major repair and due to other major repair lined up, we can only expect to get the car back in another 2.5 months (they estimated 1 month for the actual repair work).

    My questions are -

    i. do you guys think, these damages are repairable? I mean, can the car be back to its pre-accident condition?

ii. If not, what option I might have at this stage? Its a 3 year old, bank-financed car. Will a demand for total replacement work in this kind of cases?

    Thanks in advance.

  10. Update: Thanks all for the suggestions. I talked to Viriyah - they said they will only cover the repair cost and cant take any responsibility for the replacement car (unless, I agree to take the car which is badly damaged to one of their enlisted garage rather than to the dealer body shop).

Their suggestion is to talk to the condo people who are at fault; but they cant play the intermediaries for any negotiation.

Quite a frustrating response from one of the insurance market leaders!  ????

  11. @saakura, I doubt its deliberate.

But dont you think, if a school full of children are there besides a construction site, then the condo admin should have proper safety measure put in place. FYI, the district office has already made them stopped the construction work before taking necessary safety measure after yesterday's accident. And it was not the first accident. Similar thing also happened a few months back.

Do you still think, the question mark is unwarranted?

  12. Hi All,

Yesterday my wife went to our daughter’s school to pick her up and parked the car at the designated parking area inside the school. Beside the school a big condo is currently being erected and they dropped a large metal pipe by accident. Luckily no one got hurt but two cars including ours got severely damaged.

My car has a first class insurance with Viriyah. They came over, discussed with the Condo Safety office and took the car to dealer’s place for repair. As it turned out it’s a major repair and the dealer body shop informed me today, the earliest we can expect to get the car back is around Mid April (nearly 3 months).

In presence of the school authority and insurance company, the condo agreed to pay for a rented vehicle for the period our car will be out for repair. It was agreed yesterday, that after every one week, upon submission the rental receipt, they will reimburse the renting cost. I asked them to get a car rented and hand it over to me, but they said, they can only post-pay the rent but can not find a car for me.

Now, I’m a bit confused. As we are looking at a considerable longer time frame, what about if I rent a car and down the line they just refuse to pay. I don’t really have anything written on paper except I guess, Viriyah got them in writing to pay for the repair cost.

Looking for advice who might have similar experience of handling big companies for paying replacement car/cost of damages. How should I proceed to make sure that my damages does not get increased further. I intend to meet them again next week for asking for advance payment; some pointers for argument would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in anticipation.
