  1. Anyone else willing to participate? I do have a number of books and movies to contribute but if no-one else is willing to take part then up to you!

I do, "Endure", this is my favorite topic: good gay books and good gay themed movies.

I'm not at the moment in the right spot to give you the exact name of titles or authors, but I can just recall some that might be of interest:

    BOOKS

"Maurice" (1971) by E. M. Forster; A classic novel, writen in 1930 and published years after Forster's death.

"The Front Runner" (1974)by Patricia N Warren. Another classic, not be be missed.

"Reflections of a Rock Lobster" (1981) by Aaron Fricke; Alyson Books. Aaron F. decided to bring his boyfriend as his date to the prom. When the high school informed that he could not, he filed suit in U.S. District court.

"The Celluloid Closet" (1981) by Vito Russo. A description of the best gay scenes from (or off) mainstream movies.

    MOVIES

"The Love at Siam" (2007); dir. Chookiat Sakveerakul.

"Beautiful Thing" (1995); dir. Hettie McDonald.

"Get Real" (1998); dir. Simon Shore.

"The Wedding Banquet" (1993); dir. Ang Lee.

"The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert" (1994); dir. Stephan Elliot.

Of course, anyone has his own favourites, but this is a selection of gay books and movies with positive views and endings.

  2. I've tried to copy-paste a Thai id for you, but my computer skills are not that good.

The DOB is near the photo, in that line you'll see a figure between 1-31 (the day of the month), followed by two initials in Thai (the month), followed by a figure between 2453 (our 1910) and 2538 (someone of 15 y.o.).

If you cannot read Thai, copy those two initials between the two figures of day and year and ask a Thai friend to translate those initials of the month.

    Good luck!

  3. EL PAIS newspaper has revealed today that a 16 y.o. transexual has been operated in the Plastic Surgery Institute of Barnaclinic by Dr. Ivan Manero in the first days of last December.

The youth had started a hormones and psicological treatment eighteen months ago, when only 14 1/2 years old. She had the full support of her parents.

Under Spanish law people under-18 can only be intervened after the decission of a judge with the advice of a psichiatric team.

Her family had been treating her as a girl for many years, as she requested, although she was born with masculine genitals.

Dr. Manero said that the operation took two hours and six days of convalescence.

  4. This new Portuguese law (a Catholic country!) doesn't grant the same-sex couple the possibility of adoption.

The Kingdom of Spain has granted, from June/2005, full rights to same-sex couples equal to man-woman marriages, including adoption and the name "marriage". More than 25.000 same-sex marriages have been celebrated in Spain, including several with Thai partners.

  5. We all have the right to complain with our own reasons.

Some expats here, mainly brits, would like to live in this country with all the advantages of their own homeland plus all the advantages they enjoy here, but without its disadvantages, this is not possible here or in the UK.

This is a charming country but also a different one.

It is good for everyone to express our disagreement about the many things that can be improved; thais and expats, gays and straights, younger and older are entitled to complain, but at the end of the day we are fairly happy living here and we are grateful to do so.

  7. My late partner and I adopted six children, all boys and all gay, and all hard to place because of their sexuality

I admire you ! My congratulations to you and your late partner for your decission.

Can you elaborate a bit more? What country ? Any problems with authorities? Any bullying at the schools?

What age were they? Were they traumatised by their "christian" parents? Do the old ones contribute to the education of the young ones? Do you know of more gay people that have followed your example?

Do you get any kind of support from gay organitations?

Your information may enlighten or encourage other gay people to follow suit.

  8. I used to work ocassionaly with John Stamford (Spartacus Guide), strange man; I think he died in prison in Belgium.

Then I met several times Pasteur Douzé who founded a Gay Church in Paris; he was found slained in a forest.

I met Pedro Almodovar when he was shooting his first film, which lasted two years due to lack of funds.

Through him I met Antonio Banderas (he's not gay) before he even acted in his first film, Laberinto de Pasiones (Passions Maze), with Pedro.

  9. However, Thai Airways is charging my son the same taxes as me! Everyone knows that in Australia, children below the age of 12 are exempt from the international departure tax. So Thai Airways is collecting the tax from me but they don't have to (pay to) the Australian authorities! This is illegal!

So what can I do? Of course I tried to talk to Thai Airways but as you might have guessed, I didn't get anywhere. Anyone knows if there is a consumer protection board in Australia I can contact?

What you're trying to say is that Thai Airways have charged your son under 12 a "ghost" tax that they are not suppose to pay to the Australian authorities because there's no such departing tax.

Can't you download the specific paragraph of that exception of tax from an Australian goverment office and send it to Thai Airways? It'll benefit others in your case and would make flying to Thailand from Australia a little cheaper for children under-12.

  10. Santika ( spainish language ) = Beauty of the nature

It's NOT a Spanish word, neither Thai.

    It sounds Indonesian to me.

    R.I.P.

Quote from the Santika club website:

"The name "Santika" was derived from a Spanish word "San-ti-ka" which mean "Beautiful of Nature. Santika pub&restaurant is inspired by nature ,and position it self to be Thailand’s first entertainment outlet that innovatively blends the comfort of nature with the excitement of the Bangkok nightlife.Lastly, Santika has the best vision that goes straight to cath up the customer’s expextation, Which is "The Future of Entertainment.""

This discussion seems irrelevant, or not.

If the management of Santika lies about the Spanish origin of the name is an indication of how they have managed the business.

My condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
