  1. what i do respect is that you can live comfortably in your two-bedroom home... but i don't envy you.

Nor would I , living in a plastic house.

But what is really amazing is that the moderators on this sub forum have not recocognised this as a self promotion thread with profit for the OP

GaryA will no doubt chip in again, about his opinions (remotely) about other forum members. Who cares ? :o

  2. I must point out that it wasn't the original post that prompted my response, but one of the subsequent posts.

    Totster :D

    Which one then?

I saw the humour in the OP's post in which he did not seek to denigrate his wife one bit. I agree with her. It was funny until Steve Margarine saw it as racist. Although I do not blame him. The number of racist comments that are allowed to go by on here is amazing :o

  3. But for the long haiul. no, looks are a factor for the initial attraction but being able to hold someones interest & being interested in someone with other social, emotional & sexual abilities is a much better ambition imo, good looks area bonus but they shouldn't be the only thing to look for. :D

Well this is a superficial thread Boo, you must have had some spare time to respond, as do I now :D

My partner, who is Thai, is not a classic beauty. Nor is she from a BG background. She just has wisdom and intelligence that seems to be beyond the average poster on here to recognise.

Sad really. We are 12 years on and 2 kids, and all they want is a talk about is tits and bums :o

  4. No matter what a persons background is, their view is as important than the rest. One does not need to have an education at Chulalongkorn or Oxford in order to form a valid opinion. To dismiss opinions from those not educated to our supposed standards is elitest and IMO wrong.

    Absolutely right Totster :o

My wife is from Issan, and was lucky enough through the efforts of her parents to be very well educated.

And we have an old lady near to us, poor and has never even been to Bangkok, whose wisdom about day to day affairs in life exceeds many of the posters on here.

I think the OP's wife has got it just about right. It is funny how it is expressed that is all, and that is what Shrek meant I am sure.

An example? I was sat reading the Bangkok Post rag a couple of years ago, and the Chairman spotted Khun Thaksin's visage on the front page. A quick "right hand almost karate chop" on the picture and I laughed

  5. Huh, I think you where asking about my Cub?

It's called a Super Cuby and was built using plans from Wag aero in the states. Same as a regular cub with a 160 hp Lycoming pulled by a 82' borer prop, lower fuel+cargo pod, extended cargo compartment, extended gear. sorry no kitchen sink. Big difference is they used a Piper tri-pacer wings ( a bit shorter). Oh, and vortex generators for added lift, but still no room for kitchen sink.

I did think that would be it, but waited for your response. Wag Aero have for years offered every bit for a Cub or Super Cub, and the logical extension was their own plans and a kit. Very nice cgitt, if anything could be called a classic in Light Aviation that is it.

I flew a Super Cub with 180 HP as a glider tug for a while, and a Pawnee with 235 HP (same wings, almost, just upside down) and they are lots of fun.

I hope your importation plans go well

  6. 100 % bang on

    thanks

may follow with Chairman Kungs views on communism, yorkshire pudding, germans, americans, people from bangkok, people from phuket, farang who bad-mouth bar girls, mushy peas, girls from Korat who come over all Hi-So now they have a semi in Huddersfield, and so on.

    Please do!

You have got her onto mushy peas? :o Jeez mine is still in Issan. I tried to introduce her to Italian cuisine in Udon and I ended up eating both portions.

A quick visit afterwards to a 79B Thai buffet and all was well.

I may introduce you to the views of Chairman Pon :D

  7. To Steve margarino, can't be bothered to spell it right,

    I guess your not Angkrit,

This is light hearted humour that shrek posted,

I had a good laugh, cos I see the funny side, lighten up.

I laughed too, especially because Shrek's wife is absolutely right about the UK :o

Just lighten up as suggested. It was surely not meant as a denigration of Thais. There is a lot of that on this forum for certain, far too much from ignorant members, but you have picked the wrong post to argue against

  8. Excellent post Flyer,

I know a girl that lives 200m away. She works in a bar, and it is her job. She talks and jokes to her thai and farang customers, so of course she must be "easy" :o

Complete crap unless you are one of the Pattaya crowd. Her husband picks her up at 11PM, and she is back home.

Its not easy for some of these girls, I am sure even this was not her dream job as a kid

  9. The only reason I can see for such a plea, is that he genuinely and unshakably believed he acted in self-defence, and that, to him, his actions were therefore not murder and attempted murder. Perhaps he has a few rabbits to pull out of the hat when the case goes to trial?

i'm sure he already knows how the trial will end , or how much time he will have to serve before he is quietly let out , which is why he is pleading not guilty.

:o End of story in Thailand, no matter how many want to argue the ins and outs of this.

Two naive Canadians, after drink, in the wrong place at the wrong time. Dont wander over to a developing country for fun and a laugh, and expect the same rules apply. That about sums it up, na?

  10. Without wishing to cast a slight on any of the parties involved here, scenarios like this always beg questions in my mind - such as:

Why the hel_l can't Thais stay out of financial traps?

Because there is no state social security, and desperate times mean desperate measures

Why is it always a kind hearted farang who must come flying to the rescue like Batman?

They are not all kind hearted, they have there own agenda sometimes :o

    Why don't Thais help Thais?

Inside the family, they help each other a lot, this may be the case here too

Do the mothers go so lightly into such impossible debt in the sure knowledge that when worst comes to worst - no problem, she can always offer up

No. My Mother in Law put herself in huge debt to put 3 of her 4 kids through university

attractive daughter No, 1 or 2 as a honey trap, which will surely snag a farang with some handy readies?

Why am I so cynical about these things?

Only you know why you are so cynical about these things :D:D

  11. I saw an interview with him on Al-Jazeera this morning also !

making a fool of himself taking the bait , which is very unpolitician alike

    in my opinion .

He warned the woman interviewer to do her homework better , you guess

it right , questions about the massacre and the garbage corruption .

He was really irritated in the interview , probably forgetting that he now is the face

and the leader of the entire nation .

    Anybody else seen this ?

Was it a repeat of this ?

    http://bravenewfilms.org/blog/28918-101-ea...9-feb-08-part-1

part 2 upper right is where lost the plot, on Youtube also

  12. Nice idea, you will be in the good books! :o

There are basically 2 grades of gold,. The normal jewelry on sale called Thai gold is 96% pure gold. Some of the higher class shops sell what they describe as "Sam Gow" otherwise 99.9% , as pure as you can get.

Both of these are very soft, as gold is, they are therefore not suitable for rings or heavy bracelets requiring a clasp fitting. It is normal then to add a % of alloy to make them stronger. They are then traded as K gold, generally 14k but sometimes 18k,the latter being 80% pure.

It is normal to dip these in a 96% gold solution, a process similar to electro plating to give them the deep yellow colour the Asians like. A reputable shop would normally have these items in a different display cabinet clearly labelled 14 or 18k.The plating is quite durable but will wear off in time.

It is sold by baht , the measure of weight, which is perhaps where you are confused.

Most of the pieces you see in the shops are pre-priced or are hanging together by weight. You will pay over the weight of the gold itself as it has been made up into jewelry.

To be frank though, given the current price of gold, even 20,000B will limit your choice.

  13. Love the pun - "Bloody El Capitan" I presume :D

Actually no, no pun intended :D

    post-27219-1202747496_thumb.jpg

But I suppose if you have seen one holiday snapshot, you've seen them all. :o

@ Nordlys, I still think is a good effort. Crikey I have 1000's worse than that.

  14. Other than that I do not see much to recommend the image. Sorry.

Thats straight and to the point. :D Cruel but fair.

Ok, well I think if the viewpoint had been from the right, and just showed the textures and the cycle it might have been quite artistic. Possibly. A good eye for potential maybe but it just did not quite come off.

Bloody hel_l astral, its a good job Ansel Adams did not ask you. You'd have said "nice mountain but nothing to recommend it" maybe? :o

  15. It may be just how it reproduces on my monitor Vulcan... another thread :D

So I have downloaded both and opened in PS on my calibrated moniter, flicked it over to sRGB

And, well my understanding of split toning is toning one colour in the highlights and one in the shadows. Am I right?.

All I see, is a destaturated looking picture on the right, and the histogram looks more or less like that too.

Its possibly to do with uploading it. Try it on something with more definate highlights and shadows, overdo it on your original, and then save for web?

Unless of course split toning means something else and I am talking complete a**e :o

  16. Its a completely unromantic thing, just paperwork and nothing to worry about.

One of the people on the desks will prepare the paperwork, and then one of the bosses will authorise it. You might be engaged in a bit of idle chat, but that is about it.

It's not like a civil wedding in the west, just a legal process. Not much more to it than if you were registering some land. Relax :o

  17. Well spotted, there are some great textures there :o

I think what wanderer means is that there is no focal point, which is true. My eye jumps around from the poster, to the bicycle to the door.

Its the difference between a good photographic record (it is), telling a story (perhaps the contrast between the scruffy outside and the smart looking interior?) and art (trying to make a point maybe, or the contrast of textures). Perhaps that is what wanderer means?

    Nontheless I like it.
