True. When I saw the headline, I first thought he was probably a murder victim.

I am now sort of dreading checking out the various news sections of the forum. It seems like recently there has been an exponential increase in the number of incidents of various foreign nationals behaving badly, causing a scene or, worse, committing a serious crime.
These incidents might (and probably will) have various negative consequences for all of us foreigners.
Or, am I being paranoid? I hope this is the case 🙂

For those of you that think this if funny, think of it as another nail in the wall for all foreigners being blamed and punished for the tiniest of infractions, it will affect you, so I suggest you stop laughing.
I fully agree. That was the first thing that I had thought.

I would like to watch one of the 2 Champions League quarter final second leg matches of Wednesday night live. Either one of Man City-Real Madrid or Bayern Munich-Arsenal will do, and if the place has only 1 TV/screen, whichever one they will be showing.
Anyway, they both kick off at 2 am Thailand time. They might go to extra time and penalties, and so might last till around 5 am. I am guessing that due to the lateness, my best bet would be a bar or a coffee shop inside a hotel, but I am not sure.
Anyway, does anyone know FOR SURE about a place in central Bangkok (Sukhumvit or Silom would be great) that would certainly be open till that late and of course that would surely show the football?
Please don't advise me to stay at my place and watch the football there, as I sadly don't have the channel that is broadcasting the CL matches 🙂
Thanks in advance.

20.000 Baht is a joke. Should be much more. And a ban of using this airline (and alliances) would be appropriate
Well, it is not so little amount either. That money could have instead gone for several nights of entertainment in Thailand 😉

I am guessing that the water fight thing will start this Friday. In most places anyway. So, if you wanna enjoy an evening out without getting wet (like me myself, who especially dislikes getting water in my ears, which could be quite a problem), make sure to go out either tonight or tomorrow evening or Thursday evening. Or, of course, after next Tuesday. I am all for people enjoying a water fight among themselves for a few days, preferably in designated spots like Khao San. But, I really don't like random water splashing. To be honest, I never really did, even in my twenties.

Those tiny green Mercedes buses from the seventies is something I can definitely say I do not really miss. They felt like rolling death traps. The drivers all seemed high as a kite and who thought they were driving to win in a go-cart race. I think they only charged 3 Baht, but they were a cr*p shoot. Low ceilings, exposed wood on the seats, narrow doorways (with doors that never closed), and you were lucky if you got at least one foot fully onto the stairs when getting on the bus before the driver took off. Even luckier if the driver pulled over at your desired stop. And then you often had to jump off into oncoming traffic while the bus was still in motion. Great though if you wanted to try and strengthen your neck muscles by preventing your head from smashing into a window frame as the driver suddenly swerved to pass another vehicle every 15 seconds. Windows all open, 4-5 loud oscillating fans (usually only 2 were working), and nothing like the smell of that raw diesel belching black smoke out into the Bangkok skyline in the morning. 😊
Haha. So many memories for me from the 90's, regarding the green minibuses. Yes, they were wild 🙂 I mainly stayed in Saphan Kwai those days. I often took the green minibus no 77 to Silom. And, back, late at night. If I remember right, they operated 24 hours back then. They are still present. When I see one, my mind goes back to those days 🙂 Patpong is like a shadow of the Patpong of the 90's so I rarely go there nowadays. When I do, I take the skytrain going there and back. I don't hang around there till late anymore.

Some things are better left in the past and unsaid. Crazy Jack / Shadow Jack definitely did some unsavory things though. Apparently he was also a Vietnam war veteran who lost functionality of his family jewels as a result of a combat injury. If you want to know more about him, some of what he did in his bar is written about on Stickman. Google is your friend. 😊I actually enjoyed the columns of both Trink and Stickman. It has been a long time since I last read Stick. Apparently, he is still writing his column, which has surprised me. I had thought he quit. I will check it out later this week.
The nightlife is just not the same for me now. Sadly. Due to both the various changes in itself over the years and also my age of course. Hangovers used to last half a day or a day maximum. Nowadays, 2-3 days. So, I admire folks who can enjoy nightlife without drinking much. I have never been like that sadly.
One also wonders if Bangkok Post would agree to have a column like Trink's now. I am guessing no.

If I met him, I never realised it. Lots of 'interesting' folk around in those days.
No internet or social media back then (thank God).
As a newbie from the UK, I found his writings entertaining. I never thought of them a gospel or serious.
They were just social gossip.
'Nuff said.
Yeah, man. I really miss the Bangkok of the 90's. It is not just that I was much younger. It is mainly that the social life and the nightlife was so much fun and interesting. Yes, the (lack of or minimal) Internet was a big factor.

Interesting, I didn't know very much about his backstory. Only a little bit about his writing. Below is something that was written about him on his Wikipedia page, sounds a bit conflicted:
Trink was often critical of the city's seamier, sleazier nightlife and always warned foreign men about becoming romantically involved with bar girls, whom he held in low regard.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Trink
Shadow Jack, who seemed pretty close with Trink, was also a pretty, let's say, unusual character. I went in his bar a couple of times. Some pretty bizarre things in there to say the least. I'll leave the sorted details out though.
Come on, man. Don't leave us curious. Some details would be nice. 'Bizarre' can be fun 🙂

Just checked on Twitter/X, to a man/woman, the pro-Hamas, pro-Palestine, pro-Russia, and pro-China accounts are claiming it's a Jewish conspiracy backed by the CIA and Mossad. It's remarkable they had their stories all lined up and waiting to go within minutes of the news breaking. Not to mention the usual whackos like Alex Jones are also claiming it's a Jewish conspiracy.
And, also, there are many people (mostly Russians and pro-Russia people) on social media, almost sure that Ukraine is at least somewhat involved in this horrific attack.
Okay, let us assume that it is totally the work of Isis, and that Putin is convinced so too. But, then, what can he do as revenge? Sadly, not much. Isis doesn't hold any territory in Syria or Iraq anymore. If they still did, Russia would go level that place with heavy and powerful bombs. But, now, there is not much he can do, except to go after the Isis operatives inside Russia, from the info that those four terrorists will have given. By the way, those four sick terrorists must now be wishing they were killed. I think we can all guess the type of treatment they have been getting since getting caught.

BKK and DMK are not that bad. Used to fly out of Kabul, Baghdad and Kuwait City back in the 200’0’s and those earned worst airport ratings everyday.
Man, you were lucky to have made it out of those places alive. Never mind their airports. Lol.
But seriously, I agree that the 2 Bangkok airports are not THAT bad. But, there are several things to improve of course, as many posters mentioned in this thread.

Prison for a year or two. Reparations to her, then back to Europe. Maybe he would prefer the UK where he can commune with some football thugs.
I have a feeling that he won't do any jail time. Or, maybe will do so for only a few weeks these days until trial (IF there will ever be a trial), I mean.
He will most probably get deported soon. Him being from a Western country is sadly likely to give him some preferential treatment as not to be sentenced to jail.
Then again, I could be wrong of course, because this incident has come soon after the other incident that caused a lot of headlines in Thailand.
Time will tell. By the way, maybe some of you will remember. A few weeks ago, in Pattaya, there was a Russian guy who randomly attacked people in the street and in the end punched someone on a motorcycle. I wonder what happened to him afterwards. Sadly, we often don't get followups to some incidents and so, that will most probably stay like a mystery.
But, one thing for sure, all this will sadly make things more difficult for us foreigners in some ways.

All this is very bad for us foreigners. And, the second incident coming only shortly after the first one and being far worse makes things even more worrying.
And, one weird and annoying thing is that these guys are not even teenagers or twenty somethings. They are 50+. They should have known better. Gees.

Yes but what about, for example, anti-LGBT stuff in Muslim majority countries? Write about that, too, man. I am from Turkey. The anti LGBT attitudes have reached new highs under the Islamic dictator Erdoğan. I am so sick and tired of Muslims playing the victim card. Why the heck am I living out of my country?!?!

Fortunately, at Don Meuang, it is not bad. I did Manila-Bangkok a few days ago. Arrived around 10 pm. Took only about 20 minutes to clear the immigration and customs.

I'm always puzzled by these events (accident or suicide?).
I realize that the Thais carefully design their buildings with very low 'guard rails' but anyone who goes out on their verandah can see that for themselves ...
I am guessing that in the majority of these cases, the reason is the low railing. A studio room that I used to rent in Saphan Kwai had a very low railing. I nearly fell once, after losing my balance in the small balcony due to wet floor. I became extra careful after that.

1) As you know, at Bangkok airport, there is Super Rich and its exchange rate is good. Is there a similar place at the Manila Airport? Or should I just exchange only little at the airport and do most of the exchanging at an exchange place in town. By the way, getting pesos in Bangkok versus getting them at Manila airport, are the rates similar? If so, I might get some pesos in Bangkok. So that would save me time at the Manila Airport.
2) Do you know and recommend a hotel at or very near the Manila Airport? I might feel tired so I might opt to stay near the airport first night and then move to a hotel in Makati the next day. I think a rate of not more than 2,000 pesos would be good.
Also, advice on a hotel in Makati would be appreciated. For Makati hotel, my budget would be again the same. Of course, if I can get a decent place for around 1,500 pesos, that would be great 🙂 I don't need a fancy place. Just a room with the usual basic stuff and with its own bathroom of course.
Thanks in advance.

As I've been saying every time this comes up now it's only the 2-5 pm being mentioned. Seems they are going to ignore the midnight to 11 prohibition.
Yep. The 2 pm to 5 pm ban MIGHT go (but if so, it might happen several weeks or even months later), but I am pretty sure that the midnight to 11 am ban is here to stay, at least for many more years, and I also doubt very much that the tax amount on alcoholic drinks will be reduced anytime soon.

I think like this : If someone is aged between 15 and 18 and commits premedidated murder, he or she should be tried as an adult. But of course, he or she should do the time at a children's jail until the age of 18. Again in the case of premedidated murder, if the person is aged between 12 and 15, he or she should be tried as a child but jail sentence should be possible, and of course in that case, the person should be put in a children's prison till the age of 18. For people under 12, I have no idea what should be done.
By the way, what do you think will happen to the Siam Paragon killer? I have a feeling he won't stay in jail, even for a day.

So, Hamas has definitely rejected this offer??
The sad thing is no one knows how many of the hostages are still alive. Several of them have probably died due to Israeli airstrikes or via murder by Hamas and Islamic Jihad. There have been almost no recent videos or even photos of them. One would assume that the terror groups have probably already killed the soldier hostages especially.
Just now, I have seen the post by BkkBrian that there has been an agreement on some sort of deal. Let us see if this materialises.

I have been to Thailand so many times. Initially mostly with a tourist visa but in the past few years only visa exempt. Never been asked a return or forward air ticket by an airline or even by an Immigration officer. But I always have it with me, since I don't live in Thailand anymore but just come for long holidays.

Yes. I was again at Laksi last week. A couple of women were wearing short shorts. I guess apparently short shorts are fine for women but not for men at the Immigration offices. Interesting.

Not good. Personally, I received a negative reaction because I expressed a negative reaction towards such protests. They are just 'fashionable cause' stuff, mixed with a large dose of anti Semitism.
Where the heck were these protesters when the US invaded Iraq? When, for example, Myanmar, Turkey, Iran and several other countries committed human rights abuses against their own citizens?
Of course, this is mostly anti Semitism. I am no fool. It definitely is.
