Russian Woman Dies in Chonburi After Husband Bans Marijuana Use
JemJem replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
You might be right. But, anyway, I have a feeling that this investigation will most probably be wrapped up very soon (maybe it already has been), and the death will be declared a suicide even if the husband killed her. Anyone thinks otherwise? -
Drunken Bar Brawl Leads to Scotsman Being Hit by Car in Pattaya

Or maybe not. Or only very little info. There is a high chance he won't be able to recall any or most of what happened. -
Swedish Tourist in Pattaya Steals Motorcycles, Hits Several Cars

He is probably not on a year long visa. Possibly visa exempt stay (and then an extension and then another visa exempt run or maybe just overstay). -
Israel is at War - General discussion (pt3)
JemJem replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
It is sad that around the world, overall, even in the mainstream media, now there is only very little talk about the hostages held by Hamas (and maybe also by other extremists). Where the heck is the majority of those hostages, is one question to ponder on. I think most people think they are being held in Rafah (in tunnels maybe or in so called safehouses or both), but to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of them have been taken to Egypt (consider the dozens of tunnels between Rafah and the Egyptian side). Also, just how many of the hostages are still alive, is another question. Some were probably killed by Israeli air strikes, some were probably killed in cold blood by terrorists at various times AFTER having been taken to Gaza, and some were killed on October 7 in Israel and then their bodies were taken to Gaza, as the Israelis confirmed for some found bodies already. I have a bad feeling that the no of hostages alive now is a very small number. I hope this is an incorrect feeling. -
British Expat Arrested For Punching and Killing Russian Man
JemJem replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I am guessing probably not that long. Also, I am guessing he will do 2-3 years in Thailand and do the remaining jail time in the UK. I could be wrong of course. -
Thanks, folks. Now, 2 things to be done by me : 1) Choose 1 place among the many that have been mentioned above. 2) Gather the courage to go to that place. Sadly, I am one of those people who keep delaying the visit to the dentist. And, since I haven't done a good job in taking care of my teeth, I am going to have to pay the price (both financially and also I am afraid I might lose some teeth and then require implants, and all the pain and discomfort that come with all this). I really hate myself for this.

Israel is at War - General discussion (pt3)
JemJem replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
The second semifinal of the Eurovision song contest takes place tonight in Malmö, Sweden. Israel is one of the semifinalists of today. A 20-year-old Russian-Israeli woman is representing them. Sadly, she was apparently booed during practice yesterday. So, I unfortunately expect some similar stuff at the semifinal contest today. I have heard that already hundreds of protesters have gathered outside the contest venue. I am guessing that most of them are Muslims living in Sweden, but I could be wrong. Anyway, yes, I think that they have the right to protest, if done peacefully. Yet, I feel that this is ethically wrong. The Eurovision contest should be about music, unity and fun. And, what is the fault of that young singer? She certainly doesnt deserve to be booed. Also, I feel that it was a wrong decision to ban Russia and Belarus from that contest. If I am not wrong, they have been banned since 2 years ago. -
Expect Increase in COVID-19 Cases as School Term Approaches
JemJem replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I have noticed that fewer and fewer Thais are wearing the mask now in Bangkok. In recent days, I have noticed that in the skytrain, only about half the Thais wear the mask. Outdoors, that percentage is maybe 25-30 percent or so. For foreigners, as you probably know, these percentages are a lot less. Now that the Covid cases seem to be on the increase, albeit not a big increase, will we see an increase in mask use again? Time will tell. But, I get the feeling that most people are actually fed up. It has been more than 4 years, man! -
I wasn't sure whether to post it here or in the Bangkok section. Anyway, I really should be going to a dentist soon. Mainly for some gum treatment. Can someone, preferably someone with first hand experience, recommend a dentist/dental clinic in central Bangkok? Somewhere not overpriced (as you know, dental work can really be costly, sometimes unnecessarily too costly) and reliable of course. Language is no big deal, as my Thai is of lower intermediate/intermediate level, although if they speak good English that would be a plus of course. Cheers.

Mass arrests made as US campus protests over Gaza spread
JemJem replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Not good. Personally, I received a negative reaction because I expressed a negative reaction towards such protests. They are just 'fashionable cause' stuff, mixed with a large dose of anti Semitism. Where the heck were these protesters when the US invaded Iraq? When, for example, Myanmar, Turkey, Iran and several other countries committed human rights abuses against their own citizens? Of course, this is mostly anti Semitism. I am no fool. It definitely is.- 169 replies

Dead Burmese man found in water tank of Bangkok condo

True. When I saw the headline, I first thought he was probably a murder victim. -
2 foreign men caught performing oral sex at Bangkok Songkran
JemJem replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
I am now sort of dreading checking out the various news sections of the forum. It seems like recently there has been an exponential increase in the number of incidents of various foreign nationals behaving badly, causing a scene or, worse, committing a serious crime. These incidents might (and probably will) have various negative consequences for all of us foreigners. Or, am I being paranoid? I hope this is the case 🙂 -
Foreigner's Shocking Behavior On Soi 4 Sparks Outrage in Bangkok [videos]

I fully agree. That was the first thing that I had thought. -
I would like to watch one of the 2 Champions League quarter final second leg matches of Wednesday night live. Either one of Man City-Real Madrid or Bayern Munich-Arsenal will do, and if the place has only 1 TV/screen, whichever one they will be showing. Anyway, they both kick off at 2 am Thailand time. They might go to extra time and penalties, and so might last till around 5 am. I am guessing that due to the lateness, my best bet would be a bar or a coffee shop inside a hotel, but I am not sure. Anyway, does anyone know FOR SURE about a place in central Bangkok (Sukhumvit or Silom would be great) that would certainly be open till that late and of course that would surely show the football? Please don't advise me to stay at my place and watch the football there, as I sadly don't have the channel that is broadcasting the CL matches 🙂 Thanks in advance.

Well, it is not so little amount either. That money could have instead gone for several nights of entertainment in Thailand 😉 -
Government Clarifies Songkran Celebration Confusion for Chinese Tourist
JemJem replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I am guessing that the water fight thing will start this Friday. In most places anyway. So, if you wanna enjoy an evening out without getting wet (like me myself, who especially dislikes getting water in my ears, which could be quite a problem), make sure to go out either tonight or tomorrow evening or Thursday evening. Or, of course, after next Tuesday. I am all for people enjoying a water fight among themselves for a few days, preferably in designated spots like Khao San. But, I really don't like random water splashing. To be honest, I never really did, even in my twenties. -
Haha. So many memories for me from the 90's, regarding the green minibuses. Yes, they were wild 🙂 I mainly stayed in Saphan Kwai those days. I often took the green minibus no 77 to Silom. And, back, late at night. If I remember right, they operated 24 hours back then. They are still present. When I see one, my mind goes back to those days 🙂 Patpong is like a shadow of the Patpong of the 90's so I rarely go there nowadays. When I do, I take the skytrain going there and back. I don't hang around there till late anymore.

I actually enjoyed the columns of both Trink and Stickman. It has been a long time since I last read Stick. Apparently, he is still writing his column, which has surprised me. I had thought he quit. I will check it out later this week. The nightlife is just not the same for me now. Sadly. Due to both the various changes in itself over the years and also my age of course. Hangovers used to last half a day or a day maximum. Nowadays, 2-3 days. So, I admire folks who can enjoy nightlife without drinking much. I have never been like that sadly. One also wonders if Bangkok Post would agree to have a column like Trink's now. I am guessing no.
-
Yeah, man. I really miss the Bangkok of the 90's. It is not just that I was much younger. It is mainly that the social life and the nightlife was so much fun and interesting. Yes, the (lack of or minimal) Internet was a big factor.
-
Come on, man. Don't leave us curious. Some details would be nice. 'Bizarre' can be fun 🙂

And, also, there are many people (mostly Russians and pro-Russia people) on social media, almost sure that Ukraine is at least somewhat involved in this horrific attack. Okay, let us assume that it is totally the work of Isis, and that Putin is convinced so too. But, then, what can he do as revenge? Sadly, not much. Isis doesn't hold any territory in Syria or Iraq anymore. If they still did, Russia would go level that place with heavy and powerful bombs. But, now, there is not much he can do, except to go after the Isis operatives inside Russia, from the info that those four terrorists will have given. By the way, those four sick terrorists must now be wishing they were killed. I think we can all guess the type of treatment they have been getting since getting caught.

Russian tourist on Pha-ngan Island accused of kicking Thai pregnant woman
JemJem replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
It is going from bad to worse. All these incidents will sadly surely make things difficult for us foreigners in some ways.
