Anyone seen Mark around town lately?

All these deported expats and others unable to maintain the immigration conditions are going and gone. Central and Big C may not care but the laundry shops, fruit sellers, guesthouses, etc. certainly do.
The best thing to happen would be that Thai is brought to their knees (colonized while we're at it) and have to rewrite immigration laws and attitudes. Philippines -- no visa run for 3 years!

Mark and I have some mutual friends. One who got banged up in an employment scam in the UK. The other is still in Pattaya but won't reveal what he does for a living. I only met Mark twice in a well known breakfast restaurant in central Pattaya and he had trouble written all over his face. Not at all surprised to read Mark is in the monkey house. Bad news is this bloke!

I've returned to my home country after 15 years as a full time Thai expat. I thoroughly enjoy all 4 seasons, even the brutal 6+ months of winter. I see my parents every day. I will return to Asia eventually.
My only gripe are the ladies available to me are the oldest I've ever dated! I don't find them attractive. I left here when I was 30 so all the women I dated were also 30 or younger. Now I only attract ages 45 or more, usually more and I don't like it.

This is a terrific thread. Thanks for starting and maintaining it with new and interesting content.
I lived in Thai for 15 years from the age of 30 (I work online). As I am under 50, I would just get back to back education visas ($1kUSD/year). Like other visas, the goal posts changed frequently. I speak fluent Thai which enabled me to meet your average 9-5 working Thais. The bar girls never entered my life for most of my 15 years. I always figured it would be more fun and easier to meet the majority, than the minority (bar girls).
A few years ago, I began souring on Thai (even with the delicious food and bum gun). What I heard and saw from locals, frequent assaults on YouTube, and from govt, made me think I was unwanted and I was bored and fed up with it all.
I felt I had painted myself into a corner but where was the best alternative? Plan B was either going to be Vietnam (very likeable), Indonesia, or Phils. I like the other countries too but don't feel like learning a new language.
I'm caring for my parents now in Canada and planning my next move in Asia.

In your opinion, how to Filipinos feel about foreigners learning to speak Tagalog?
I speak fluent Thai and the majority of Thais don't respect me for knowing too much.

Here in Quebec, Canada, immigrants learn French or face a huge uphill battle gaining employment.
It would not surprise me if Thai immigration added the language test hurdle and it's not out of order.
People will look back and say "remember how great 2019 was?"

Due to supply and demand factors, these girls have few choices. It's usually down to you or Somchai the taxi. Great she's with you and devoted but what's her better options?

I overstayed 1 year and got a 10 year ban when caught. I had already made up my mind even before my deportation that after 15 years full time in Thai, I wanted a change. Now I'm in Philippines and love it. I feel very welcome. Can still go to Laos for my fill of authentic Thai and Issan foods. I can speak Thai there if I wish. Laos is also very welcoming but the visa on arrival is not free. I don't miss Thai.

You will be happier in Philippines as are many ex Thai expats. The locals want you there, the visa is easy, and the ladies look the same but are sweet and speak English. From there, you could tour SEA.
My Opinion: We are not welcome or wanted in Thai. Those that think they are welcomed/wanted are believing the illusion, which isn't always too bad as life is short but don't forget Thai is not the only option.

I second too that I'm not in Asia now. When the hospitals inevitably crash, they will save their own except those that can pay private. Mama Noodles is already currency to Thais who didn't have a pot to <deleted> in to begin with.
