Have to agree that this GFM is not appropriate here. Sorry for the deceased family but if the fella could afford numerous hols to Thailand then surely he would have some assets in Wales like a property etc which the family could borrow against in order to get his body home?

Looks like a grey nomad from the blurred picture. Charge & deport the drunk old fool, ban him for 5 years and cancel his retirement visa. Seems every day it's the grey old nomads making the news for the wrong reason.
Grey nomad? Is that what the retirees are known as? I’m 69, married to the same Irish woman this last 47 years and living in Hua Hin for the last 13 of them. Grey nomad my backside. This fella on the scooter just a drunk young buck.

My Edocrinologist travels down from Bangkok once a month and I see him in Bangkok hospital Hua Hin and I pay only 1050baht for the consultation. Lord alone knows how much BKK hospital here takes out of that 1050 for admin and office space ( as most will know they don’t give anything away) so I wonder how much of the fee ends up in the consultants pocket, not much I’d say?

Urging this administration to address environmental issues, is like urging the Pope to consider making abortion legal. It is like urging Justin Bieber to start writing deep, meaningful songs. It is like urging The Weekend to create songs that will not be forgotten by next year. It is a bit like asking Trump to behave with integrity, or Prayuth to consider the interests of the masses. It just will not happen.
If Pita gets appointed the new PM, there is a chance Thailand can move forward, the regressive, toxic, damaging, caustic, and completely out of touch dinosaurs can be moved out of the way of progress, and the nation can see some progress.
Don’t hold your breath…

Friend bought in Spain now can only spend 90 days at most there, if there was a visa I think they would have found one in the last 3 years
Not so. I’m Irish and have a home in Spain so the visa rules obviously don’t apply to me but have lots of Brit friends down there and of course there is a visa but the financial requirements are quite steep around 27k euro per year for each applicant and lots of hoops to jump through which I would imagine would put many people off applying. Sort of reminds a chap of somewhere closer to home…

We are retiree’s with a home (owned) to run and a life to lead, our average spend per month is 80-85k into the local economy, ( Hua Hin) We made the mistake of flying home to Ireland directly after visiting our grandson in Australia on March 2nd for business reasons, we both have our health, wealth and the desire to return back to HH. Why the hell are we being excluded? Mad.

Okay, she proved a point but does anyone think that she’s going to change anything? The lady is wasting her time.

Okay, here’s the situation. I’m 63 and have been retired in Hua Hin for 4 years. Financially sound and use cash on deposit for my non O retirement visa as I have one decent private pension but can’t be bothered going through the hoops with letters of support etc etc. Own home, own car and bike and on a monthly basis spend a significant amount into the local economy and I’m far from unique. When I need medical treatment ( which is often) I go to the local Bangkok Hospital here in town get treated, pay my bill and everyone’s happy. I’ve pre existing conditions which rule out any form of health insurance so here in lies the rub. If I’m forced out of the country by not being able to renew my visa who is going to lose? Not me as I’ll sell up and head down to Penang.
Some people are trying to bite or indeed cut off the hand that feeds them. Thai logic at its finest. I really do think Thailand is a fab country and the general population are on the whole a sound race of people but sadly run by a complete bunch of clowns. I shall miss Thailand enormously.

Terrible waste of 3 young lives. May their god be good to them. ????

Pure and utter nonsense. What a complete and farcical situation regarding the op’s predicament, just one more example of the pure <deleted> that’s Thai immigration. I’ve no issues financially meeting these latest requirements regarding a retirement visa but tbh I’ve had enough of jumping through unnecessary hoops
to keep it. I spend enough annually in this country and along with thousands more this revenue will be missed.

Really don’t get why the need to show the 800k 90 days after being granted the one year extension and how are they going to ask for proof of 400k minimum at anytime. A bit of a nonsense but will do harm to the fixers that I for one use as I do have the cash but really can’t be bothered to jump through hoops at the behest of immigration cops who’s wages I help to pay through my monthly expenditure in this country of some 85k. Time to rethink this whole Thai living thing and maybe a shift next door to Cambodia? Why do these people want to make life difficult for themselves to get their grubby little hands on my cash?

If anyone here in this forum actually believes that any petition shall bear fruit then I’m afraid that you would be living in cloud cuckoo land.

Ah well, there will always be the good old immigration cops who for a fee would sell their grannies so don’t worry chaps, a few thousand well placed Baht will see those on a tight budget good for the next twelve months and so on...

PEA found out meter is spinning backward
in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum

I’ve 5kw Solar and an analogue meter and quite happily spins backwards all day long and my average monthly bill is around 200 baht. The rest of the estate are all on analogue meters save for one as the old metre and its pole took fire some months ago. PEA replaced the meter with a digital and not only will it not run in reverse but is actually recording the output from his solar array!! Nasty.
