You have a point, thanks. I guess I'll do it if all it means is going into a busy bar or club, sitting for a few mins. while looking around. Can't get into trouble that way (hopefully).

I hear you guys. Fortunately, she a great tattoo artist. Once in awhile goes out with friends to a nite club. I trust her but there is this human thing in all of us. We want to makesure. She's legit but want to verify and confirm. That's all.
Ok, if you haven't got someone already I'll do it for the heck of it. PM me with details.

To the OP:
Why did you want to import Rogaine? Curious as it's easily available here both at pharmacies and on Lazada.
What was the banned ingredient customs said? Can't be minoxidil which is the active ingredient in all the local formulations.

True and I have zero inclination to leave Thailand so far. All in all, good and bad, I like it here.
However, this thread has made for fascinating reading. Having been only to Mexico and Costa Rica in Latin America, I've sat at my computer and virtually traveled to countries I'll probably never ever visit in person. Lots of useful info and anecdotes, especially from people who have actually visited/lived there.
Jingthing, a suggestion brought to mind by WyrldTraveler's mention of the book he is writing:
Copy this thread, edit it so that it has a somewhat linear structure, embellish it with pics, add in some data from sources quoted and self-publish on Amazon. You might be surprised.

A copy of the House registration of the person that the applicant reside?
Curious about this. A person applying for a non-Imm O need not necessarily be a resident of Thailand. Or am I missing something?

Proof of 800k baht in the bank or proof of 65k baht income and proof of retirement.
A few posts of getting a multiple entry visa there but most are for single entry visas.
Thanks, UJ. I would definitely apply for multiple entry.
Can the 800k be in a Thai bank (I've been working here for years) or does it have to be in the US (home country)?
I went to the Savannakhet Thai consulate site, all in Thai, but from a consulate in another country it lists among other requirements for the non-O:
1. Criminal Record Certificate, not more than 3 months old, issued by the country of which the applicant is a national or a permanent resident
2. Medical Certificate, not more than 3 months old, certifying that the applicant does not suffer from illnesses such as Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Elephantiasis, Drug Addiction and Third Stage Syphilis.(Download Medical Cert)
In case 1. is required can I satisfy it with a Thai Police Clearance Cert. again because I haven't been back to the US in more than 10 years? 2. is trivial.
Thanks again.
-
How about non-O based on retirement? Is Savannakhet good for this? Docs? Thanks.
-
Curious as posters mention getting a non-O from their home country:
Is it possible to get one at Thai Embassy/Consulate in a 3rd (not home) country, e.g., Laos, Cambodia, India, ...?

Hi, God here.
Bang Bang, a human jackass sometimes I regret having created, left without logging out yet again.
Anyway interesting topic. Of course, I exist. But go ahead amuse yourselves debating the obvious. But I hope at the end of the day you get down on your knees and, you know the drill.
Because, look I have quotas to fill both good and bad. So let's say a fellow, we'll call him John, clasps his hand, closes his eyes and says nice things about me before turning in every night. While his buddy Joe across the street makes fun of his wife saying her prayers, taunting her "imaginary friend". Yes, sadly there's lots of Joe's and not just on TV.
Well, like I said I have quotas. So suppose I have one more person to strike down with an incurable disease before I call it a day myself. Who do you think I would choose? John? Joe? No I am not vindictive. Humans beg my forgiveness all the time and I do oblige. But even from a strictly utilitarian point of view who would it be better for me to have around on Earth in the long run?
I hear the toilet flushing. At least that nincompoop BB is toilet trained. Got to go. But think about what I said.

Sorry to hear this. I always prepay Lazada with my Visa card in order to not have to be around for the delivery and the few times I've returned something there was no problem, the refund showing up on my CC in less than a week.
I would guess in your case the reason was the seller's system was slow in informing Lazada of the cancellation. But then the question is didn't you cancel on your Lazada order page itself, why did you need to contact the seller?

11 minutes ago, CharlieH said:True. But registration etc. seems all in Thai. And what scares me most is that help will be strictly Thai too. E.g., Lazada's English chat and phone help are pretty good. I recently had to return a bum chair. The seller was uncooperative but Lazada help lines sorted me out. I would have been lost if I had to face rapid fire Thai.
So, I guess all in all it's an investment Shopee figures not worth the return. And as impulse says we have options. So screw Shopee.

It makes searching for and finding the best price for any item much more difficult, especially given Lazada's very poor product search functionality.
Yep, orrible search function. Now I am thinking this might be intentional. Kind of the same principle in malls where they put the up escalator on the opposite side of the down one hoping people will be distracted by something shiny in between.

And I didn't do a serious search...
Good find but still 25% more. I checked a few other random items. Pretty much the same so no big deal maybe. Still it would be nice if Shopee put out an English version. Sucks if we don't matter enough.

Once Shopee cares to put out an English version so that the rest of us can comparison shop ...
Aquarium corner filter SOBO WP-707C (found the Shopee listing accidentally from google):
Shopee 200b. = https://shopee.co.th/Sobo-Wp-707C-Corner-Filter-กรองมุมตู้ปลา-เพื่อให้น้ำใสสะอาด-i.19155614.1649285342
Ok, so this is just one item. But has anyone, maybe with a Thai partner, done more L vs. S checking? It might not be Lazada's fault because sellers, thinking they have a captive non-Thai speaking market, jack up prices. Still it would be nice if Shopee put out an English version or are we expats too few to bother.

Just to keep the disparagement balanced, surely you mean..."And many of the Uzbek prostitutes are, in fact, well educated with maturity and appealing personality (attributes not often to be found in a Thai prostitute).
You are right, of course. Freudian slip, the reason being probably that amongst the Uzbek women I have met at these clubs - and I have met several over the past years - have been med students, bank managers, school teachers, musicians and the like, all with decent English, with whom I have spent hours gabbing prior to the paid part of the night.
The reason for educated "middle-class" Uzbeks purveying their favors in Bkk clubs being their economy, though I believe the situation has improved since Karimov died. The bank manager told me she made $200/month.
Of course, you could counter that, maybe being what I am, I never get to meet Thai "med students, bank managers, school teachers, musicians and the like". So I was comparing apples and oranges. Again you would be right.

Nothing strange at all. The whole point of making money is for a good life. Gals, booze, fast cars, bling, art, whatever floats your boat, good for you that you can afford it.
3 hours ago, CartagenaWarlock said:Just to test her if she is trust worthy or not, I once gave her an ATM card
Now, this I have a problem with. It proves nothing because no gal's going to be dumb enough to gyp a cash cow. She knows she scores brownie points by staying in line, which goes toward earning 5k the next day, and the day after, ...
3 hours ago, CartagenaWarlock said:But I don't want somebody else having sex with her till she is pregnant and the child is born.
Not going to happen. You're an older farang and she's a very attractive (I assume as Poseidon is probably the best MP in town) young Thai female. Even if you look and bang like George Clooney (well, honestly, I have no idea how George is in the sack but Amal looks happy enough). Because you're too different and because there's a horde of young Thai (her people) studs panting after her.
No big deal though. She makes you happy now, right? And, we can safely assume she's got a Thai gik or two going currently as well. So, no reason the same configuration can't continue in the future. Just accept this, ain't that hard.
But I see where you're coming from. You want to be sure the child is yours. Well, that'll be pretty easy to verify when the little fella is born. And she knows that. And she knows (or will know) what she stands to lose if the DNA comes back with no sign of Cartagena.
Couple of thoughts though:
1. Sex: Why only this one gal? I know she must be good but for 5k/ST you have only to snap your fingers. Play around a bit. Plaza, Emmanuelle, there are other top MPs to poke your head into. If your wealth has made you lazy then dial up escort services and order.
My point is that it's a bit unhealthy to decide that only this one gal can get you off when it's certainly not true.
2. Child: Play the field and get to know a few different gals and their lives as far as possible. Don't kid yourself. Top end hookers here are not poor gals who cry themselves to sleep each night wondering when their very own Somchai in a shining white chut will ride in.
They all make north of 100k/month and some a lot more. Which means they can afford and may already have succumbed to the lures of gambling (mucha many), drugs (many), taking on big debts to finance such bling as a BMW, Hermes Birkin, supporting a handsome gik, and a hiso lifestyle in general. Which means she's not going to have the time or inclination to be a mom.
So, when you find someone even mildly wholesome and smart enough to think of life after Poseidon make her an offer which includes leaving her work courtesy a lavish Cartagena-sponsored pension. You don't want someone rushing to drop off your kid at a creche and then to her spot in the fishbowl.
And for Christ's sake don't give her 10mil all at once. Makes no sense as you'll lose leverage. Maybe even the kid. Heck, she could turn the tables and use the kid for leverage to extort more (an angel face does not an angel make). I would say 50k/mth allowance to stay with you, board/lodging/incidentals all covered separately.
Anyway, good luck. If a 1%er can't be happy where's the hope for the rest of us.
Added: Just came to mind Russians (well, Uzbeks, actually) I knew at the now-defunct CM2 and Mixx who left work for exactly similar arrangements: popping a baby for a rich client who committed to pay them circa $1000/mth - which is an enormous sum of money in Tashkent.
Heck, if you are not set on a leuk kreng kid you might poke your head into Mixx and talk to some of the Russian/Colombian head-turners who might present you with a beautiful child given the right inducement.
And many of the Uzbeks are, in fact, well educated with maturity and appealing personality (attributes not often to be found in a Thai prostitute).

That to me would be about as gentle an introduction as you are likely to get. If you prefer diving straight in at the deep end then Calcutta would have to be the city of choice. Chaos reigns supreme here and it's one of those places that you truly will either love or hate with the latter being very much in the majority.
Couldn't agree more even though I lived many years in Kolkata - sort of brings to mind the saying "a face only a mother could love" in a different way.
However, a 40min. flight from Kolkata gets you to Siliguri from where you can drive/take a train to pretty hill stations like Kalimpong and Darjeeling. Sikkim and Bhutan border the north of Bengal as well. In fact, I would recommend anyone coming to the East to head straight north from there to the mountains - the towns on the eastern plains like Kolkata and Patna are mostly ugly.
I would definitely recommend someone new to India to begin in the South. Kochi, the Kerala backwaters and Kerala in general are perfect to start with. Dip your toes there and you just might start to like India. Just saw that Air Asia and Indigo (a very well run Indian airlines) fly Bkk(Dmk)-Cok. Here's a Stickman reader's story about travel in Kerala
and another about medical care (and kindness) there

I do not disagree. I would say the average in India at even an upscale shopping mall is around 5, while in Thailand easily 7.
But here 9s and 10s are almost non-existent, except maybe for the occasional lakorn star. But you do run into them on the street in India and they'll make your head spin: big doe eyes, aquiline nose, luscious lips, tan skin, tall with generous breasts and long legs. And if walking with a gentle sway in a Banarasi sari with goddess makeup on and a gold bindi, oh shit, I feel weak ...

1 hour ago, madmen said:2 months away? how is that OK lol, couldn't imagine have to go through that nightmare every year. It would be expensive and a huge inconvenience if your ill or have even a minor disability.
I grew up in India. There are more holes in the law there then there's law. I would be surprised if there wasn't a workaround.
Not to mention there's a difference in attitude toward farangs India vs. Thailand. Thailand has them banging on the door by the million and seems to be tiring of the attention. Indians on the other would be flattered by a farang wanting to stay long-term because there's very few such (well, with good reason). So, the local people, police and FRRO's would likely be as helpful as they could to help out (yep, complete opposite:-)
Having said this, honestly, unless you know exactly what you're doing a foreigner would have an extremely hard time hopping off a plane to settle down in India. Chaotic, grimy, poor, hard edges, intrusive, alien culture, and on and on. Go spend a week there and you'll know what I mean.
But I am not going to sell my old home country short. The level of intellectual awareness and curiosity is heckuva lot more than here. You'll have engaging conversations with random strangers in coffee shops (middle to upper class mostly all speak English and tend to have a sense of humor Westerners will find familiar). You'll be invited in to homes constantly. You'll be pampered in shops and restaurants. And if you give the place time you'll make some very loyal friends.
Bottom line: If you are seriously considering India find a community of farangs already settled there (Auroville famously comes to mind but I believe there are others, especially in the north on Himalayan foothills) And then go spend a couple of weeks with them before burning a single boat.

But I will contact the student union just get an idea and help from their experiences. Thanks again
As far as I know there's no branch in Phuket. But the Pakistani community at AIT is large so they should have some insight into the ins and outs of Pakistanis staying in this country.

There are several Pakstani students studying at the Asian Institute of Technology (www.ait.ac.th) in Bangkok. You might want to contact their student union - they might even have a Pakistani student org as there are many - and talk to Pakistanis there.
Getting Father Home from Thailand
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
What a terrible situation. Choices seem to be:
(1) Trick or force him back to the UK where he'll be locked up in an old home in a country which he hasn't lived in for 15 years and away from the one which he chose to make his home apparently as soon as he could (like most of the rest of us).
(2) Leave him be here to enjoy the few passages of clarity he has as he slides toward the inevitable.
I know which I would prefer.
Have you thought of finding him a full or part time caregiver? I am guessing 5-10k b. a month would get you one. If the person is trustworthy you could let them handle finances. Might be the best compromise. You love your dad but part of that might be letting go.
