  1. @tomazbodner: unfortunately no numbers are available concerning sick covid-19 people sustaining lasting damage.

There are a lot more dangerous sicknesses out there for which the world does not get locked-down.

I very much doubt the measures are worth the price we pay.

It is true that R0 is estimated at 3.28, which is frightening exponential and letting the virus free course will overload hospitals and IC's, protecting the vulnerable is NOT what has happened.

In Thailand the vulnerable doe not live in elderly communities, they are easier to protect.

This government does not have the brains to think out of the box, if they would have a brain at all, they are military you know?

What would be the point, after 6 months of destroying the economy, to now open the borders, let the virus in, to infect entire population? So the past 6 months were all for nothing then?

Thailand isn't Europe. If you want to get infected, you're free to get on the plane and fly back there.

Unless you're over 65 your risk of dying from SARS-CoV-2 is 0.0005, herd immunity is not for Thailand.

As of januari 2021 it might be safer to live in a Corona ridden country....

As for Covid-19 numbers, well, we know testing has been below other countries, so that would say that we really don't know how many people are really infected, do we ?

Seeing how overwhelmed hospitals are and full morgues I rather think the epidemy is not spreading in Thailand. Keep the country’s door closed and let’s get on with our lives.

Yeah I don't understand that at all. What does it have to do with coronavirus ?

I hardly drink one beer/month but this rather stupid ban makes me crave for some Belgian beers such as a strong Duvel or dark Trappist, even a bitter home town Stella Artois.

I do have some strong alcohol in a drawer though: vodka, gin, Isaan rum, Bacardi, but I am no alcoholic for miles away in the universe, just like some good things sporadically, which Thailand does not have, such as good food....

This is also far from an epidemy as far as this country is concerned with less than 3.000 infected and 54 deaths. I understand the concern for people flying in (do something about it) but locking the country?

Way over, the damage will be factor over a million x worse.

Oh and I see the usual suspects stupid comment higher up:

If you don't like it here go home and months saved of you life.

I hardly visit Thai Visa ever, too many people lacking basic manners here,

80% of posters not belonging to the human species.

Can anyone be arsed meeting these complex requirements? Just put 800k in the bank, sorted.

Still remains a pain in the butt with stupid restrictions far away from real life situation.

In my real life I travel at least 2x one month out of Thailand, fly biz class, pay at least 30 nights hotel + food with my Europe based credit card (which I use world wide)

Thus blocking 800K baht for the sake of some people who fack the system whilst the way I spend my money is satisfactory to myself but not to Thailand.

So far I have used the embassy letter with proof of my income since 2002, I now read signals some immigration offices don't accept the proof of income attached to the embassy letter and I would need the 800k for 2 months in a Thai bank. My extension expires 03 November.

I do consider a fixed account, could have all set up by next week, but if that is the only way that's left, believe me, I have had it with this downwards country.

Unfortunately I am raising the daughter of my partner's brother since she is a few months young, I can not be her legal father thus can not take her outside Thailand.

I now fancy other countries and feel locked in in an unfriendly country.

I built a house and bought an expensive car, all expended, just would like to pack and leave...

  6. When her dad passed away none of the 5 brothers/sisters contributed one satang because they have nothing. Even then that is not acceptable. I paid 70k for all of it, we got a few thousand bath from the envelopes.
Every week a guy on a motorbike stops at my gate to ask money, 10B, sometimes 20B, once 50B. When asked why they come to ask small money my wife answers for funeral.

  7. There is no "typical Thai income"
In the villages millions live of near nothing.
People working their (or rented) rice field, working 2x 1 month, surviving the rest of the year, cutting my grass once a month for 300B, or my maid 300B one day week work (6 hours + food)

  8. I live 40 Kms out Udon Thani and it was bad in the village here, especially Friday's. They were soaking anyone passing by with a killer passion. No farangs in sight except this one picking up his 6 year young from her grand mom's house on my motorbike.

    Should have taken the car.

  9. I Don't get it.

Imported a Krups coffee machine 400 euro (16k THB) with bean grinder, I can make any kind of coffee I like.

After trying many coffee brands import my preferred beans from home country.

My wife sometimes gets a coffee at Amazon, I walk by.

  10. I miss the Asian Koel here outside my Issaan village. hardly hear one a few days/year.

What really annoys me are the roosters in the village, luckily none around my house for the last 10 years. But more and more houses are built within 300m. The end is near I am afraid...

  11. Well which girl would NOT want to sell banana's? Especially if hers are bigger than the other ones.

Fruitman, your comments are getting ridiculous.
The banana shop I refer to is not your usual banana shop.
I am not going trying to explain you anything, except there is a price on every bunch in that shop.
My gf wants to run a shop for as long as I know her, that's 15 years, and the bananas concept from THAT shop is just one of the things she wants to sell.

So as far as I am concerned your comments are a worthless bunch of crap.
  12. I agree , if the other stalls sell banana's than your wife also should start selling those...can't have too many banana's. :sorry:

That banana stall is 8km from our house and better quality than the usual talad nat bananas. GF already made a deal with the banana shop owner to buy from them.

The shop she is building will be at the front of our property, a bell will do when she will not sit under her umbrella listening to a radio.

Even in the village many more people set up small food stalls as compared to 1 year ago, something is going on and it is not that the region is booming.

  13. Impressive increase of number of small shops in rural Thailand.

I don't know if this is happening everywhere around Thailand, but it is here.

We live for 10 years now 40km from Udon Thani, the nearest amphur is 10km away.

I drive up there a few x week and noticed at least 10 new small shops alongside the road, mostly food: fruit stalls, kay yang and som tam.

But also 2 aircon shops and one battery shop.

A family that sells bananas, from 50 to 100B the bunch, I now buy bananas there 1 or twice a week, nearby other side road someone else made also a small banana shop (i never stop there), next ground sells plants and flowers.

All of that was not there 1 year ago, even not one month ago.

Are people getting desperate for income?

My gf has been complaining over the last 10 years she wants to open a shop in front of our door on a road connecting villages.

It used to be a quite pothole road, now black top was redone twice and lots of trafic.

She spent 30k B sofar on having a shop built, coffee, bbq, bananas, will see what she will try to sell.

I told her she will never earn her investment back...and to "you want to sit there from 07 to 19h" she replied "I close any time I like"

100m from our place a lady set up some hangers and sells cheap (second hand) clothes "sometimes" when she needs some money?

  14. I filled her up at my usual petrol station, meter showed 1520 and the lady running the pump told 1620 and this in Thai at my wife in the passenger seat.
I am always fully awaken at petrol stations, so was my wife, they did not get away with it.
    No doubt this was intentional.
