  1. Having read this thread , i phoned the Royal Thai consulate today in Liverpool and the lady who answered stated there are no new requirements for a tourist visa . When i replied that i had read it on Thai Visa forum she replied quite curtly that Thai Visa forum is neither the Thai embassy or consulate and that she would be issuing visas using the same criteria as before ...have to wait and see i suppose .

  2. Let me start off by saying I,m British [Welsh] but unfortunately the low life scum that get involved in this type of behaviour have been ruining Pattaya for a good few years now . What do you expect when they are catered for by wall to wall football , cheap booze and women and a police force that will turn a blind eye to their drunken outrages . The only thing they understand is the big stick and this needs to be wielded in no uncertain fashion to sicken these louts . The UK is a hel_l hole thanks to these refugees from the Jeremy Kyle show and everywhere they set foot in Europe , they have caused mayhem too . Basically they have no respect for themselves or anyone else and the sooner the better the Thai authorities start handing out draconian sentences , the better ...It really is the only thing they understand . Who in their right mind goes 6,000 miles around the world to do the same as they could do any weekend in their own cess pit of a city back home ? The mind boggles .

  3. I did a visa run a couple of years back and decided to incorperate 'snooky ' in to the trip . I stayed a week and that was enough for me . Decent accomodation was hard to find and nowhere near the standard you would get in pattaya at similar prices . The beaches were ok but you really need your own transport to get around . The town itself is a hole and victory hill was nothing to write home about . I found the people friendly enough but as I went on my own , I found that there was nothing much to do except lie on the beach all day reading and drinking warm ..after the first two sips local beer [it usually comes in a glass making it hard to keep cool] Seemed a lot of the backpacker type there pretending to be poor mostly Dutch , Scands etc but thankfully very few Brit lager louts . I found it was not easy to get in to the company as it is a much younger set than the pattaya crowd and they looked like the cast of neighbours .. albeit stylishly scruffy !! I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had gone with friends but on your own it can soon become tiresome and the heat was tremendous to be lying in all day . All in all , I,d say it,s a long way to go just to sit on another beach when you have so many good places near pattaya ...not that cheap there either as i recall .

  4. When I,m over in Thailand ,I often look at FOX NEWS just to laugh at some of the redneck totally biased coverage given to world events . Coming on to this forum is a similar experience , depressing but habit forming . Good to laugh at the Colonel Blimp attitudes of the majority of posters putting self interest above the genuine grievances of the poorer sections of the populace . If you are so clever and have all the answers , what are you doing over there in the first place ? Surely you should be sorting out the mess in your own countries . We are the first to complain when foriegners come to the UK and tell us how to live, so why presume to tell the Thai people how to conduct their affairs . Maybe some of you should remember that your nightly bar bill far exceeds the wage of an Issan working man ...but that of course is why you are here in the first place

  5. Some body ...cant even be bothered to read his name said they were protesting for 'democracy which they already have ' !! excuse me ..this government was formed after a military coup. Where in the world does this pass for democracy ? So many arrogant well off people on this forum probably with either business interests or living soft lives in Thailand probably worried their Issan GF,s may better themselves and not be bought for a thousand baht a night ..grow up the lot of you .

  6. Regardless of what the armchair generals on here think, moving their imaginarary tanks and soldiers around like Hitler was fond of doing , it takes real guts and a lot of conviction to man the barricades armed with catapults against a bunch of robo cop style fascists with modern weaponry if not the modern intellect to go with it . Would like to see some of you lot if push came to shove in your own countries . Fight them on the beaches ...I rather think not , more like scuttle away to another thirld world country to lord it and leave it to the poor bloody infantry as per usual .

  7. Pattaya has definately changed since i first went 20yrs ago ; At the time you were deemed to be a bit of an adventurer [or perv !!] to go to such a place . As I recall the baht /£ rate was similar to what it is now but everything was about a third of today,s prices .Then came the Asian Tiger crash and happy days [ for farang !] 75/80 bht £ common place for a few years and prices stayed pretty much the same . What really changed the place in my opinion was the decicion to go for the 18-30 club clientele and all the attendant problems . Suddenly the backpackers /Hippys and even quite a few of the old pervs were maginalised in favour of wall to wall football and Pig and Whisle[ real baked beanz] style entertainment . Word spread as the Asian world cup ended and the new breed of travellers got home and told their dick head mates about the cheap sun /sand /sex paradise that they could go and cause havok in for the same price as a 2 week holiday on the Med ...and make money too on dodgy designer gear in to the bargain.thereby allowing some pretty nasty types to stay as long as they wanted . Waking up too late , Pattaya decided to go upmarket and new visa laws and higher priced entertainment is making it harder to stay for any length of time . This combined with the current rate of the baht and the fact that the girls are asking crazy money is killing Pattaya at present . Where else in the world though can you still get a splendid appartment 15 mins freom the beach for around £150 a month ? Try doing that in Barcelona or any European city ..or beach resort [ A week in a crumby Blackpool bedsit will cost you double that ] and you will see why Pattaya will neve die ...it will just evolve as it has done over the past 20 odd years in to something I,m afraid the majority of us wont recognise or be able to afford .

  8. I had a great time on Ko sichang . Me and my Thai girl friend went for a day out to Sirracha ,which itself is a nice quiet resort and noticed the ferires going to Si Chang which was the first I knew about it . It cost 40bht one way and when we got there we paid 250 bht for a songthaew to take us all around the island sightseeing . There are some stunning views there and it is very tranquil . The beach area that we ended up on was nice enough and the prices reasonable . It is very much Thai holiday style and those looking for raucous bars and the girlie scene would be better off staying in Pattaya . Personally ,I foun it a pleasure to be away from all the tattoed drunken louts that have ruined Pattaya and thoroughly enjoyed a lovely day . It is possible to stay overnight but the bungalows are a bit pricey as the Thai people tend to go in family groups and fit a whole family in a hut which probably would,dt suit some farang tastes . I,m not saying that it would be ideal for a long stay due to lack of entertainment and getting around the island but anyone seeking some real Thai style peace and tranquility could do a lot worse . Highly recommended in my view

  9. power to the people !! why should,nt the rural poor have a say in how they are governed ? seems to me that a government was elected and because the elite did,nt care for it a military coup was engineered . some of the right wing crap spouted on here telling the thai people how to run their own affairs would make a pig vomit ..how many of these know alls are actually taking advantage of the poor girls from these regions .maybe they prefer to keep them poor and uneducated ..just a thought ................

  10. However, this endeavor has not been successful. The rally has led to a violation of the law and the Constitution and has caused great inconvenience for the people, the economy, and foreign confidence in Thailand.

Nothing like the country's prime minister painting a picture to the newsrooms and lowering foreign confidence even further ...

    Richard

Gee! I guess taking over both airports and the government house were all legal? Constitutional?

(Jingthing well it seems that Jingthing seems to think this was all legal ---- but as i said in my last post - sure he goes to be in his yellow jamas

  11. I,ve been coming to pattaya for 15 years and the only reason the place has gone down hill is due to the mass influx of louts from Britain .As soon as you put wall to wall football together with ;cheap ale and a police force that lets you create hel_l and then lets you off with a paltry fine you are asking for trouble . Years ago when the place was full of fat old Germans the locals were delighted to see a Brit .Now I,m ashamed to say where i come from . The girls have also hardened up as a result of being exposed to the sort of behaviour which is par for the course in the UK .There is an easy solution of course ...crack down hard on anti social behaviour , make the scum terrified to step out of line and they will soon clear off and find somewhere else to spoil
