  1. RIP Stephen Ashton.

As for the previous poster, I have no idea what he is on about.

"I have no idea what he is on about."

No matter how sad, deplorable or unfortunate an event, there always seems to be some bitter, unhappy member of the ThaiVisa fraternity sitting at his computer ready to make it even more sordid with his pointless, groundless hate mongering.

Especially sad that the victim was a young man with his whole life ahead of him.

Khun Suradit, I admit that sometimes the truth is difficult to digest. This comment was not so pointless, groundless and hate mongering as you may wish... it's a hard fact to acknowledge that a young innocent tourist died for no reason, due to the lawlessness of some groups of irresponsible Thai persons who reportedly started shooting at each other on new years day... Who in God's name is attending now a new years party with a gun in his pocket, and why?

  2. The year of Miracle Thailand.

Twice as many gun murders per year than the US and a population a quarter of the size.

is this true? i guess you're saying per head of population?just interested, have you got figures and source?

according to this tally its twice the amount of deaths so considering Thailand has 1/6th the population then its what 12 times higher rate of gun homicide.

Seems quite high but maybe thats what he was referencing.

    http://www.nationmas...s-with-firearms

So it's confirmed indeed: really frightening to see that Thailand has the third place in the world! Really to be proud of... It doesn't surprise me neither that the army, when called in for kicking the red shirts out of the Rachaphrasong area in 2010 after two months of illegal occupation, used life ammunition knowing that Thailand has the number three position in the world in killings with fire-arms! Even though Abhisit and Suthep Thaugsuban have not been convinced as "murderers" yet and do not make up for the statistics, which would bring Thailand in the first position....

  3. Given her scant political savvy,...

I dunno, she seems pretty savvy to me. There surely must be a lot of people trying to manipulate her, but I don't think she could hold her position just by following other people's advice. She has to be able to choose which advice to follow. I don't think she's following her brother's orders, either.

My wife loves her. My barber hates her (hates her brother even more). I find her a very attractive person.

Your wife must be from the North or N-E, probably Udorn Thani. Your barber from Narathiwat or Pattani...

  4. Chumphon: 430 km or half-a-way: my best choice is Nanaburi Hotel. Tel.: 077 503 888. GPS coordinates are: N = 10gr. 29' 55.09" - E = 99gr. 10' 47.29". I bet you can't find a better place and quality for this price. Room rates are between 900 and 1,000 THB/night, breakfast included. I usually take my dinner in the restaurant (coffee-shop) in front of the railroad station with coordinates N = 10gr. 30' 09.41" - E = 99gr. 10' 34.19". They have excellent seafood.

  5. Dear G'kd,

You start your message with words about people assuming abhisit is a decent man, then you try (with the words below) to build a perception that he's not decent because he never worked whilst he was at university, etc etc etc.

    You wrote:

..... and with no private sector work experience. He went from a short term lectureship, to a safe seat in the House. Think about it. The man never really worked prior to his ascension. He didn't even work as a civil servant prior to being selected for the political life. I could understand if he had been a gifted academic or was a unifying fgure, but he was not.

I went to school with guys like this. A guy that has never had a real job, whether it is a part time job at the 7-11 or doing manual labour like so many university students have done .....

So does that mean that everybody who never worked whilst at university / everybody who never worked in the civil service before they entered parliament is 'not decent'?

What actual evidence / facts do you have which proves that abhisit is not a decent man?

Just a quick question g'kid, are all the PT politicians, red thugs now in parliamnet and/or occupying senior positions within the various ministries and/or the various deputy prime ministers all decent men (and women)? Please give us your summation on this.

    ADDITIONAL COMMENT:

Some perceptions here are wrong about Abhisit. My assessment is that Thai politics are not mature enough for a clever guy ,like Abhisit. He came one century too early!

  6. I think if Thaksin ever achieves amnesty or sets foot back in the country for any reason 2010 would resemble a squabble in a kindergarten playground.

It would definitely open the divide further & bring it onto the streets for an all out war !

That would be the time to leave the "land of smiles" far behind & seek a better country to reside.

whether he comes or stays away, the divide is here to stay for a long time.

some people are naive enough to think that his demise would somehow be a cure for the underlying problems.

    life isn't so simple.

I am definitely convinced that his (Thaksin's) removal from this world (natural or with some help from humans) would solve a lot of problems in this country, although this is the most evil thought that one can have. The split of the Thai people is only related to one single argument: PRO or CONTRA Thaksin... nothing else! It's by the way the only reason for the existence of the red shirt movement (paid by him), that has been lured into this divisiveness through Shinawatra populism and loose promises, to be continued in the actual puppet government. For sure his demise will be a cure for the underlying problems that have been created by his populism and false promises! Can you see anyone else in this position to replace this fugitive? Remember when Napoleon was removed from power, exiled from France and however returned: it was short-lasting... and devastating!

  7. The man then went into his own kitchen and came out with the knife, to protect his dog and hopefully drive the animal away.

How would a dog recognize a knife as something dangerous? the obvious thing here would have been a big stick (or a broom which he surly would have had to hand).

17 stab wounds is is a frenzied attack, how do we know that the bits were from the retriever before he started attacking it, to me a retriever is very much a docile animal and possibly the injuries to the german were sustained as the dog defended itself.

Anyway a person who does that to a dog should never be allowed to keep any animal.

Ever been attacked by a crazy dog, even though it might be a golden retriever? I can tell you, if you would have a knife at hand at that moment you will surely use it, perhaps 20 times more.... and then you will understand!

  8. bla bla bla bla ..... for so many years now...

This will never end and you know why?

    1. the taxi fares which have officially been set are way too high (compared to other regions in Thailand)

    2. scams are supported by the police (just try to declare a scam... just try...)

    3. Province officials are all corrupt.

If fare-competiton is open again, taxi fares should drop by at least 50% (and then they are still more expensive than their colleagues in Bangkok)!

It is still rewarding to stalk tourists when they arrive for the "discounted" price they can get. Anyone can drive the tourists much cheaper to the city or to Pathong than the officially announced (and officially declared) tariff in the police stations (because they are colluding with the taxi and tuk-tuk maffia) and still gain enough for making his day.

Phuket is a lost place for tourism. No one can save it anymore... It's an Augias stable that no one can clean anymore. Thaksin put the corrupt cattle there and it's not his sister that will clean this mess...

  9. This lady is super... not only is she a newborn expert in flood mitigation measures and management, she is also the head of the security operations in the South and still has time enough to go chatting with the Queen Elisabeth after having welcomed Barak Obama, seeing together the futsal final in the brand new stadium that has been declared unfit by the world football association. What else may we expect from her in the near future? See how she will manage to escape the non-confidence vote, which of course will turn in her favour, majority against minority. The rice scheme is probably taking another snag at the WTO from a claim entered by the USA; but skilled as she is, she will solve the problem between two upcoming state visits abroad and security-operations meetings in the deep South...

  10. This must have been one special 42 year old Thai women, to ones life in the rubbish and spend the rest of your life in a Thai prison.

It seems obvious this guy is/was not in sound mental state to do such a thing. Thinking about it, as unfortunate as it is, let the Thai prison system have him, and get him out of society all together.

harsh idea from you. I am pretty sure that in European courts, with a good layer, he probably gets away with it of with a small [symbolic] punishment... After all, he saw his entire world falling down in a matter of seconds... Where did het get the knife from?
