Looks like the C virus created an excellent opportunity for profit taking. Look how far above the 200 day moving average the S&P has been trading, a correction was past due. But there have also been early warnings of recession in the bond markets.
Some serious comments from Warren Buffet from May 2019 about the US economy like him or not he's smarter than us when it comes to the US economy and takes a very long view.
"Buffett highlights that unemployment remains so low, yet interest rates and inflation are not rising. At the same time the U.S. government continues to spend more money than it takes in.
These conditions are not sustainable for the long term, Buffett says.
"No economics textbook I know that was written in the first couple of thousand years that discussed even the possibility that you could have this sort of situation continue and have all variables stay more or less the same," he says."https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/03/buffett-no-textbook-predicted-the-strange-economy-we-have-today.html
Most leading economists have been predicting a recession. This may be a beginning.

If you can prove 40k baht of income you do not need to show any money in the bank.
Thank you. That is what I wanted to hear.

I still don't quite understand. Here is my scenario: I just converted from retirement to marriage visa with 400k in bank. Now I need to use part of that 400k (prob about 200k) for an angioplasty. So, if I show up next year with say 300k and proof that I receive well above 40k/mo. will I get a renewal of my marriage visa?
-
Once you have a marriage visa by showing 400k in bank do you need to show that much every year or can showing a monthly income of 65K work for visa renewals?

I speak only a few Thai words but I agree with the sign.
Only because I have witnessed too many Falang get upset or even yell at staff at various places because they cannot understand English. Calling them stupid and the such.
It can be frustrating but not really their fault. Blame the government for not making them learn English in school.
If you want good English interaction with mostly polite people, go to the Philippines 90% there speak.
It is indeed the government's fault. I live in rural Thailand. Several years back one of my Thai nieces came to me for help. It came out that her English teacher could not speak English so there was no conversational English happening in class. When I offered to help I was officially rejected.

A deal with trump is never a deal.
True. A trump deal is never a deal until he has screwed as many people as he can and then line his pockets and then walk away,

I have a little over 500,000 in bank for way more than 3 years. I have a monthly income of over 100,000 THB for even longer than that .
My last visa and going back many years have been a retirement visa,
Last year I renewed my retirement visa with about 1,000,000 in the bank.
However, over the course of the year I had several health issues come up so my bank account has dwindled.
Therefore, I decided to switch to a marriage visa this Jan when my retirement visa expires.Anyone know if this is going to be a problem or not?

I will go against the wife and offer to take the white one. We have 4 now but have the room to take another. If you are willing to bring it to Kamphaeng Phet I will fight with my wife on its' behalf. All kittens deserve a loving home.

i had a valve replaced in india 10 years ago. at the time the entire package (valve, operation, meds, 1 week hospital, 1`week beach resort, RT flight) was about $12k, or less than 10% the cost in a us hospital.
at the time the same model valve alone cost over $10k in the usa. put the whole thing on a credit card, then transferred to a 0% credit card offer to delay paying immediately.
i believe a stent install should be considerably less expensive, probably less than $5k.
However, then there is cost of airfare, hotels etc.

May I kindly suggest you get a second opinion and complete additional medical research.
Note: In new literature, in certain cardiac situations, it has been found medication as a solution is just as effective as a
surgical procedure. My grandfather was a surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic -- he always suggested getting a second
opinion without initially advising the consulting MD of the result of the first opinion. You may feel more confident moving
forward if you have additional information. You may also seek cardiac professionals with a background in management of cardiac issues
using medication-- good luck; however, I urge you, if possible, to investigate options before rushing into a surgical solution which may carry
more risks than management of certain cardiac conditions via medication.
I actually have the opinion of 3 intervention cardiologists. Until now meds have worked but my condition is worsening. But thanks for your input

I currently have 500000 THB in my account for way more than required time.
In Jan 2020 I plan to convert my retirement visa to a marriage visa. However, I now require the insertion of a cardiac stent and I may not be able to wait until Jan.
If I get it sooner I will go under the required 400000 THB required.
Do you think that immigration might cut me some slack given the circumstances?

I have had a Bangkok Bank savings account and a current (checking) account since I moved to Thailand (Koh Samui at that time) in 2002. I have since opened a savings account (2013) in my local Bangkok Bank in Kamphaeng Phet. So I have 3 accounts with them. I can honestly say I have never had any problem with any of them. I also have on occasion to use various services and they always come through. I only use the Be 1st cards as ATM cards. I also have a MasterCard Platinum and a Visa credit cards. I don't understand why all the problems so I suggest a sit down visit with the branch manager but be sure to take a Thai/English (or whatever your native tongue is) speaker along with you.

My SS has always gone to my USA bank.
I then transfer all or part to my Bangkok Bank account.
As a senior citizen my American bank does not charge me for the transfer so my only loss is in the exchange rate.
Since it is coming from an American bank it shows as foreign transfer.

I have been using a private hospital where I have had a coronary artery stent inserted, treated for breathing problems (not emphysema) and I arranged for my Thai step-daughter to have her baby there as well as pre and post natal visits. Most Thais consider that we must be very wealthy but personally I am okay with what I have to pay compared to American health care.
And, BTW, in 2006 I had spinal surgery at a Bangkok private hospital and when I told my MD friends in America how much and sent them copies of my x-rays and MRI's they said in America, without insurance I probably would have paid 5x as much.
I never had Thai insurance because when I arrived here at 62 y.o. it wasn't in my budget and now at 81 it is impossible.
So, bottom line: I am happy with the medical service here and find the costs well within my ability to pay.

Blame the advertisers - $ # 1
Watch Thai TV, there all white & they never sweat, they all have great AC, that's what they aspire too, they think they should be the same as their soap opera starts.
Believe it is similar in the west with people wanting to be like their heroes like the big ass Kardishians or whatever they are called.
Because my Thai wife watches those Thai soap opera I sometimes am trapped into watching them. What I have noticed is that many of the Thai actresses appear to have white faces. This is accomplished with makeup and lighting If you check out their arms and legs you can see they are brown skinned. Some more than others. For myself, I like the brown skinned ladies.
-
I thought it was to make sure you will not be a burden to the Thai government in case you have an emergency.
However, now that they are requiring insurance the 400K should not be a requirement.
Of course, you can get around that 400k by showing a monthly income that satisfies the type of visa you have.
At least that is as I understand things and I have been shown to be wrong a few times in the past.????
-
Here's what I don't understand:
The reason for the requirement to have 400k in bank is ostensibly to ensure that if I fall ill I won't be a burden on the Thai economy. I am fine with that .
However, if I should fall ill and need to use that money for my health care I would fall below the 400k requirement. What happens then? Will I be required to leave Thailand?

Can someone please list an accurate list of the documents required to change from a retirement visa to a marriage visa?
I have no problem meeting the financial requirements so we can check that one off.
