Yikes! makes me nervous as I'm arriving in 10 days--always buy One way tix and clear the hurdles...get my 30 day stamp and extend that--then head to laos for the actual double visa and extend those for a 6 month stay > or <..

Anyone see any issues with my approach as I dont want to come with visa and lose those free 30+ days.....  ??

I do realize its a gamble as leaving the states without a visa has raised a few questions at the airport one way tix

I flew in to Thailand on the mid July, it is my 12th tourist visit in 3 years with 2 extensions on that, the lady at immigration looked over my passport as though it was the latest gold jewellery catalogue.

I was a little anxious as I had heard they were cracking down on and refusing some entries, she asked if I had a Thai wife, too which my reply was yes, I wasn’t required to verify that as I had a home address on my immigration card and not a resort or hotel address ( not sure if that made the difference) there was also no mention of money on me or a return ticket, no other questions were asked.

They could of refused me on a technicality that I’m not a legitimate tourist.

If immigration  are hot on an issue then they all want to land a fish, in your case there’s nothing wrong with having friends in Thailand and in Laos and having holidays in both, just make sure your all over your story and remember you are on a “tourist”visa, therefore if pulled into question the  story needs to be around tourist adventures, so I would plan a sightseeing tour around Thailand in your mind so you have a clear understanding of what and where you are going (weather you do it or not is a different story), just be on the front foot just in case questions are asked.

Actually, last time I went to Vientiane by crossing the Nong Khai border, they told me that visa on arrival was gone from start of this year. I was also supprised, but they told me, that there is no longer any charge for visa entering Laos if you only stay a maximum of 15 days.

I get 90 days on a visa exempt entry, if I get a simgle entry visa it would not only cost more I would also get only 60 days

Thank you all for your replies

I went too Laos 3days ago crossed at Friendship bridge number 4 at Chiang Khong. Absolutely no hassle at all. Except we wanted to go over in the hire car for a few days which was not allowed, so instead we went over for around 5 hours and looked around in Huay Xai.

Laos entry was $30 US or 1200baht.

they have fairy buses to take you to the border and also to return all vey easy.

Bare in mind this is something Thailand is trying to implement into the future. Money for jam

  3. Hello, is it true that Thai also cannot send money abroad ? Just $3000 and Kasikorn said that a Thai needs ID and other documents from the recipient ! Please confirm ? Thank you.

For the last 2 years I have used transfer wise, I was getting upset at all the unnecessary Bank charges from both ends, I was running out of Hemorrhoid cream, now I don't worry about swift numbers or bad exchange rates, it's always the world rate, and always delivered in around 2 days.

Currently I do only send from Aust to Thailand, I haven't gone the other way as yet, but I see no way of anyone being able to stop the transfer, it also stops bank tellers asking shitty questions as to where the cash is going.

  4. It's the same in Thailand, passports have to be applied for and renewed in person. So your partner will have to travel to her nearest passport office when the time comes to renew her passport. Indeed, as this system has been in place for more than five years, she must have done so to get her current passport, if not the one before that.

It is a sign of the times, I'm afraid. The innocent have to suffer these inconveniences because of the activities of those attempting to deceive.

For a new passport I would understand and agree with, but a bio check every time for a 3 month tourists visa for Australia, I'm still struggling to see the need.

  5. I certainly agree with security, but do the people who make these rules, especially for developing countries like Thailand realise that not everyone has the means of travel like farang land.
My partner sits on a bus to Bangkok for around 6 hours to sit in a 10 minute interview to assess wether it's her or not every time she wants to come to Australia , then jumps on the bus home another 6 + hours. Surely fingerprints and eye scans can be saved on a computer, if I can return home to Australia with my passport without biometrics then surely it should be ok for her to enter with her passport,I mean am I missing something here. I'm certain there are tens of thousands of people around Asia putting up with an outdated system. Any answers ?
