I have friends, (American husband and wife) that have retired here and have contributed to the Thai economy each month to the tune of around 80,000 to 100,000 baht each and every month for several years. Now the Thai government wants to drive these people out??

This looks like a giant step backwards for Thailand. Thousands of vendors here depend on foreigners spending their retirement income here in Thailand for goods and services. I strongly suspect that The Thailand government has made an extremely unwise decision. These foreign retirees that are here take nothing and spend, spend, spend and now the government is telling them to go spend somewhere else???

It is my understanding that Thailand NEEDS dollars brought into the country and now they forcing people to take their dollars and go away????

My function here is to bring dollars into the country and hurry and spend them so I can bring more in.

No i don't think the thai government cares so much about the incone. They would rather let all the lying and cheating poo ying steal money and houses from the farang. Otherwise they would make a law against that and not condone such activity.

I would hope this is an April Fool's joke and not real. Because it would be the last straw and i would move out of thailand. Obviously thailand wants foreign money and not the foreigner. And without foreign money we all know thailand would be just another desert.

I was living in an apartment in bangkok for six months. I have a simran 3000 watt step down converter that i have used for the entire time for my desktop computer, voip, guitar amp, stereo, etc. Never had a problem. The apartment is about 30 years old by the way with two prong outlets. I just moved to a brand new apartment in sukhumvit soi 50. I plugged everything in the same way with my computer and stereo into the converter. I had the desktop computer booted and plugged in the ethernet cable from the router (the router was bought here 220V) into the cpu and the circuit breaker tripped.

The owner sent over an electrician and he checked my converter and said it has a short. Hmm... six month old converter working for 6 months and move to this building and now it is shorted out. Any suggestions of the problem and where i can take the unit to get checked and/or fixed? Also don't want to get it fixed, plug it back in and have it get shorted out again.

This sucks... maybe too many farang spending too much money in this country. I just took money out via atm yesterday at a rate of 33.20 B for USD.

Must be time to move.
