In all honesty I don't see more people coming back to grey UK because they don't want to do the 90 days report. Despite being bureaucratic, the retiree visa is still quite attractive compared to many other countries.

On the other hand, taxes are another story.

The criterias are completely absurd. You need to work for a company which makes 150 millions of dollars each year, which excludes self employed people (the vast majority of digital nomads).

when people say "retirement visa", is that meaning EOS, "extension of stay" ?

I'm in my late 50s, and considering another O-A if the insurance premiums are available , especially at a lower rate. During the process of obtaining an O-A , what is the timing and place to purchase the required insurance?

Is it possible to purchase /advisable health insurance that would cover all trips to Thailand and maintain that insurance. As at an older age, it might not be available at all.

Is there a purchase that would cover both ?

  2. I need one to extend a 5 year drivers license at Bang Jak land office, On nut.

However, I currently am on a TR60 visa, so not 90 reporting receipt, I can get a TM30 from my apartment owner.

Is there any chance of getting a COR at CW , based on the above ?

What if I return with a O-A visa and have no 90 day report?  Later this year?

Using my Yellow House book and my Pink ID card saved me from getting a residency certificate from my embassy or from Immigration.

I have a 5 years DL from this same Land Office , which seems to expire 12/2024, however at present I am now using tourist visas and will leave late July.

I'm wondering what , if anything , I might use to fulfill the "residency option" , I stay in a service apartment, but don't think I can use their yellow-book.

    I am from the US.

I will like be back for long stay May 2025, after the DLs expire.

Despite it being > 6 months from expiry, I was thinking of attempting to renew them in July.

    appreciate any feedbacks.

  4. am wondering if anyone has recently visited western prisoners, say in Nonthaburi, etc ; and if so any information on how to do so would be appreciated......

this would be not for anyone I know,  but just wondering if one place or embassy might be easiest, I think I've heard place to start is an embassy ?

  5. apparently better than Bosnia, and worse than Sri Lanka per 100k vehicles,  and 24,000 / year  dead , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate

probably the most dangerous thing in Thai   you might get lucky ,  esp on backroads in the daytime are some lovely spots , but  doesn't seem like much improves,

I have friends that keep their big bikes outside bangkok and ride all the way down to Songkhla apparently , but I don't think I've ever seen a highway patrol car

There's a counter shop in the basement of the Tops Market at Suk Soi 17 (Robinson's center) -- right nearby the MK restaurant there -- that does quality re-soling work. Depending on the kind of shoe and sole, probably run a few hundred baht.

The guys who work there don't speak much English, though, so you need either to be able to show them what you want in terms of the material or have someone translate. I also have the impression that they tend to be somewhat flexible in their pricing, depending on whether the customer is Thai or farang, and which of the guys there is quoting the job.

FWIW, I've had them put new soles of some of my shoes in the past specifically because the original soles were smooth and tended to be very slippery on smooth, wet street/sidewalk tiles, whereas the replacements were the grooved surface kind that don't slip so much.

With the street corner guys, it's pretty hit and miss. The prices will be lower, but you may get a good job or you may get a crap job, depending on if you've ever dealt with that person before and if they can even understand what exactly you want done.

BTW, I've also read that putting a couple lines of something called "Shoe Goo" on the bottom of one's shoes will help with the slipping part. I haven't seen that product sold here in Thailand, but I've got a couple tubes from the U.S. waiting at home for my next chance to try that on some slippery soles.

I've heard Vibram soles if that is what they are get hard in Humid  climates,  maybe you can sand them with sandpaper or try puff paint

400b a week ago and I speak good Thai and had my pink card and yellow book. Snotty old man... It’s worth it though. Plenty of water at Soi Sawan waterfall now.

I think the viewpoint and hike at Khao Phra Wihan is worth the money but I like viewpoints.

I think he meant that   the Preah Vihar NP

Soi Sawan looks to be in Pha Taem NP , which he was saying Was worth the 400B  (? 20 for Thais ?)

We had the rooms facing the street which were a little noisy. Hotel has bungalows at the back which look a better idea.

The closest place to rent a car to drive, would be Ubon?  If so any shop in particular?

To view from the Cambodian side, thru that crossing, I imagine it would be the $35 visa plus  about how much would a driver want from the closest crossing to the ruins and back in 1 day?

I might skip the thai side , and just drive to Pha Taem NP, unless self driving is not advisable from Ubon  etc ?

Another of your extremely broad generalizations unsupported by any independent data. When you're speaking for yourself, don't drag along unnamed multitudes as well. If you don't trust MSM fine. Stop trying to amplify the authority of your views without actual data.

imo, calling it "MSM" anymore is passe, more apropo would be "corporate media" ; sort of like "alt right" should be called "radical right" ; but they reserve that for "the left"

so much is marketing and agitprop, these days , even the paper of record, has morphed into 1/2- 3/4 or its Frontpage  articles being phrased in the terms of clickbait and tabloidism.

Basically your choice of transfer methods is either Domestic ACH, SWIFT, International Wire....the later two being pricey fee-wise.  While Domestic ACH transfers from already established U.S. ibanking ACH transfer links are still getting through to Bangkok Bank accounts it's highly probable that will stop in the near future.

    --------

funny, I setup transferwise today, and it offered two choices ACH and Wire, for $1000  it shows  "Wire" as less expensive by about $1   FWIW

Maybe one can set up both  Schwab International and  Domestic Accounts to have the luxury  of free Wire  transfers

If you purchase an small mobile type router and FireWire it into the existing shared router you will have your own passworded WiFi without the need for a VPN which should improve your speeds.

You can also purchase a dedicated hotspot device in which you place an SIM card to cover whatever deal you do with the telecom company, but you may have to continue with your VPN unless you can lock it down securely with a password, but you will have to check this out.

    Hope it helps

the router/s (there are like 2-3 on each floor) are in the hallways ; and the owners don't allow anyone to even move antennas ; so that won't work

I did by a Wifi extender, which I'm hoping might help , but as a backup  I'm thinking some kind of DTAC 4g hotspot, though not sure how the 4g is in the new condo, I haven't moved to yet

I have a Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro 2 Model E5885Ls cat 6 6400mAh 23wh I use it for my laptop when I need a connection without using a Proxy, but I still get a proxy now and then. But it is good when I have to connect to a bank in the USA that blocks Proxies. They may have come out with a newer model because I got mine in May 2018 downtown BKK the Big IT Tower mall, I don't remember the name of the building, I just remember every floor is Electronics/Computers/Phone......

pantip plaza ? what did you pay for it, so you plug in a DTAC SIM card into it and it works better than a  mobile phone used as a hotspot I imagine?

As long as you do an entry before the enter before date you will get a one year entry without a problem.

After the enter before date you will need a re-entry permit to keep that one year entry valid if you want to travel. Without a re-entry permit you would only get a visa exempt entry.

if he entered on Nov 10, got a 1 year stamp, can he get the re-entry Nov 13 ( Before the actual visa has expired?  or must one be in-country and wait till a day or so after the Visa expires?)

    I would guess the former?

Well if you start with an O-A visa you won't need to apply for the first annual extension based on retirement for about a year or better yet about two years if you learn how to USE the O-A visa for that benefit.

On the other hand if you start with a 90 day O visa, the extension needs to applied for within 90 days (30 days before optimally).

So what is the timing to apply for the EOS (ext of stay), any time during the 2nd year, while on re-entry permits?

Can I wait till the last month of my final 1 year I am stamped in for ? Or how close in advisable?

If you mail it to LA, it probably requires another $20-$30 for the 2- way pre-paid preferred special shipping type, unless you want to mail your passport in the regular mail

$30 for criminal background check here

  15. is there a DTAC data-only unlimited plan that I could use for a laptop  without  slowdowns 4G unlimited, I had one for my phone in the past, but can't seem to understand DTACs website

the wifi in my condo is shared by other tenants(probably insecure), and often goes up & down or is slow,   though I do use a VPN most of the time.

Am also curious if anyone can recommended a 4g hotspot device, instead of using my Android phone as a hotspot

    cheers
