  2. I hand write various things on my receipt I get from my hospital here in Bangkok.  The receipt is mostly in English but not their address (it in Thai) in their letterhead on the receipt.  So I hand write their address in English just below the Thai address.   I also hand write in my physicians name and phone number.  And there is one admin charge for couple of hundred baht that Tricare allowed/reimbursed for years and years but then one day stop....talking to them on the phone they said the description was inadequate because it only said "Other Medical Charges" which was really an admin charge the hit everyone with....Thai or farang.

Anyway, I filed an online appeal/rebuttal saying the charge should be allowed/reimbursed because its an administrative charge applied to all patients.  Well, Tricare approved the appeal and when I saw the revised/updated benefit statement I saw the Tricare "recoded" the charge (they have a 5 digit code for every medical service/product) along with a new description.   So every since then I have handwritten the 5 digit code and description Tricare used on the same line of the receipt where it says Other Medical Charges and Tricare has always allowed/reimbursed it.   And over the years I found out a half dozen or so tidbits of coding/description to include on your receipt or DD From 2642 to help ensure maximum reimbursement.

And I would recommend filing online and setting up direct deposit to a US bank (you can do that online also) because that way you'll get paid/reimbursed in around two weeks.  Otherwise, you must deal with snail mail going and coming and then cashing a reimbursement check.

When you claim for your wife, did you submit through your account or hers?

  3. The sponsor SSAN/DBN does not have to be on the receipt....I've been using Tricare for 10 years here in Thailand for the wife and I.   The receipt definitely has to have the patient's name on it.   You could hand write in the sponsor SSAN/DBN number on the receipt just to play it safe.

You say you don't know the sponsor's SSAN but aren't you the sponsor as you are the military retiree?   Like I'm the sponsor for my wife.   When completing the DD form 2642 in Block 10 it asks for the sponsor's social security number.  When a claim is for me...I enter my SSAN....when the claim is for my wife since I'm the sponsor my SSAN gets enter also not the wife's SSAN.

I always file my Tricare claim online.  Complete the DD From 2642, attached the reciepts(s)/bills and Medical Certificate (i.e, the doctor's summary of what they did), scan, and then upload to Tricare.   Over the years I have received payment ranging from approx 10 days to 20 days....last couple of claims have been around the 10 day mark.  I have the reimbursement Direct Deposit versus waiting on a check via snail mail.

I do know my SSN, what I’m trying to say it’s not on the receipt and the cashier doesn’t know how to add it onto the receipt. I’ll hand writing on it today when I file the claim. Thanks for the help!

  4. Re Chaengwattana Immigration and marriage extensions:

    1. Can anyone who's done one at CW lately confirm UJ's post above that CW does not require bringing along witnesses?

    2. And, does CW Immigration typically do application pending home visit inquiries or not?  And if so, does it matter if one's wife is usually away at work during normal business hours M-F, as opposed to staying around the house?

I just did my extension in Si Racha. We didn't bring any witness while visiting the immigration. Since we are traveling the next day to China, a house visit has scheduled the same afternoon. They told us to find two witnesses with a copy of their hose book and ID. Luckily we found two condo managers to help us to be the witnesses.

  5. Sheryl,

Outstanding information.  I would never had known this but for your postings.  Unbelievably helpful.

One more question please.  What would your opinion be for my wife?  She did 16 years in the Navy but did not retire.  She is 61 and she uses Tricare at present.

She was with me in Pattaya during April-May 2018 visit and will be visiting Thailand with me later on in the year.

    Thanks Again.

P.s.  Appreciate the cervical spine part.  I will discuss with my provider in my yearly physical on Monday.

If you're qualified for Tricare, you could call them before your travel dates to switch to Tricare overseas select, the coverage will begin on the dates you provided.

  6. Is there anyone using Tricare overseas select in Thailand and made the claim recently? I’m a US Navy retirees and enrolled in Tricare overseas select group A. I went to Phayathai hospital for an acute gout attack yesterday. In order to claim that I know I have to download the claim form and submit with the hospital bills. But one thing makes me confused, on the website said it should include sponsor ’s SSN OR BENEFITS Numbers on the hospital bill, which I don't have it on it. Is there a problem?

    Please share your experience, thanks!

  7. Thanks Guys,

while i I do realize that most projects you would hold a small percentage until completion, this is their policy, take it or leave it. I appreciate input, but this is not a discussion about whether I should pay 100% or not, and whether it is correct or not.

my post was looking for those who had work done by them, and while I do appreciate the advice, so far I have one that has the experience and was satisfied.

    thanks again everyone.

I have used them to build a custom Kitchen back in 2012, they are professional and the kitchen is well built. We are buying a new condo, this time we use them again to design our kitchen, we also got a good deal on the kitchen appliances while they celebrating their anniversary on 11th November. They are great, you have nothing to worry about.

  8. Good afternoon,

    • Ask what price the developer will mention to land office during the transfer of ownership (most of them make it lower than what you actually paid). Had one client who paid 1,000,000 from a thai bank account (condo was worth 4,066,000 THB), he never had any trouble transferring it under his (foreign) name.

    • Another solution: you might transfer that amount again from your home country to your Thai Bank account and ask a FET form (Foreign Exchange Transaction form) from your bank for this transaction. You then show THIS FET for transfer of ownership and that should probably work. Remember, the money MUST come from a bank account abroad, under the buyer's name AND in a foreign currency.

    • Some bank also accept to make you a "fake FET" (which is the document you need), but it is not legal and might cost you between 10K and 20K THB per million.

    Hope it helps.

    Cheers.

Thanks, the developers are working hard to get this final paperwork from the bank for me. I was going to wire more money to my Thai bank account, but they said that won't be necessary. Looks like the issue will be resolved soon.

  9. That does sound like it could be the problem: funds being converted from foreign currency to THB is the sine qua non of farang-name purchase. But I'm surprised that they will issue an FET or other suitable confirmation at all for a credit card transaction. Maybe the developer has some influence with the local Land Office to smooth this through.

I like Si Racha a lot and have often thought of living there, and have checked out all the old and new condo buildings. But in the end I always decide that it is just a little bit too far away from the farang restaurants etc in Pattaya.

I really like the area, it's not too far from the airport, exactly 1hour drive without traffic, and 35 minutes to Pattaya. I bought a Nissan pick-up last year and I love to drive around. The Jpark and Pacific Park are our hang out place. The food court at Pacific Park is pretty good too.

  10.
    1. Paying with a credit card may not allow you to put the condo into farang (your) name as you need an FET form from the bank that converts your transfer into Baht, and as far as I know you will not get one for a credit card payment. OK, maybe you are putting it into your wife's name and so you dont care. If so you are much more trusting than I am, but good luck to you anyway.

    2. Did you really pay money to some sales agent directly without ever getting any sort of correspondence or receipt or contract from the developer? If so, your level of trust is surprising.

Either way, I hope that all the balance is still in your bank account and not someone else's.

    1. I’m going to put condo under my name but the trust between my wife and I are not the issue here. We meet in Honolulu, HI and been happily married since 2005.

The only thing that I could think of is when charging the credit card, I choose Thai baths instead of US dollars, so the bank sees it as a local currency instead of US dollars. If that's the problem, I could ask for a refund for those transactions and charging the same amount to US dollars.

    2. We have a detailed contract, in English and Thai.

  11. Kasikorn.
I don't know. Ask the developer as to which department has rejected your cards as local and go from there. Have they sent you any correspondence confirming that what they are saying has come from Kasikorn?
I have contacts, but with other developers.
So get the paperwork from them stating that Kasikorn is stating that they are Thai cards and then respond to the department listed on the correspondence directly.

Could you PM me the contact with other developers? Maybe they have some experience with this kind of situation.

Thanks for the suggestion. So far I haven't received any corresponding from the developer, all communications are done by line app between the sales representative and my Thai wife. I'll try to talk to the sales directly and work on it.

  13. I’m in a process of buying a condo in Sri Racha area. I paid a total of 840000 Bath using two separate US credit cards back on Jan 18. The condo is ready to be transferred, and the rest of the money already transferred from a foreign bank account.

Now the sales representative for the condo said local bank handle my credit card transactions said my cards are Thai credit cards and won't provide the paperwork.

I provided them with both of my credit card statements and the SMS that shows the transcriptions are an International transaction.

Is there anyone has the same kind of experience? What should I do?

  14. I don’t know how Thai insurance company will handle this. But US insurance company will pay you to fix the small spots as long as smaller than a dollar bill. Before I came to Thailand, my windshield got hit by a small rock on the highway that caused 2 small crack spots next to each other. I went to a windshield repair place in Norfolk, it’s fixed in an hour and the totally cost is $75, and the insurance picks up $70. If the windshield need to be replaced, I would have to pay $1000 deductible.
