  2. Thank you for the info.

Must have been a good size fire.....now 4 days down.

    Thanks again.

This is what happened ,late afternoon(US time) on 31st May 2008

electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost.

We have just been allowed into the building to physically inspect the damage. Early indications are that the short was in a high-volume wire conduit. We were not allowed to activate our backup generator plan based on instructions from the fire department.

This is a significant outage, impacting approximately 9,000 servers and 7,500 customers.

No problem, wasn't a BIG fire but the power had to be shut down, and a few difficultys with the power transformers have occured, if i find out anything new i will post it, hopefully won't be much longer...

and there is a lot more to the U/map forum than US politics and football. :o

  4. There was a small fire at the servers based in the states, and as a result it affected the power to thousands of websites inc udonmap.com, i have read that they are working day and night to rectify the unfortunate problems at the server centre and will soon be back up and running,no time exact time scale has been given, but just keep checking on udonmap.com and it will be back on line soon.

  5. its can be nice to have a chit-chat with "village farangs" it makes a nice change from the usual talk with the local village Thai's. and yes they may be more friendly, but personally i am not over keen on carrots let alone place one up my rear passage :o anyone who likes that sort of thing don't really deserve my nods and smiles...but who am i to judge. and they do say if you have enough of them it my help you see in the dark, and that is one dark area. :D

  6. well i think some like to keep themselves to them selves, and i maybe one of them, but i would never snub someone that said hello to me anywhere in Thailand, but i think now i will make more of an effort to say hello before they say hello to me when i see farangs out and about in the Udon area. So if you see some fool "nodding and Smiling" all over the udon area that might be Me. :o:D

  7. Just wondering how friendly the farangs are in Esarn. Do most of you know your farang neighbors? Do you spend time with them or are most of your friends Thai.

I don't live up there but when I visit I rarely see any foreigners. If I meet one in the market I will usually just say hello. Most foreigners up there seem to be come-and-go people who visit a couple times per year but spend most of their days in the West.

i saw something on another forum regarding other farangs in Udon, and someone said 7 times out of 10 if they said Hello to other farang's in Tesco's or around Town they would be snubbed !! 7 out of 10, !!! seems a bit poor really.

Who knows i may have been one of them. :D

Maybe we all should make more of an effort, good manners cost nothing...... :o

  8. i have done both many times over the last 15 years. I once did it in a loaded up suzuki carribean thats how long ago that was :D it was the worst journey i ever did. but that was many moons ago.

Now its flight to udon then avis at the airport, drive where you want, as fast as you want, and stop when and where you desire or if you are departing from pattaya, avis in pattaya nice drive up in around 7 hours inc toilet stops and stopping at every roadside food stall in sight when the wife is not snorring in the passenger seat anyway, :D any way back to bkk - udon, if you have plenty of time drive, if not fly. the cost is not that much differance the time you have included petrol, if you are on your own fly,if there is 3 or 4 of you drive and share the cost but take a bit of tea money for the boys in brown. :o remember speed kills, and so do poorly lit trucks and on coming buffalo.
