  1. I have a question regarding the average length of time it takes for my Thai wife to get access to my bank account from time of death?

My situation is that I am a US citizen that has a valid Thai will drawn up in Thailand by a reputable law firm. I am leaving all my assets to her. The two main assets is my cash in the Thailand bank and my car. There are also instructions giving my wife permission for cremation and burial in Thailand. My understanding is that a death certificate is required by either the hospital or police if you die outside the hospital.

We are moving shortly to Mukdahan. I want to give my wife the best guidance now so she can get this probated as quickly as possible. She has the will and car book in her possession. Should she hire a local lawyer to expedite the will? Or do this on her own? What are the steps?  So, any suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks in advance

  2. I went to the US embassy last week to get the freedom to marry affidavit. I was divorced in the US and brought my Divorce Decree with me. I checked the box “Divorced” and submitted the affidavit. They did not ask to see my divorce decree and was able to get my affidavit. The embassy affidavit does not ask what country you were divorced in. Where you might need your divorce decree is at the local Amphur. I had mine translated to Thai and they looked at it but they said I didn’t need it. So, just bring it with you to the Amphur in case they want it.

Other Coronavirus aren’t able to cope with high temperatures or humidity and prefer cool, dry conditions to be able to survive outside the host. Whether the novel Coronavirus shares the same characteristics hasn’t been fully established, but it being a Coronavirus points to that.

Another point about temperature and humidity and virus. In cold and dry air when someone coughs/sneezes the expelled droplets stay in the air longer. When the air is more hot and humid the droplets go toward the ground quicker since the air is heavier.

i would like to switch from OA to O as well. On am already on my existing OA extension and do it is due to expire in May. My question is that I have the seasoned 800,000 already but I used TransferWise so I can not prove the it came from out of country. What you recommend I do in that case?

  5. I have a general question using Savannakhet to get an O Marriage visa and the duration it is good for. What are the options regarding duration. I understand that you can get a Multi Entry for a year but must leave Thailand every 90 days. I don’t want to do that. Is there an option to do a shorter duration and then you go to your local immigration office to get long stay O Marriage? If so, what would I request and how many days to you get once you enter Thailand?

  6. I have a general question about the house registration document needed for obtaining a Marriage Visa. I am planning to get married shortly and my girlfriend and I rent a house here in Thailand. My girlfriend and her son were added to the owner’s house book and we submitted it to the amphur and it was processed.
can we submit a copy of this as proof?

Does my girlfriend/wife sign the copy in blue ink?

Does the owner also need to sign this copy and provide a copy of owner id?

  7. yes

You can login to the US Social Security website.
There is a downloadable/printable form called SS verification letter. Also, there is a SS benefits statement and I also saw a payment history form.
I haven’t applied for my first extension, yet. But, I was planning to bring these. Maybe someone can provide guidance if these docs would be acceptable based on their previous experiences.

  8. She is not dumping her son on her daughter. It is only the first step. We need to get the boy away from the grandparents first. It is not a good situation that he is currently in. My girlfriend and I live together in Chiang Mai but will be moving farther south when our lease expires. Once we move and get settled we will have him move in with us next year after the school year is completed. We are trying to minimize the disruption.

  9. My Thai girlfriend has a 5 year old boy from a previous relationship with her ex Thai boyfriend. The boy is currently living in Issan with the ex boyfriend’s parents. The ex is living and working in Bangkok. My girlfriend wants to have her son live with her adult daughter.

She told them her intentions, but they do not want to let her take custody of the boy. My understanding is that in Thailand it is the Thai mother that determines where the child is to reside.

Can anyone provide some guidance on how to move forward? Do we need to get a lawyer. I personally want to keep my distance from the situation but want to provide her guidance and financial assistance if we need to hire an attorney etc.

  10. I just negotiated to get the first year Class 1 insurance included in the purchase of a new car. My question is does the dealer purchase the insurance and I just sign the insurance documents when I pick up the car? Also, does dealer Class 1 insurance include collision coverage?

During the one year of validity of your OA, you get stamp good for another year every time you enter..yes it is multi entry.  Good move getting it at Kalorama.  Did you get the State po!ice clearance or a local one?

I got the criminal background check from the state. I had to request it by mail so that I could get a certified/notarized form. The application instructions stated it needed to be certified original from the state or FBI and I couldn't print it from an online source. I originally went to the county sheriff's office but they only do a local search.

  12. I decided to get my O-A visa in the USA via the Thai Embassy in Washington DC by mail. It only took 1 week to get it approved and mailed back to me. Thanks for all the input.

I just have a follow-up question. On the visa under the No. of Entry it has M listed. I assume it means multiple entry.

I am planning my initial retirement trip to Thailand soon and plan on spending about four months to travel and determine where I want to live. I will then return to the US for two to three months in order to sell my home, car etc.

I will then come back to Thailand to live permanently. Do I need to do anything regarding my visa, contacting Thai immigration, paperwork. etc. so I can re-enter?

  13. I am planning to go to Chiang Mai in October on a 60 day tourist visa and then apply for a retirement visa when I am there.

I just started receiving monthly US social security direct deposits to my bank account in the US two months ago. I plan on using a combination of this monthly income and savings as i am just short of the 65 k bhat monthly requirement.

So, my question is do I just bring a couple months of my US bank statements to show my monthly SS deposits and additional savings?

I also have the original letter for the SS Administration showing the amount to be received and when the payments would be started.

Should this be enough to prove the financial requirement or do I need to do more?

Once I receive my retirement visa, I will be going back to US a couple of times to prepare for my move. Is there any restrictions on going back and forth between US and Thailand?

    Thanks in advance
