  1. We are due to leave Thailand soon and my 90 days were almost up on my Non 0 (Visiting Thai family). Really couldn't be bothered with the day in Cambodia and a whole page of my passport wiped out. Went to Bangkok Immigration and obtained 60 day extension for 1900 Baht.

We got there around 10.30pm, and it was quite busy. Try and download the form before you go (check which one on their website), and get your passport main page, page with visa and departure card copied: Also get photo copies of marriage cert, childs birth cert, spouse ID card and house registration to be safe.

We got our ticket and waited, went for lunch downstairs at noon as everything closed down until 1pm. We got seen about 2.30pm. The officer just asked a couple of questions, when do you plan to leave Thailand etc. Paid the money and was told to wait for the receipt. Waited another 15 mins and was called back in to collect passport with 60 day extension. All very easy apart from the waiting. We did go as a family - wife, son and myself which might have helped ease things through maybe.

    Thanks.

  2. BTW my old model cbr150 will pull 130kph in 5th, you sure you were redlining?

    Not really no. :)

Was probably closer to the point you'd change into 6th than pushing it in 5th. Would guess at about 140+ in 5th when pushed into the red.

My old 150 would do about the same, 125-130 in 5th, then flop a bit when into 6th. (these were of course about 10% positive than the actual speed, dunno if the new 150/250s are).

The feeling and difference in redlining 5th on the old 150 and the new 250 are worlds apart.

THIS IS APPROPRIATE, NOT 'SPOT'. Why/How on Earth am I suddenly logged in as someone else??

  3. You should be able to obtain a 60 days extension of stay from Immigration to visit wife/child. Normal paperwork of marriage and husband and wife.

    Thanks.

Does this have to be done at Bangkok where we are staying currently?

We were thinking of maybe taking a few days break in Hua Hin - could it be done there, or any other Immigration centre?

  4. I've got a Non O which is still valid until Oct.

We were planning to leave Thailand next week but have had to delay things until about the 3rd week in Jan. My 90 days are up 5th Jan.

I'd rather not do a visa run for the sake of a couple of weeks, so can I extend for a short time at Bangkok immigration? I'm married to a Thai and we have a (Thai born) child.

    Thanks.

  5. I've been offered a job in Malaysia. Petaling Jaya (just outside KL) to be exact. My wife is Thai and we have a young son aged 3.

The pay I'm being offered is not fantastic, especially for an expat, but a bit of research has informed me that it will be enough to live OK. (I would like some anecdotal comments on my rate of pay if could pm me?) The work experience itself will be good for my future prospects. I have been over a few times to visit the set up and negotiate contracts etc, and liked Petaling Jaya. I was struck by the leafy cleanliness and lower volume of traffic. Lots of nice places to eat and shop etc. I was advised to live in a condo by my potential employers as it would be safer, so this is something to think about. I realise that it's hard to get a proper feel for a place in the space of a few short visits, but I didn't get any bad vibes. Seemed maybe a little boring, but boring is what I want with a 3 year old.

In theory, the work/family visa process would start in January, so we were thinking of going over there and living in a serviced apartment while we wait. I think we have to be actually out of the country to get the visa stamp/stickers, so will mean a quick trip back to Thailand to get stamps, then back. Can anyone that has applied for a work visa confirm this would be OK?

We are still 'considering' all this as we only just went through the laborious process of getting a settlement visa for my wife in 2009, and not sure about giving this up, my wife really would rather the UK. My take on this is to try Malaysia for a few months, and if we don't like it we get back in time to keep my wifes Uk visa.

    Thanks.

  6. Thanks for the info, as always much appreciated.

    Just one more question:

If we do spend quite a while out of the UK and my wife hasn't got time to complete the required Knowledge courses when we get back, would it then be better or even possible to apply for the FLR, so give us more time to sort things?

  7. My (Thai) wife has been in the UK for 10 months on a settlement visa. I've been offered the chance to finish my research degree working for a company based in Malaysia and Singapore. I would like the three of us, my son (Uk passport), my wife and myself to stay together.

What would happen to my wife's visa if we were all to spend a few months out of the UK?

  8. I was desperate for some English commentary for the Algeria game, so I signed up for a free VPN trial which enabled me to get the 5 live iplayer stream. It was about 5 seconds behind, but at least I got some real passionate, informed English commentary, actually from South Africa, rather than three mumbling plant-pots sat in a studio in Thailand. It was well worth the delay. You can try downloading the highlights from BBC or ITV later if your trial lasts long enough.

Just google VPN free trial and you will find something. It's better than nothing if you can't get out to watch.

I'm off to Gullivers khao san tonight, as they have the game with English, it's the closest to home and we got a babysitter sorted for a couple of hours :)

  9. Have to say this.

When myself, my wife and 2 year old boy left Thailand 6 months ago, we got to immigration/passport control and waited to get through. It was pretty busy and the queue was long. A female officer came over to us and waved us over - she stamped us through quickly and we were on our way. This was obviously because we had a small child with us, but we were grateful.

When we got to Manchester airport, we had to wait for over an hour in a queue, taking turns holding our son (who had just slept for 11 hours so was lively) and dragging our carry on bags through bit by bit. When we got to the end the officer was pretty friendly but just shrugged his shoulders when I asked why everybody had been waiting for so long.

    So, there you go...

  10. Again, I know this has been covered, but in rush with sorting things, so apologies.

I'm in the Uk and will fly to Thailand next week to meet up with my wife and then both fly back with our son.

Our son has a UK passport, but not yet a Thai passport. We will sort the Thai passport when I get there next week.

I really need to book some flights for us from BKK to MAN asap on a good price, and was wondering about our sons passports...?

For the booking we have to put names and passport numbers:

If I put his UK passport info down for the ticket and we use his Thai passport at immigration, would this be OK?

Or, would there be any problem just using his UK passport at Thai immigration?

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Thanks for clearing this up.

I really do find it 'amazing', that when my wife asked the vfs about this, they said that a 'tax' would be charged (but didn't know how much) if she left after a 28 period.

Now, the vfs is THE point of call for most people applying for a visa or info, especially Thais who might feel uncomfortable contacting the embassy direct.

The fact that they gave the wrong information, or didn't even know much about it is just bizarre.

  12. Apologies for repeating this question, but the Thaivisa forum search function just isn't that good.

My wife got her visa, but as it came later than we originally planned we want to keep out son in Thailand for his second birthday.

We have been told by the VFS that his would take us a few days over a 28 days limit in which to travel (although it doesn't actually say anywhere on the visa or letter that we have 28 days), but amazingly the VFS don't know how much the extension is...? And...of course the embassy doesn't/won't take phone enquiries - have to email or fax.

I have to book some flights soon, so need to know asap.

    Anyone out there know?

  13. Congrats to all you guys, and just a quick note for all you long timers like myself, the wife had the baby tonight, little girl we are over the moon now our new life is complete :D:D

Congrats mr n mrs Roly on new baby girl. What name have you choosen? My Mrs is now 30 weeks with a girl too.

Congrats Rolypie - the best is yet to come mate!

I haven't seen my baby son (now 23 months) for over 4 months while waiting for this visa to be issued. It was the toughest time of my life. It's a big chunk out of his life too, so loads of making up time to be done.

I fly out to collect him in a few days - can't wait.... The thought of seeing him and my wife soon makes me feel like I've won the lottery.

Good luck to everybody, and especially to chewy.
