As a foreigner the banks won't give you a credit card and probably not a debit card. Should be able to get a bank account and ATM card almost anywhere. If you're registered at your gf's place she may be putting her name on the account also and be able to access. I'd be highly suspicious.

Try Kasikorn bank. I got a visa credit card with one million baht limit. No sweat.

  2. To get a Schengen visa when in the UK you have to apply in one of the embassies of the Schengen club in London.

    Done this with my wife.

Prepare for a whole day of pain and suffering standing outside in long queues when you eventually get to the front you are not allowed to go in with her for the "interview" to get the free visa.

Your better off applying in Thailand to the embassy of the country you want to visit.

Becuase the Immigration specifically ask you to get a stamp from the Brittish Embassy, any other legal path is useless. You need to personally go to the Brittish Embassy and plead for them to put a stamp on the document. Just because they say something on their website does not necessarily prevent them from having a bit of humanity, understanding, and compassion.

You have not had much experience of embassy staff. Regardless of which embassy for whatever country humanity, understanding and compassion does not exist in their neo-nazi lifestyle. Power crazed dominant egotistical selfish bar stewards them all.

  4. Having had the same issues.

I disagree with the comments about small suppliers not doing the shipping to Thailand.

I've found that if you send an enquiry to the supplier attach a photo that contains your direct e mail address they will contact you and ship directly cutting out Amazon.

You need to attach the photo as if you put your address in the message Amazon filters will block the message and they never get it.

One girl try that when I first come to Thailand, she says she was pregnant,

are you sure I ask,  and she says Yes,

Well, Good luck and have a nice life I say and walk out from the room.

The thing is I can't make any Baby! I turned that off 25 years before ;-)

But I learn how they try to manipulate you, so I move out side of the tourist city's and up the country

to the real Thailand and its real beauty!

    I. Too have had a vasectomy. But still use condoms on every occasion especially with "new" ladies as I'm not stupid enough to risk infection for fun.

  6. Advertise for people like me who are retired and trying to transfer UKP to Thailand. You give me Thai baht I transfer UKP to your account in UK from mine. We split the buy sell rate and don't charge each other commission.

There are hundreds of Brits moving cash to Thailand and paying high transfer fees and lousy exchange rates. I have 5k waiting to move when the rate gets a bit better.

I think it is a mistake to try to list all the jobs that a foreigner cannot do

there's always going to be hybrid jobs in the middle of classifications that raise all kinds of questions

just summarize it by saying ,as many people do ,anything that a Thai can do is prohibited to a farang

You need to qualify that. Anything a Thai can do well or competently is prohibited.

  8. Don't think that having a falang contractor will help. I had a German who could not control his staff hours/ work ( his guys started about 9.30 two hours for lunch and finished early ) or materials supply, (again his guys took all morning to go and get 100 blocks 20 bags of cement etc at a time) he took the advance payment and walked off the job as i refused to pay more.

He also had a subcontractor who i found out he didn't pay so i got him to continue on a mix of dayrate and lump sum jobs. The dayrate i supervised closely. You need to be on-site every day all day.

Even the lump sum work needs close monitoring.

Dayrate was paid weekly in cash, keeps the workers happy knowing they will get paid and a box of beer now and again when work progresses well sets a good tone.

Kick up the arse when it's done badly and make them do it again until it's right.

Carrot and stick in equal amounts.

  9. Had to get a new yellow book yesterday as have just moved house. Local area for Ban Chang. Had to cancel old one in one office and get the new one in a different office as the districts were not the same. However completed in a couple of hours but was told I had to get an ID card which took another ten minutes and 60 baht. Not a problem but this office see's it as compulsory.
