The marriage visa is a pain with a huge amount of paper work every year . With a retirement visa , you can have a Thai non official Amphur marriage and will be free to leave if things don't work out . Don't buy a house , rent , or live in a wife's existing house .
However with a retirement visa you need double the money sitting in the bank not doing anything.
Also you cannot work.
I'm currently on a retirement visa and am getting married to a Thai lady this year and will if I can change to the marriage visa as the additional paperwork is nothing compared with changing from retirement to working and back to retirement visas every time some work is available. Not to mention having to go out of the country to get the business visa which changes to the working visa and another three pages of passport used up.

As a foreigner the banks won't give you a credit card and probably not a debit card. Should be able to get a bank account and ATM card almost anywhere. If you're registered at your gf's place she may be putting her name on the account also and be able to access. I'd be highly suspicious.
Try Kasikorn bank. I got a visa credit card with one million baht limit. No sweat.

Foreigners can own land. Even as small as a couple of Rai. Would happily pay yearly tax just to get it in your own name and not have to set up fictional company or risk it in a Thai name.

To get a Schengen visa when in the UK you have to apply in one of the embassies of the Schengen club in London.
Done this with my wife.
Prepare for a whole day of pain and suffering standing outside in long queues when you eventually get to the front you are not allowed to go in with her for the "interview" to get the free visa.
Your better off applying in Thailand to the embassy of the country you want to visit.

Becuase the Immigration specifically ask you to get a stamp from the Brittish Embassy, any other legal path is useless. You need to personally go to the Brittish Embassy and plead for them to put a stamp on the document. Just because they say something on their website does not necessarily prevent them from having a bit of humanity, understanding, and compassion.
You have not had much experience of embassy staff. Regardless of which embassy for whatever country humanity, understanding and compassion does not exist in their neo-nazi lifestyle. Power crazed dominant egotistical selfish bar stewards them all.

Having had the same issues.
I disagree with the comments about small suppliers not doing the shipping to Thailand.
I've found that if you send an enquiry to the supplier attach a photo that contains your direct e mail address they will contact you and ship directly cutting out Amazon.
You need to attach the photo as if you put your address in the message Amazon filters will block the message and they never get it.

Had to get a new yellow book yesterday as have just moved house. Local area for Ban Chang. Had to cancel old one in one office and get the new one in a different office as the districts were not the same. However completed in a couple of hours but was told I had to get an ID card which took another ten minutes and 60 baht. Not a problem but this office see's it as compulsory.
