I'll call my US bank tonight and hope I can reach the man who is assigned my case.
That's the important part, I doubt the Thai bank will be much help since it's not their card.
Good Luck with it.

Do you have any experience of awareness of any banks not requiring a police report.
Yes, in Thailand and at my US bank. Police report never came up. All funds were restored to my account. And like I mentioned earlier in the thread, the service at my Thai bank was very helpful and professional.
You need to work directly with the bank that issued the card.

thats all well and good but it doesnt stop it happening in the first place !
Exactly. Nothing preventive about it.

But you must report it to the police. Otherwise the bank not gives you any information.
Depends on the bank.

I appreciate and understand what you're saying but after reporting this to the proper authorities, I realize it is a pure file 13 matter to all involved.
I walked into one police station to find it empty except for one officer who had his head tilted back with his mouth open.
The police aren't the proper authorities for getting your funds reenstated. The best they could do is arrest someone.
You need to contact the bank that issued the card ASAP and let them handle it. I'd bet money on you getting some if not all your lost money back.

I know the chances of the thief being caught are between the proverbial slim and none, but I want to do whatever I can to prevent that person (s) from doing a repeat to me or someone else.
Think I'd leave the crime busting to the cops and bankers and focus on getting my funds reimbursed. If it's a US card with a Visa stamp on it you have a very good chance of getting some reimbursement.

Which bank was that?
KrungThai. I left the card in a ATM once and walked out of a restaurant the second time without waiting for the waitress to return it. The restaurant saved the card for me but the one in the ATM gave someone a nice weekend in Pattaya judging from all the charges they rang up.

Thai banks have a bad reputation for not reimbursing losses like that.
Lost my card twice through my own carelessness and my account was drained one of those times. Both times, the bank gave me a list of charges made to my account and asked me to circle any charge I did not make.My account was credited for all charges I had not made. The only charge to me was the 300 baht for a new card. Excellent and professional service both times.
Sounds like someone the OP knew had access to his card and took advantage. A skimmer wouldn't wait around 2 years to collect on his efforts.

no i mean to give them bad press so others dont go there!!!!!
The OP screwed up. There's nothing to give the hotel bad press about without lying. Bad advice to give to someone in a country with anti-defamation laws.

It's called 'skimming'. Somebody puts a device in the ATM card slot that gathers your info. There are a few other methods too. Seems skimming is most common though.

make a report on trip adviser that wont help the business and it will for warn others.
Forewarn others they might lose their rooms if they don't pay for them in advance? Seems obvious to most.

don't understand how a hotel can manage bookings. obviously they want as many guests as possible but if it is possible to check in without a reservation and it is also possible to make a reservation some days in advance. there must be a conflict.
No conflict. Rooms paid for in advance trump some guy paying as he goes. Money in hand always wins out. Only conflict that could arise if a customer offers to pay more for a room already paid for, that would be at the mgr's choosing/risk though.

and so we were planning to stay in the hotel, never before said she the hotel would be full and on the morning of the 30th
But did you pay for the days before she gave you the toss? It's really the only issue.

What hotel lets you pay as you go? It's not a phone service. If you didn't pay for the days you will be staying already then buh bye.
Many. Pay a few days or a week in advance rather than for the whole stay at once. Pretty common practice, especially if you don't have a set itinerary and want to keep some options open. The big question is did the OP make a reservation and pay in advance for the days he's been evicted for. My guess is he didn't.
-
Have you paid up front for your stay or are you paying as you go? If you've already paid for the room in advance, you'd have a case. A small well placed gift could help smooth things out.

New Years, happened to us a couple years ago. The management gave us about a 2 day notice, rooms were aplenty after the 2nd though and we returned. Probably the same situation you're in now. Don't see what going to the MiB would accomplish.

I watched a fat Thai man take off his sweaty shirt and walk around in the restaurant at the golf club one day last week. Not really what I like seeing while trying to enjoy my lunch. Arschlochs belong to all nationalities.
