  1. Dear all (and Ubon Joe),

I've been working in Bangkok for 3 months now and have a work permit and 1 year extension of stay from CW immigration. I started on a non-B visa.

My spouse would like to change her tourist visa to a non-O at CW immigration, however, I am unsure about the following documents as the institution I work at does not seem too sure about how easy it will be to get them.

Are the following documents straightforward to obtain?

    1. A copy of the list of withholding income tax of Thai employees (Form Paw Ngor Dor.1) (for the past 3 months, together with the attached list of all Thai employees, showing the first to the last names, and the receipt)
    2. A copy of the list of withholding income tax of the foreigner (Form Paw Ngor Dor. 91) for the latest year (If you cannot present it, please submit an explanatory letter.) (Attention: Immigration Commissioner)

I've included the list, but as my institution is a private university, I assume some of the 'vocabulary' used and documents required do not apply exactly as specified on the paper?

    Thanks

    JSJ

  2. I never drink cold water because I follow basic principles from traditional Chinese medicine,  which you can look into yourself if you are intelligent enough to realise that most of the repliers on here are so narrow minded that they are incapable of seeing or accepting, or even exploring anything that exists beyond conventional scientific thinking.  I'm a professional chemist,  but my outlook is broader than conventional science - if you ask questions like this on here,  you'll most likely get the typical narrow minded knee-jerk reaction replies that discount everything Asian as hokey or superstition....

  3. Hi all,  I need about 10m of single core copper wire or conduit (about 4-5mm diameter) or even some good copper tape.

Are there any electrical stores (wholesale or DIY) anywhere in Bangkok that will have a range I can look at?

I cant find any such stores anywhere so far.

    Thanks,

    JS.

I completely believe the OP- if he did not sign anything and there is no stamp in his Passport- it is as if it never happened. It appears the IO is covering his tracks a bit- if a complaint issued by the OP- there is no record it ever happened.

The whole issue leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Even though I and others have valid extensions- I take no comfort in the way these things are handled. Thailand just does not feel the same to me as it once did.  there are other, more humane ways for Immigration to handle suspicions or check out people.  Unfortunately, complaining to one's own  embassy does nothing- and if you are from the US- American Immigration is much worse than Thailand.

Right! It leaves a bad taste as it represents a bigger issue that's lurking. And it's happening in the UK and US as well just now. Divergent procedures, random refusals of entry on shaky grounds, poor recourse to any way of overturning things (v expensive and slow) and lastly, general xenophobia about foreigners which is what it's all about IMHO.

That is to apply for the visa, so this check should have already been done to get the visa.  If it wasn't done, that is an issue between Immigration and the MFA - not the OP's fault.

Note that people offering to show amounts in bank-accounts or withdraw the money to show are refused the opportunity to demonstrate they have the money beyond all doubt.  That's not how honest-cops operate - honest-cops want "the truth" and to nail actual "bad guys."

I like honest-cops, and fortunately, most are.  Take the bag-checkers at BTS stations in Bangkok - everyone should always smile and thank them (unlike some who act 'hassled' by it) - they are doing a very important job in helping keep us safe.

Yeah, it should be checked and crossed off at the point of visa application, but with embassies, consulates and immigration points the world over (in the modern age allegedly) having divergent admin procedures, it's like a lottery unless you're Mr Squeaky Clean...

Millions in the bank (that can be taken out with a credit card) are not "money"?

The distinction is just being made 'fuzzy' on the orders of the higher ups - either that or they are 'suspicious' of anything that doesn't fit - what's more of a concern is that it seems obvious that entry can be denied for any reason whatsoever and that there's little recourse if that happens...

  7. I've noticed that more than a few posters are taking the view that this is a farang-centric crackdown with younger folk being refused entry as scapegoats, but is it really focussed on farangs or are other Asians (who will likely not be Thai Visa members) getting similar treatment just now?

P..S. I've never had an issue because I'm on non-Bs + extensions but all those folk who are so quick to criticise 'irregular' tourists or suspicious visa applicants should know that they live in glass houses - when xenophobia fuels immigration restrictions, anyone's a target.

  8. All good tips. I had another look and there is still enough of a groove to get a flat-blade in there. If I had power tools I'd just use a small circular disc to cut a deeper groove for a flathead to go into. If all else fails, I'll just buy a new lid and snap the old one allowing me to get the screw out with pliers. Failing that, I new bike (scooter) might be in order anyway as it's a Fino and is a fairly crap bike!

  9. I was about to check the brake fluid levels on the bike today, but managed to strip one of the screw heads on the reservoir lid (managed to get the other screw out). As this is a general DIY topic really, this seemed like the most appropriate forum group.

Any ideas on the simplest way to get the thing out or off? I would prefer not to have to buy a drill or screw extractor. Any ideas?

I've attached a photo of a similar fluid cap, which shows the screws are flush with the reservoir lid (unfortunately - so pliers won't work).

  10. Flew via Air Asia, DMK, Bangkok to Vientiane (Recommend flying from Swampy instead - traffic to and from Don Muang is a real pain).

Vientiane immigration: fill in Laos arrival/departure card on plane, fill in visa on arrival form before immigration, hand over passport and forms/card, pay $35, collect passport/Laos visa. Proceed to passport control, obtain entry stamp.

Paid for taxi to hotel at desk $7 although the taxi drivers who stand next to the desk may try and strong arm you for $10 as they want to be guaranteed their tip - handle as appropriate...

Booked into Douang Pra Seuth Hotel, 1 night (straight across from Thai consular section).

Photocopied some docs (see list below) in the hotel (1000 Kip per page).

Queued at consulate on Tuesday, 8am. Not busy at all. Went inside, sat in the seated queue, had basic format of documents checked by (who appeared to be) a few Thai University students sitting at a table, and had to fill in their new application form. Stuck on photos (Pritt stick supplied!), proceeded to queue at application submission window, all papers were rapidly checked and acknowledged as being in order and a queue ticket for the following day was issued - done in 30 mins.

Booked into Mali Namphu (quite good value), 50,000 Kip on tuk tuk to the hotel, and relaxed - not much to do in Vientiane unfortunately, but a place to relax.

Next day, back to the consular section by tuk tuk.

Visa pickup is straight forward: be there before 1.30pm, numbers are called, stand in queue, pay 2000 baht,  receive passport and leave - 50,000 Kip again back to hotel. Next day,  7-10 dollars to airport by tuk tuk.

Submitted docs: for private University lecturer:

    Certified Copies:
Passport, Thai exit stamp, Laos visa, Laos entry stamp, Laos departure card, degree certificate, academic transcript.

Certified Originals: employer invitation letter, institution ID card, various other papers all in Thai.

2 passport photos and 2000 baht.

    Quite straightforward!
