I cannot think of anyway they could do it without bypassing various ministerial orders that do not allow for it be done. Even the immigration act would need have a order to do a work around for it to be done.

Thanks for thoughts on this. Do you think perhaps any extension will be provided for non b multi holders in my situation?

Wondering if immigration will allow 90 day border stamps for those on multiple entry visas to be done at immigration offices, it’d be a good solution to an unfortunate problem that some are facing.

Ubonjoe - any thoughts on whether this will be coming? I'm currently on a non b multi (entry expired May, visa valid until December). Wondering wether to wait until the 15th, or head to immigration this week.

You do qualify under the ministerial order issued on April 7th.

It has been extended to July 31st. You can stay until that day without doing anything at immigration.

    Hi UbonJoe,

I too have a multi non-b (90 day entry stamp expires May 13 - Visa expires later this year in December). Just wondering if I'm also covered by the July 31st amnesty?

Hi Ubonjoe, has anything changed to this?

I have a multi reentry non b 90 day, and was told I need to show a work permit next time?

I think the IO thought I was already working here, but Im in the process of applying for a permit, and will be flying in and out a few more times

Is it possible the IO has put a note on the computer that I need show a work permit next time?

You can get a single re-entry permit that will keep the remainder of your 90 day entry from the non-b visa valid when you return form your trip.

Getting a work permit has nothing to do with your permit to stay in the country. After you have a work permit you will need to apply for an extension of stay at immigration,

  6. Hi,

Any recent reports of getting a SETV in KL?

My passport has one from Penang and one Vientiane since last year.

Plus is it possible to drop the passport on the Monday morning, and pick up Thursday....would like to travel around.

If not, is it possible to use agents in KL?

    Thanks,

Tourist visas are about your only choice unless the company you work for could provide the supporting documents needed for a multiple entry non-b visa to be issued at the embassy in London.

Would it be possible to get a non b work visa, given I'm not actually working in Thailand?

When you say tourist visas I assume you mean the actual TRs, and not the 30 day visa exemptions from the airport?

  9. Hi,

I'm currently in Thailand (been here for the best part of 3 years on tourist visas and visa exemptions).

Will start working for UK company that involves flying around SE Asia to meet clients in the banking world.

Thailand is where I'm planning on staying when not flying around SE Asia.

Can anyone advise a suitable visa for my situation.

    I'm 37 from the UK.

    Thanks,

  10. Hi,

Any recent reports on the Mai Sai border for a 30 day visa exempt entry?

This would be my 2nd land crossing of the calendar year, I'm just wondering it's possible to cross in and out on the same day and get 30 days?

Plus any reports of this crossing requesting the usual supporting docs (10k cash, flight out etc)

    Thanks,

  11. Ok great, I have a conference in SG next week for 2 days, I'm not going to have time to get a TR, so I'm going to fly back into Phuket visa exempt.

If questioned next week, I have flights out of Thailand to KL and then onto SG again in June. Can also show them the conference invite as the reason for going SG for 2 days (I.e not doing a visa run).

Fyi my current visa doesn't expire until the 28th May, but I'm not sure that matters once you leave.

You should be able to get a visa in Kuala Lumpur. Your next decision is whether to fly back to Phuket. Over the years, there have been some bad reports. With a visa, flying KL to HKT is probably worth risking. Worst case, you should only be forced back to KL and can make other arrangements. As Jack has explained, a land crossing at Pddang Besar after a train trip is your safe

Ok I'm probably just going to fly into Phuket from SG visa exempt.

I'm only going to SG for 2 days for conference. I can perhaps show the IO my email invite for the conference, plus I will flights booked out to KL, and onward to SG again in June...so I'm clearly a) not working in Thailand b) have plans to be out of the country over the next few months

Anyway I'm sure it will be fine, I'll be smartly dressed in suit....fingers crossed.

If the company you will be working for has customers in Thailand you could possibley get a multiple entry non-b visa that would allow unlimited 90 day entries to the country for a year from the date of issue.

    See: http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en/services/7742/84508-Non-Immigrant-visas.html#2

If not then a multiple entry tourist visa (METV) that allows 60 day entries for 6 months from the date of issue would be a good option.

It wouldn't be visiting clients in Thailand, but rather visiting clients in SE Asia (mainly HK, SG). Company would pay a UK salary into my UK bank account.

My plan is to stay based in Thailand...would the visa options you describe work if I'm making many regular trips in and out if Thailand?

  14. Hi,

Just need some advice on a suitable visa for my situation going forward.

My background is in finance from the UK.

I have been on a career break in Thailand. While here using mainly TR and visa exemptions

Soon I will start work for a UK company that will fly me around SE Asia (HK, SG, etc) to meet clients.

My plan is to stay based in Thailand, and from what I can gather about the potential role will mean I'll be flying around Asia 15 days, while back in Thailand for the remaining 15 days per month on average.

    Regards,

Any reports on what it's like (I.e any reported requirements) to cross Pddang Besar on Visa exempt?

I would not try it.  Even a re-entry on your existing Tourist Visa could be problematic - and Tourist Visa entries are generally safer.  They don't care if you have enough money or are not working illegally, so any evidence you (attempt to) present would likely be ignored (per reports to-date).  They want us longer-term people either gone, or paying them off for some sort of extension-via-agent, or the massive elite-visa payoff.

Have you ever taken the train from Singapore through Malaysia to Thailand?  It is an interesting experience - see a lot you don't see from the highways.  You could also fly to Penang, then train through Pedang Besar (entry-point), then train onward to Surat Thani, then bus to Phuket - or bus from Pedang Besar -> Hat Yai -> Phuket.   If doing this Visa-Exempt, you should have 10K Baht worth of cash (no bank-books or plastic), plus a flight-out in 30-days, plus evidence of where you will be staying (can be an online hotel-booking).  At that entry point, they might consider evidence you have foreign-income - unlike the entry-points that just don't care.

Better to pick up a Tourist Visa along the way, but I am not sure if the visible-history in your passport would allow one at KL or Penang.   If you have a "remark stamp" on a TR Visa ("this person travels to Thailand frequently..."), then forget it.   But if your passport only has a couple Tourist Visas in it, recent reports indicate KL seems to be a bit more friendly than Penang.

It's a new passport (only 1 year old).

It's has 1 TR from Vientiane, and 1 TR from Penang + 1 land crossing at Ranong

Sounds like flying to KL to get a new TR shouldn't pose any problems?

Any advice on how long it takes in to get a TR in KL, plus requirements?

I’d also have a hotel booking or an invitation letter from the person you’re staying with confirming where you’re staying. Have a copy of their ID and Tabian Baan too if possible.

Just out of interest, apart from the person from Poland who was refused entry into Phuket only this March, have you heard if any other people being refused entry into Phuket? Previously I've not heard of many.

And going back to the guy from Poland (which I was reading earlier) I wonder whether it being his first visa exempt entry, while all others were on TR, was the mistake....perhaps it's best to have a mix of visa exempt, TR, some land crossings...or in your opinion does it not matter?

Who knows! The longer you stay as a tourist the higher the chance of getting questioned and or denied entry.

I wouldn’t show the Thai bank book unless absolutely necessary. Tourists don’t need bank accounts. That just underlines you’re living in the country, which is what they are clamping down on.

Thanks so just the 20K plus flight out of the country?

  19. Hi,

I've been staying in Phuket for just over 2 years, and have been using mainly Tourist visas for my stay (Vientiane, Penang, etc)

Next month I'm flying to Singapore for a couple of days on the 12th (my visa doesn't finish until the 28th)

I'm just wondering will I get grief when I enter back into Phuket, even if I can provide the an onward ticket, 20k (plus I have a thai bank book showing transfers in from the UK, as I'm not working in Thailand)...FYI I've never been questioned when entering visa exempt before

Just a little apprehensive as I've not done a visa exempt entry in an airport for almost 10 months.

    Thanks,
