  1. This is a good day for the country, in my opinion. That they finally managed to put a politician in office who is educated and articulate, with a clear passion for developing education in the country, is one of the best things Thailand could hope for. I wish him nothing but success, as he has a huge and difficult job in front of him.

If you hear that banging sound, that was the final nail in Thaksin's coffin. (or was that T's head against the wall, either way...)

A good day indeed. An anti-democratic , monarchist puppet in charge. No doubt the first act will be to repay Bangkok bank for the cost of the demos. The Lady may think she's won, but this may mark the end for her and her son.

  2. Gen. Sonthi welcomes voters' decision

Council for National Security chairman Sonthi Boonyaratkalin welcomed the majority of voters’ decision to accept the military-backed draft charter in Sunday’s national referendum.

He praised voters for being able to make their own political decision and not allowing their votes to be influenced.

“Most of them knew what they wanted. That can be considered as a new chapter for our democratic country,” he said.

More from the Bangkok Post here.

Yea, right. So that's what the 25% hike in military budget was for - to buy votes. Thailand a democracy? Who's kidding whom.

  3. Thaksin cannot return for at least a year: Surayud

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said Sunday that he would not allowed his predecessor Thaksin Shinawatra to return to Thailand for at least a year.

He said Thaksin should wait until a new government is elected in a year before returning to Thailand.

"The best way is that Thaksin should wait until the problems have been solved during the year ahead. When there is an election and a new government, it will be a proper time [for Thaksin to return to Thailand], Surayud said.

Surayud said it was inappropriate to allow Thaksin to return and put him under a house arrest as suggested by former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyud as doing so would be similar to an action of the Burmese military government.

Hopefully they will arrest the corrupt bastard!

    :o

  4. yes you got his idea

    :o

He said he would remain as head of the Thai Rak Thai party he founded and led to an unprecedented election victories.

Wonderful. So he will be the TRT party leader controlling a flunky PM with no political opposition for the next 4 years. I doubt very much will change for the better.

Why not that he accepted that the controversy has split the country and is stepping down for the good of the country.

  5. Anyways let's see where this soap opera leads to next. :o

A much weaker THB hopefully :D

Come on, grow up. He commands a much greater majority than any other leader I can think of, and whether you like it or not, the majority are for him.

He is liked because he is the first one to provide real benefits for the poor in the rural areas. The main reason why he is hated by the Bangkok lot.

  6. BANGKOK: -- Anti-Thaksin demonstrators led by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) gave an ultimatum Tuesday evening that caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra resigns within 48

    Or what ?

Hold up traffic yet again, :o

What a bunch of frustrated goofs...Whatever Thaksin did wrong, they're doing even worst for the country at this point...

    Pathetic...

Is it my imagination, or is this Alliance for Democracy an anti-democratic alliance of those who have failed to be elected, or were thrown out for being corrupt. And of course the academics!
