So is the summary of this thread that you should do both?

1. get a usufruct agreement, at the land office.

2. get a will where you're both the administrator and beneficiary?

and if your wife dies before you, you can continue to live in the house. My only wrinkle is that the land is solely in my wife's name - does that cause an extra problem?

had a really disappointing lunch in barrabs last week. food was bland and ordinary. We had some pork sweet basil and some veg dishes. They were definitely cooked to cater for foreign taste is probably the truth but as an example there was close to 0 basil with the pork. The waitress also listened into our thai/english conversation between me and my thai gf and joined in when we were discussing dishes. It was all a bit odd.

I live up country near Chiang Khong and when we come down to Chiang Rai for a night we use the Hi. It's clean, good aircon and safe, in a nice central location with parking. I recommend it.
