  1. I'll be staying in Thailand and would like to open a Bangkok Bank Savings account for the ease of having an ATM card. I'll be on a Tourist Visa but will NOT have a work permit nor permanent residence.

The Bangkok Bank website (Savings Account (bangkokbank.com) says foreigners can open with "A reference letter issued by an overseas bank where the customer holds an account sent via SWIFT."

I have a WISE account. How would I get that reference letter? Or are there some Bangkok Bank branches where a foreigner can open a Savings Account without that paperwork? Appreciate any advice.

  2. I contracted COVID on Koh Phangan. I was then ordered to do a ten-day isolation by the government hospital here. After completing the ten-day isolation, the hospital issued this certificate attached. Is this certificate sufficient for travel? It says I completed the home isolation but doesn’t use the word “recovered.” Do I need to get another certificate (for example from Dr. Donna at MedConsult)?

    Thanks for your advice

Another way to do it is to purchase an annuity from one of the insurance companies here and see if you can find one that will accommodate your terms.

Thanks Paul. Purchasing an annuity from a Thai insurance company would solve the problem. But I've not found a Thai insurance company that sells annuities. Can you please refer me? Regards

  4. I want to transfer $30,000 USD to a Thai citizen’s baht account in Thailand. But I do NOT want the entire sum to be transferred all at once. Instead, I’m looking for a way to establish an income stream that will AUTOMATICALLY make transfers of $150 USD for two hundred months.

Here’s the reason: Because of cultural and family complications, my beneficiary in Thailand would do better with a “monthly income stream” as opposed to “a lump sum payment.” Once I initiate the transfer, I will not want to cancel or modify it. Also, I want transfers to continue monthly until all $30,000 USD is gone EVEN IF I DIE FIRST.

In essence, I want to buy an annuity for my Thai beneficiary, but I don’t believe annuities are available in Thailand.

Can anyone think of a way to make this happen? Is there a financial product or service that could do this? I know this service would be of interest to other people who want to provide an income stream to close friends or loved ones in Thailand.

    I appreciate any help.

  5.

To travel to Thailand, I need:  “Printed Medical Certificate with a laboratory result indicating that COVID -19 is not detected. The COVID test must be by the RT-PCR method, within 72 hours before departure.”

Any advice on how to time this? I worry that the test results might not be available before my flight leaves (which is just after midnight). How strict is “within 72 hours?” Can I give myself an extra day to just be sure results are back from the lab in time?

PCR Test: The average turnaround time for PCR (Nasal Swab) lab results is currently 5-7 days, but can take longer depending on lab partner and other factors.

    Thanks.

Of course you do. You upload visa (unless enterinh Visa Exempt), passport page and $100k Covid insurance. Once that is approved you upload flight and ASQ bookings.

Thanks for clarifying. I already have the flight and ASQ bookings. But not the visa yet. So I guess I wait until my passport comes back in the mail with the visa stamp, take a picture of that, then submit all the docs.

  7. A couple years ago some friends and I visited a temple school in Rayong called the Mongkol Wittaya School. (http://www.mv.ac.th) This school teaches novice monks who come from families in poverty.

My friends and I spoke with the abbot about volunteering to teach English to the students. After chatting he said: “Let me take you up to the classroom so the students can practice their English with you now.”

I believe there are temple schools for novices from disadvantaged families all over Thailand. Perhaps there is a government ministry or office that supports them? Does anybody know how to find a list of temple schools in Thailand like this? Thanks.
