  3. Thank you for the links. I was hoping there may be someone currently in the Chiang Mai area with an Aquaponic system. I have met the Dutch guys at Take me Home Tomatoes but am still looking to find a current set up. The Rowan Uni article is excellent

  4. xxxarte, We sell worms and wormcast, but not can o worms which is an Australian thing. Here you can make your own "worm bin" using a plastic five drawer set, see attached photo. You can contact us (Penn Worm Farm) by PM or via our website, see my profile for website url, which I am not allowed to put here.

Can the worms you have survive in a 'flood and drain' gravel bed used in aquaponics?

  5. there should be no issue dealing in UK shares from Thailand. I do it myself as do others that i know. The problem can be with the initial a/c opening.

For UK brokers dealing with new overseas customers, esp those who look to open online dealing a/cs, the issue is how do they satisfy the "know your customer" requirements, when they do not have a bona fide UK address. It is easier if you had a relationship with a broker before moving to Thailand and i would guess it would also be easier opening a "full service" a/c where you can actualy talk to someone and get their help as to what you need to do. I know for example Charles Stanley have no problem with overseas based a/cs as long as you can prove an address (say in Thailand) with at least one utility bill. The alternative,as others have said, is to use a proxy UK address.

There is no tax to pay on UK dividends for non residents. CGT is slightly more complex, but effectivly there is no CGT to pay on any gains taken while non-res for shares aquired while non res.

Thank you for a very informative reply... are there any share clubs in Chiang mai.. start one??

  6. No problem- glad to help out.... I still declare a residence in Aussie yet trade the world. Your tax deductions can be very high when you travelling the world trading. As long as you dropping in to chat with Directors. So tax wise not much of an issue unless you plan on 1000% gains. Then they will want their slice of your pie. UK allow more deductions. In reality of you trading all over the place then have a couple of brokers in seperate accounts, even names if wish (Like spouse name) to save on tax. Yet you really need a trusted spouse to spread this out. Not sure how cashed up you are... less than a couple of Mil would not worry about claiming high deduction in UK on any Cap gains.

Naturally consult a tax account in UK for best advice. In know Aussie not UK.

Be careful of the brokers here in Thai whom charge 7% VAT + take tax out automatically- I hear it happen to some and cost them big time. Stick to what you know and whom you know. UK best IMO for you. Claim expenditure here as directly deductions- yet if very cashed up get serious advice.

    Cheers JAY

Thanks all done.... next question... how do i mae a million ($)? lol

  7. Thank you all for your replies

I have one .. cost about 350 .. has a stop mechanism on the handle.. not needed any more.... pop in any evening to Soupasteak on huay Kaew next to Salsa kitchen and i will leave it with Din the barman. if you haven't already found one.

  8. Anyone know a reliable freight forwarder who can handle air freighted exports of food products such as curry paste in bulk quantities? Destination is Canada.

My experience has been that the usual big couriers such as UPS and DHL won't touch this stuff, and that many forwarders don't either.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Send me a PM and I'll give you a phone number for a lady that worked for me for ten years shiping seafood. She's great and will guide you through the process.

    Cheers,

    David

Hi - i am new and am interested in exporting some food items from Thailand to UK. How do i PM you??

  9. will be coming back to Thailand soon, I guess I am in for a new experience.

In Chiang Mai we have been told of two bobms - one a grenade thrown into the mosque at the night bazarre and two at the Tesco lotus hang dong - also recently (uncomfirmed) an explosion at Carefour - does anyone have any news on these events as since the Chiang Mai mail has stopped printing we have no english press!!??

  10. Ordinary games - Premier League, Serie A, La Liga - UBC buys them off ESPN, for example, and they are not expensive comparing to World Cup.

ESPN broadcasts games in the region where English is widely spoken - Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines. Beer Chang's Dosapak bought the rigths for Thailand only.

Sun commentary is ok for background information on teams and players, but you can't follow the game with such a big time delay. Though you can take pride in that you know what's going to happen while chat about half a minute ago developments. Two late Mexican goals were precious as they came out of nothing.

The entire wc is being shown on agila(ku) with english language for every game! Dynastat supply although last night i watched the switzerland match ion english on WE TV !!So it is available - The pub on huay kaew rd is showing most!

  11. Thailand's Songkran water festival death toll continues to rise

    ...but none by drowning. :o

I wouldn't laugh too hard, as there are always a few "floaters" in the klong at the end of the count..

Not specifically related - but when i took my driving test in chiang mai (to reduce the potential fine when stopped!) all i was required to do was to tell the difference between red and green. I passed!!

Maybe there is natural colour blindness; and possibley drivers feel that the helpful white lines on the road are there to guide the driver - the good drivers accurately driving with the white line exactly between the tyres!

  12. Thanks for the explanation about your partner. I can't explain the capital letters thing.

So, you are a UK citizen residing in Thailand, and you are seeking what kind of visa from the UK? Your boyfriend is a Thai living in Thailand, and he's gay, right? By katoey, do you mean (s)he'll show up for the interview wearing female clothes, talking in a high voice and gesturing like a very camp gay man? Is (s)he pre-op?

If your partner has a reguklar income as in salary shown in her bank account and possibly owns property or is a director of a company and you can prove you have known your partner for two years (request copies of emails or any little communicatiosn which ca nbe dated - then no probs! You are absolutely right to be upfront exactly what your relationship is with your partner - they dont like bullshit!

  13. i'd recommend not cooking your veg burgers on the grill, as this will put off more than a few vegetarians..... there was a restaurant i went to in the states that would put a skillet on the grill which was only for cooking veg products. failing that, heat them up in the microwave.

The skillet sounds like a good idea - simple, cheap, pleases everyone. The microwave, in my opinion, is a very bad idea. As was mentioned before, texture is key when it comes to veggie burgers & nothing kills texture like a microwave. No, I want my burger grilled please.

As for recipes/styles, it seems there are 2 schools when it comes to veggie burgers: there are those who like something that somewhat approximates the taste & texture of meat, and there are those who just go for something that tastes good & can be shaped into a patty without falling apart. I can enjoy either but at Mike's I would prefer the former - something like a Boca burger (available in the states). I think for this kind of burger the best base is TVP (textured vegetable protein). Not sure where you can get that in Chiang Mai but seitan, a wheat-based fake meat, & other as yet unidentified (by me) meat substitutes are readily available at veg restaurants in town.

Thank you for your comments which are all helpful - i will make an announcement as soon as we have a product.

  14. I'd eat at Mike's if there was a veggie burger option. I know some people think you have to have a separate grill & everything but I'm not that hardcore. Anyway, I had a couple of burgers there in my former, sinful, meat-eating days. They were good, but the best in my opinion are the onion rings.

Interesting comments - thank you - tell me the requirements to meet the needs of vegetarians who like yourself are not too hardcore - i have tried many products but as yet nothing which is more than bland.
