One of the most dreariest ( that took some spelling ) groups imaginable. I tried to help them with my sarcasm irreverence and wit. Half of half the guys liked my posts but there is a large contingent of oldies who’ve built the house go to big C and all is fine. They mostly probably have no idea of what goes on around them also.

When the group was presented to me a week ago or so  I was getting posts of people posting pics of there better half’s with alot of mutual patting of backs.

I started posting some of the thoughts going round my head that have made me so popular here and all hell broke loose and early not so positive reply to a post of mine was ‘ he doesn’t deserve to be allowed in this group !! ‘ from someone about 3 years from death.

Then i replied to someone who was talking about cleaning some people out comparing him to China, worked out he was the moderator. Got banned a couple days.

I thought a couple of days was lenient as I had had a go at him personally. Anyway I got back on and then the big Boss Falango himself was on the war path. And putting it there that dissent was not to be tolerated and heads of anybody who didn’t agree that Isaan was perfect and getting your house stolen off you would be out.

So I toned it down and laid low. Absolute death boredom. A picture of some Falang in straw hat watering some straw. A post about a squirrel.

Well as one who will always go down fighting I posted a slightly spicy topic about Isaan people always asking my step son about where his Father whe it is non of there business. This got lots of interest. 50/50 saying I was right and the others saying that we are visitors and we should bow to the local.

It got a bit nasty not by me with one guy offering to give me a back handed which I laughed off.

Then realised I was gone. Apparently 33k members but not a post of any interest 🥱

If the DTA doesn't specifically exclude Thailand from taxing that income and/or if the DTA specifically forbids other states from taxing that income (as does the US/Thai DTA in the case of SSc), then Thailand can tax that income.

If that is correct (and I am FAR from being an expert) then I would be double taxed - which obviates the premise of the DTA, right?

  3. I am from the UK, I have pensions (State and SIPP) that I draw down into Thailand. I live permanently in Thailand (i.e. I do not have any home in the UK).

I have read the DTA applicable to the UK (You can find it here: https://www.rd.go.th/english/766.html)

According to this DTA (Article 4, Fiscal Domicile) I am a tax resident of Thailand. That is,  my Contracting State is Thailand.

Now, according to Article 16, 'Dependent personal services', of the DTA, my income (aka my employment) is exercised in the Other Contracting State, which is the UK. Paragraph 1 states that such remuneration may be taxed in the UK. And it most certainly is, of course. Nowhere does it state that I will be taxed in Thailand UNLESS, if I understand paragraph 2 correctly, I live in the UK for up to 183 days in a fiscal year.

I have typed out Article 16 below, with my interpretations on what is meant for Contract State and Other Contracting State as it applies to me.  As far as I can decipher, i am NOT expected to pay tax in Thailand.  However, I WILL be applying for my Taxpayer Identification Number next week, and I will get prepared to submit a Return if necessary.

    Article 16

    Dependent personal services

    1. Subject to the provisions of Articles 19 (Governmental services) and 21 (Teachers), salaries, wages and other similar remuneration derived by a resident of a Contracting State (THAILAND) in respect of an employment (I am including pension here) shall be taxable only in that state unless the employment is exercised in the other Contracting State (UK). If the employment is so exercised, such remuneration as is derived therefrom may be taxed in that other State (UK).
    2. Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (1) of this Article, remuneration derived by a resident of a Contracting State (THAILAND) in respect of an employment exercised in the other Contracting State (UK) shall be taxable only in the first-mentioned State (THAILAND) if:
      1. The recipient is present in the other State (UK) for a period or periods not exceeding in the aggregate 183 days in the fiscal year concerned; and
      2. The remuneration is paid by, or on behalf of, an employer who is not a resident of the other State (UK); and
      3. The remuneration is not borne by a permanent establishment or a fixed base which the employer has in the other State (UK)
    3. Notwithstanding the preceding provisions of this Article, remuneration in respect of an employment exercised aboard a ship or aircraft in international traffic may be taxed in the Contracting State (THAILAND) in which the place of effective management of the enterprise is situated

I do all my searches in the web browser on my PC, much easier and many more details to see on a 55" screen than on a 7" screen.

Like for example open a picture in a review in a separate tab, so you can magnify it. Trust me, you discover more details in a 55" picture.

Then I add orders to the cart, and collect vouchers and place orders on the app.

Couldn't agree more. When I have the choice of a 27" computer screen, or a 7" phone screen, the computer wins every time.  I have no problems with Brave now that I have cleared the cache (thanks zyphodb) and the only time I use the phone is to check messages.

  5. This is weird and as a last resort I'm asking if anyone else has seen this and, ideally, resolved it too.

When trying to view "My Orders" on Lazada using the Brave browser, I see everything BUT my orders!  I mean the page loads, the "My Orders" heading appears, but the actual orders do not.  I have no problem viewing "My returns" or "My Cancellations". Similarly, if I copy and paste the order number into "Track my Order", I can see that order.

I have no problems using Safari, Chrome or Firefox.   The issue persists with Shields UP or DOWN.

How do you avoid getting scammed though? Asked a few on Facebook marketplace and they don’t wanna do cash on delivery. Just upfront payment.

Yeah good question, and to be honest I don't know.  I can understand why a buyer would want to pay COD, and I can understand, to a certain extent why a seller would not want to use that option. I guess it's a case of keep looking until you find one close to go and see...

Use a server in another country and funds deposited to another country bank, then make regular withdrawals in cash.  Don't leave a paper-trail.

Most of all, if the operation may be considered rouge, don't acquire expensive titled properties or assets.

Rent or lease, don't buy titled assets in the countries you are operating a rouge business.

    Rouge?!?  LMAO

  8. You live in Chiang Mai. You have about 1.8m to invest in a small buy-to-let condo. What would be your choice of city in which to invest? You might also be considering Airbnb if you can’t find suitable long-term tenant. Would that affect your choice of location?
You would need to bear in mind transport costs if not in Chiang Mai.

  9. Yes, perhaps "banned" was a bit strong - numbers are being controlled by the government. I have heard back from the HBC and any vets not invited are to come forward and submit their names. If necessary, a 2nd service will be put on.  For those that can't attend, the 11am service will be live on Facebook.

  10. I am posting here with some alarm, as i have just heard a rumour that the British Consul in Chiang Mai is curtailing this year's Remembrance Day Service to small number of invited guests, and that this "private" service will be held in the Foreign Cemetery in Chiang Mai, where it has always been held, and if anyone turns up wishing to pay their respects, they will be turned away.  The reason being cited is Covid, yet last year, in the height of the pandemic and before anyone was vaccinated, there was the usual (and very well supported) service.

The British Embassy in Bangkok appear to have no issues with holding a service - https://www.gov.uk/government/news/british-embassy-bangkok-remembrance-service-at-the-british-club-sunday-14th-november-2021

I have emailed the British Consul in Chiang Mai for confirmation.

Should this turn out to be true, I will be outraged, as I suspect every veteran of any country would be.

Is anyone in Chiang Mai familiar with this story?  Can anyone shed any light on it and more to the point, what could be done if it is true?  I have no wish to disrespect the service that will undoubtedly take place, but being 'banned' from attending is outrageous.
