Way too many wars have happened because people disagree on who's imaginary friend is better. But I do get the concept of some people need something to believe in. I'm all for that. It's once they start thinking it's their right to push their beliefs to others (namely me) that I don't appreciate. As for ghosts I don't know what to say some people need to believe their belief is the strongest so they see made up crap I suppose
-
Not in the slightest. People who believe they see ghosts are off their rocker. Some people need to believe in things that's fine with me just go around telling everyone that's its the truth because its not.......

Knees and elbows Score much higher as well. But I would say no two outcomes ever match. But you could say the same thing about MMA in Brazil

So it is you who is encroaching on their territory and you are surprised that they protect their own area.
LOL pure nonsense! Are you telling me a soi belongs to a dog? SMH this world does not belong to the dogs bud I would bet you're a dog lover and that's awesome. But a soi dog or even an unruly one should know its place. Protecting the home is fine but extending its territory is a no go. I have had big dogs all my life and would not think twice to educating one that thought I was in it's territory.

Why do you assume of "lower" quality? Plenty of good quality power tools available at a "quality" price.
Otherwise just buy cheap tools that can be replaced for a total cost of very little.
I had a Black and Decker junk drill that lasted years.
Black and Decker is junk. The tools I have bought were far from Snap On quality. Maybe I am basing it off the A typical SEA mentality on tools but buy cheap seems to be the go. I like brands that have a life time warranty. So if we compare the types of brands available the typical store is of lower quality

Just remember that that mangy and sickly soi dog can turn out to be a prized family pet if it's hurt. Then the hand comes out for xxx compensation.

If asked bring out the smart phone and ask for Name and Badge number. Was a shake down for a while and once this was asked they quite often just left you alone. If you check back a high ranking official was the one to state to do this.

Nonthaburi seems to be booming.

The new 4 year professional VISA seems like it will answer lots of the immigration problems for a select few. Looking forward to when that one kicks in. Owning land in Thailand would be nice but I agree with Berk the proverbial shat storm of everyone buying up Thailand would be horrible. Gas prices might jump a bit due to the oil finally climbing to +/- $67 and the tension in Iran will only seem to make it climb more.

I guess to sum up what I was trying to say about vehicle laws is that Thailand ranks 73rd for cars per 1000 people at 206. And ranks second in the world in accidents per capita.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_vehicles_per_capita Source on the vehicles per 1000
Source on the vehicular deaths per capita.
Wishing the best to everyone in the new year and remember the road is a dangerous place

The basic issue isn't in testing, or the need for re-testing. It is in enforcement. People follow traffic laws because of the consequences of not following them and the reasonably high probability of getting caught.
In Thailand there is a very good chance you won't get caught because there are no formal road patrols, just road blocks. If you do get caught there is a nominal payment for almost everything.
In most western countries, people follow the traffic laws because there are major consequences. Just drive drunk in most countries and see what happens. Go ahead and speed. Not only is it a hefty fine, but the insurance rates go up, etc., etc.
I agree. That's why the line of people in violation having to be re tested. There will be some who drive very well so a blanket law re testing everyone would not work. But it's my one wish just trying to imagine it coming true brings a smile to my face

If you could make one wish. Any wish for the country and people living here for the new year what would it be? Lets keep it civil but I think everyone has a different idea for the " Perfect Thailand " lets see what this brings up.
1 - My one wish would be tougher rules on getting a drivers licence and pushing traffic laws to include making people found offending major traffic laws having to be re tested. I love Thailand but after looking at the road reports from this holiday season it was horrible. SO fixing traffic I am placing above the easier immigration rules.

I have bought some small property in Bangkok and now I want to make some carpentry there.
I have a lot of tools at my home in Sweden and was thinking why buy new in Thailand if I can bring some from home.
So I wonder if that is allowed? I am thinking of some basic tools like screwdrivers, drilling machine (not with battery), hammer, wrench, nippers and similar.
Is there a problem in bringing that in to Thailand in the custom?
If those are the items you are thinking to bring in then just buy them. They will likely be of lower quality but the cost will be lower as well. The customs lottery could cost you much more, if you were looking at larger high cost or speciality items then shipping would be the way to go. Just my thoughts anyway either way if you try to ship them good luck and hope you get the right agent appraising!

NYE offshore. Work takes the fun outta life. To answer the question no, I would not drink and drive. Living in Bangkok/Nonthaburi area its way to easy to get a cab/grab/uber.

Can't see this one working at all. If you think about the people who have SIM cards and from the looks of the last paragraph trying to get them all to register by October would alone be a logistical nightmare. And lets be honest if some one wanted to not have theirs registered you have just opened up a new black-market SIM card opportunity. I am agreeing with ukrules on this not long till rollback. I would hate to think the 12million cards in use in BKK trying to be back registered.

Maybe I am just mildly confused but the first sentence in the OP was on why people post on TV after they leave Thailand. All I got from the rest was a not so thinly veiled attempt to put Thailand down and how far superior the American way of life it. Followed by attacking people who were for all purposes comparing (some in good ways) where you live now and where you lived.
So after getting all of that let me be the first to say. Find a Florida forum as no one will miss you.

Admin / mods, please close this topic before it takes the wrong turning.
The necessary steps have been taken.
Before you do....
Nancy - your response was offensive and loaded with assumptions.
You were not there - shame on you to load the scenario.
You only criticised the original post and offered no useful Information , again, shame on you.
My conscience is very clear, how about yours after your midnight Gin fuelled retort ? - again, shame on you.
PM me, I could put your odd skills to use.
Swissie - another bizarre attack on an innocent original post, you offered no useful advice and appear to endorse this type of tourism.
I have been coming here longer than you have lad - you also assume much in your post - all totally wrong, we are not all floating in the jetsom.
You have a very low opinion of your fellow TV posters, or is it that you are much better than them ?
How's that for an assumption...
And shame on you for not tipping..... Seriously its the holidays and maybe people are trying to make a few extra bucks. You're acting kinda uppity and / upset. If it bothers you I am sure a trip to see the BiB would sort out your problem. If you fear human trafficking there are other places you can go as well.

Anger I sense. Was funny to joke about last month at the Irish Chamber golf tournament at Royal. Guess some are past bitter old wounds

One thing that I did not mention , partners father in & out of hospital and suffering in pain in his bedroom alone . His wife even went to the casino on 2 consecutive days saying he is OK . He cannot eat food , only drink a little soup and often sick . There has not been many visitors to see him 2 or 3 at the most . His other daughter has not been there and the son although only 30 minutes away , was there 1 week ago . I lost my temper which I rarely do and shouted that the family do not take care and that he should be in hospital in ICU .That night the wife stayed with him and nursed him out of embarrassment I think . The next day was when my partner told me she was scared as the family could not afford to pay for the cremation and that it will cost 200-250,000 baht followed by many tears . I told her I was disgusted with the way the family treated the father who was dying from cancer and in pain and the time to spend money was now in the ICU and morphine injections and not consider the funeral at this time . I decided to go away for a few days alone and now I have received pictures of the father in hospital , however the alarm bells are still ringing ref; the cremation bill , maybe time to get out of Dodge as there have been other mentions of money for other causes despite the fact that partner receives good support from me .
When things seem fishy it's likely because they are. Follow your gut feeling and remember the question lots asked in posts. If you were not there how would they pay? Either time to make a move on as you suggested or to gather the family and discuss this in a group. The later will likely make people feel un easy as they will feel pressure on future planning. Ask the figured cost. Then if its 200K plus offer to pay what you are comfortable with paying. If the reaction is poor to this go back to the first plan of leaving. Either way don't let people pressure you into doing what you don't feel you must. Wish you the best man.
