  1. Thanks, so far this confirms my observations.

I just thought I'd get a second opinion before plunging into unsafe practices regarding all the strange and wonderful foodstuff. :D

Man, Thaifood got my taste-buds excited, even some of the extremely hot curries. Mind you, some of the intestines and things are just plain weird, fancy chewing on a spleen tube while sipping some Sangsom?

So the meat isn't controlled, better stick to nice BBQs and fry-ups!

What about other animals, in my girlie's home village you'd find almost everything that moves at some time or other, from field-rats to squirrels and boar, some folks even eat dogs, apparently it's cheap and tastes like chicken.

I wonder where they get them from, those strays don't look very healthy...

Thailand has been a continual rollercoaster of flavours and images, but the new visa regulations force me to go back home, just as well, better scrape some money together, it's a bit embarassing accepting all the Thai hospitality and not being able to reciprocate without creating a big hole in my budget.

Alright, next time I'll be sprangled during a night out, I'll let someone buy a bag of bugs for me to get my teeth into! :o

  2. Just wondering what food in Thailand are safe to eat.

On my 2nd extended visit now, and no probs so far, but I've been cautious.

I know the basics like drink only bottled water and cooked food. But I had some rainwater at my girl's parents, they told me afer I drnk it...

woh, they collect it themselves, talk about back to the roots and connecting with nature, man, I love that aspect of Thai culture!

Are there any health inspectors in Thailand? I mean like for the meat sold in the markets, for example, is that tested and approved? They even eat it raw, chopped with plenty of chili and spices to sesinfect it.

And what about more exotic food? I've seen carts in the evening selling bugs, fried beetles and grasshoppers, i haven't worked up the courage to try yet! I can't imagine this is regulated. How do they get them - I hope not by spraying insecticides?

  3. In Korea dog meat id highly valued and sought after - weird, man, but if you think about it, why not.

I think it is eaten in parts of Thailand, too. That's a good way of putting some meat on the table for the poor who cannot effort to feed the family frequently with beef or pork.

These strays which don't belong to anyone are fair game, a charity or government organisation could test them for health quality and then pass them on at cost. If you release the dogs after neutering, they'd continue their miserable existence and still be a hazard chasing people and school schildren in the streets, not to mention the health risks from their turds.

Killing them is the humane solution, and their life will not have been in vain, providing food is a way of honoring them, instead of burning or dumping the carcasses.

A practical and satisfying solution all around, may look a bit far out, but it's cool, if we can put aside our cultural prejudices aand upbringing as Westerners.

  4. This thread is so typical farang. A farang gets shafted and everyone gets together so scheme insidious internet revenge plans. (avoiding direct confrontation naturally)

The guy knew you were a pushover and he cashed in on it.

Either you pay up or you go the distance.

You will never get any respect from the Thai <deleted> that way.

Sooo true, I've seen farngs being pushovers, too.

"Avoiding confrontation" is supposed to be one of these deplorable Thai traits, isn't it? :o

    :D :D

  5. Force their hand and make them speak english (you are the one that is paying) or make them speak Thai to you (if you can speak Thai).
I don't think you could make anyone speak English if they can't, dude, and no need to 'make' them speak Thai, Thais do so anyway. :D
I have ALWAYS found I achieve more on my own (I do speak pretty good Thai if the need arises) than if you have a subservaint female to negotiate.

Thais are pre-conditioned to believe anything that another (percieved higher in class) Thai says to them. Women especially are bad negotiators since any man is higher (generally).

Oh man, you know so little. :o
  6. A strong economy was attracting economic immigrants - but also encouraging Brits to broaden their opportunities.

"Britain is truly at the crossroads of the global movement of people," said Dr Sriskandarajah.

"Two-thirds of Britons who leave do so to seek employment abroad - and are replaced by skilled professionals from elsewhere in the world.

Plenty of spin on this report and even a cracking joke, (in bold print).

No mention of the real reasons that Brits are leaving, only that they are looking for opportunities and broadening their horizons.

It also reads like an advert for more immigrants to go to the UK.

In the UK since the 80's the governments unwritten policy has been if you don't like what we do, leave, we won't stop you,

then they get in foreigners that with a bit of help, time and indoctrination are happy to support the government at the elections, the opening up of eastern europe has meant that western european countries have been able change their demographic even more rapidly, much to the detriment of their native citizens, yes Britain is truly at the crossroads of the global movement of people because they are the worst offenders.

The rising numbers only highlight how bad conditions are becoming in the UK.

Read it again slowly and read between the lines, this is a report sanctioned by the BBC after all.

and how would you know what the real reasons of anyone are, dude? :o

    BBC is cool. :D

  7. most whities have a heap of money to spend so they dont need a reason to be here as its obvious what they are doing.

africans dont have a lot of money and generally are not classed as tourist's so they look sussed hanging around.

    What racist drivel :D

Pls cdnvic, why do you keep catergorizing things into racism? But fail to see when there really is racism?

What terry had said has nothing to do with racism. Simply pointing out differences between races is not racism.

If I say chinese are smaller than blacks, am I being racist?

    :o

Saying chinese are smaller than blacks is not a negative presumption nor denigrating on the basis of race, it's a comment regarding physical feature.

Terry's statements "..dont have a lot of money", "not classed as tourists" are negative, based on assumption rather than facts and, combined with the equally unfactual claims about "whities", imply judgement and affirm stereotypes as prejudice.

Very uncool, it creates suffering. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism

travel 2003's comment is not racist drivel, it reports what police alledgedly do and why, at the same time emphasising how it affects "decent people". Stories like this can easily be used to make racist remarks and affirm stereotypes, dudes like Terry frequently do so.

So, you're wrong, back to the drawing board. :D

  8. F

Let's begin with the good old-fashioned upcountry family. Even before a toddler can walk and talk, his delirious daddy on his unlicensed motorbike is already showing off to him, his amazing driving skills. Approaching the traffic lights with half the family packed on the back like a row of squashed sardines, he shoots left, then right, and takes a dare-devil U-turn. Toddler is thrilled at how daddy can save precious time swerving around the traffic laws without having to wait 60 seconds at the lights. Then, on approaching a police box, Toddler is again amazed at the way Daddy, like magic, one-handedly grabs his helmet in the front basket and quickly sticks it on his head like a clumsy construction worker.

Anything wrong with doing it this way? Good luck to the dude, don't listen to some stuck-up coppers and anally retentive authorities, or the land of smiles will turn into the land of frowns, as most our homelands have already!

    :o

  9. Problem is, as in my gf's family: they are in debt to their eyeballs already, banks, the village cooperative, you name it. The last resort is to hand landtitles over to moneylenders.

They are not wasteful people, good-hearted guys who live by the Buddhist precepts, a lot can be learned from them (except for one of the granuncle's alc problem) Small scale farming just isn't profitable enough to provide the small luxuries in life and see the kids through education.

My gf, as she's finished university, is paying monthly installments for the family, that seems normal in Thailand. Good karma for her future.

  10. Second - What else do you have to offer besides money and lots of leisure times?

Whatsup? What else could a Thai woman want?.....................perhaps more money.

Yeh it should read; What else do you have to offer besides money and lots more money?

You cant buy anything with leisure time and it is therefore useless to a Thai woman.

    :D:D:o

Oh dear, can't pull one of those lovely Thai chicks without flashing money about?

Someit wrong here, dude, I got a charming young ladyfriendwho earns more money than me (she thinks), works at a travel agent and is a tourist guide. And I am only average looking for a 26 year old, but I am very relaaaxed. :D

  11. not sure either troll or maybe natural stupid?
    Who, udon? - never! :D
Excuse me. If she is really serious about a legal divorce, she'll work out a way to do it. In this case, she seems like she wants to hang on to it for something else... like a double deal - something from the current husband and something else from the bf.

    Talk about being greedy.

If she had told the OP that she's still legally tied to the husband, do you think the OP would have stayed on? Why not check how many had been in his place by this very woman?

Someone hasn't divorced after a seperation, and all these assumptions about her motives - wowwww! :o

That is a bad trip you're on, girly, relax, float and let some positive thoughts come to you. :D

    Life is beautiful. :D

  12. Sluts- or whore-ville is about right.

I mean, what do you think you'll find in a Gogo on Soi Cowboy charging 140 for a small Heini? :D

Sexpats- or sex-tourist-ville would be a fair enough description, but it's more convenient to point at the gals who work there for you guys... :o

Still, cool place, cool girls, cool vibes all around! :D

  13. Enyhoos, just to answer a questioon for the romantic lover-dude:

After a lengthy seperation like this, the gal can get a divorce if she wants to, then you'll be the new guy and all will be happy - with a bit of luck and a little compensation to the hubby.

She'll have to pay a lawyer to push it through, which is most likely why she hasn't done it yet - I know a Thai wimman in that situation, we ask a lawyer already, and I'm gonna lay down the dosh for the thing once I'll be sure I wanna stay with her.

    Cool. :o

  14. This is absoutely disgraceful!

Aside from the extreme cruelty that killing dogs for meat involves, eaters of dog meat risk ingesting all sorts of nasties and diseases from eating dog meat.

It is doubtful to say the least, that these dogs are being bread specifically in captivity for dog meat & most people don't even like to touch a 'soi dog' but are willing to eat one!?!? Can you imagine the risks unthinking people are running!

Do people even imagine that dogs are killed in anything even approaching a humane way & in sanitory conditions?

Hey,hey, what cruelty is involved in killing dogs? they kill them the same way as pigs, club them on the head and asta-la-vista, baby. May take a few strokes, though.

What diseases could one get from eating dog meat? I always eat it cooked and make sure it isn't some neglected soi-dog. Cheap, deliciiious meat - bbq is far out, with curries you loose some of the unique flavor, and get all sorts of innerts, bones and uncool stuff in it.

Relax and give it a try, brother. :o

  15. Ah, Tom Austin his name was, just had another look in the closed thread.

A slightly unbalanced character, I'd say, sort of obsessive and short tempered, by no means anything out of the usual.

Meditation would greatly benefit his personality as well as ease some of the problems he will encounter on his quest for info.

  16. You know, just under one's name, Chownah, there is an avatar, if you have one - some far out ones here, some boring as f#ck - however 'the guy doesn't have one, but allow your eyes to wander a little further down, in your and tfa1957's case beyond the blank space with no avatar, and voila - hey man, this is magic: for you it reads " Platinum Member Group: Advanced Members", wow, now try the same for the guy who wants to know how much a pouch of salt and piece of string cost. :D:o:D

  17. Did that make you feel like a big man?

    PS Can you spell?

    Uhhh, that's a "flame", for sure. :D

The guy was sharing an observation of his, man.

Good karma for him, bad one for you. :o
