Tourist won’t come so we won’t let them! 

I did read about that and considered it, but the ability of obtain a work permit and possibly start our own business over there has made me think otherwise.  

I am sure this question has been asked a lot in here and trying to search through all of the forums to find the answer is very time consuming.  I have also been trying to so some research online but get a lot of mixed information or the situation is different than mine.  

I will start by saying that I am a US Citizen living in the USA with my wife who  is a Thai National.  We have one Son together.   My wife came to the US 4 years ago on a K-1 Visa  and is now a permanent resident .   I am very close to retiring on my second job and with that, we have been thinking very seriously about returning to Thailand and live permanently.   

My question is, what is the process and and requirements these days?   All of the research I have found on the internet pretty much just talks about Getting a Marriage Visa with a Thai National that already lives in Thailand.  Of course when we apply we won't have a permanent address right away.  My wife and I were married in the US and don't have a Thai marriage certificate.   Just simple differences like that have made my search for information a little difficult. 

I did go to the Thai embassy in Chicago a while back and they were NOT very helpful at all (Maybe I was interrupting their lunch break)  which made me a little nervous about the process.  If there is anyone out there that has experienced this process or has a good working knowledge, I would appreciate any information, tips or suggestions you could share.   Thanks
