I was going to Laos and I missed a fligt from Suvarnabhumi to Udonthani. Checked in and waiting to board the plane in the departure hall. They started to board the plane, elderly and children first and from the speakers I heard that the plane was delayed. Unfortuneately what I realised after 45 min was that it wasnt my flight but another one to Phuket that was delayed. Everyone still in the departure hall except 2 ppl, me and my gf was going to Phuket... It was the last day of my visa and no more flights that day.

I need help. I can't get the Internet to work on my computer. its working on my phone, I have tested on 2 phones with 2 different sim cards and they are getting connected. I have used GPRS Internet on my computers many times without any problems, I'm connecting with Bluetooth.
I get connected with the computer and getting packages but I can't connect to any servers. I'm using AIS. Its strange because I haven't changed anything since the last time I was using it. Any ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks.

Suggest you try the opendns link that cdnvic posted above - it has sorted most of my problems re. slow lookups => slow loading.
Re. your VPN tunnel, if you are tunnelling to another computer within Thailand it won't help (Youtube is still banned and it isn't a DNS problem).
I'm using a tunnel in Europe with 128bits encryption.

As I was not even able to access my internet banking website today because the poor international internet connections today i did the following thing:
i setup a vpn connection whit a friends router back in my home country (Holland) and now the connection is a bit slower of course but i am able to access all websites also youtube because i am using my friends dutch gateway.
I know not everyone has a friend back home whit a vpn open for them but the ones who do might be happy whit this trick.
I'm also using a vpn tunnel but youtube wont work anyawy. Do you know what settings needed for it to work?

I got the visa, smooth as silk. No problem at all.
Congratulations
Did ou get a TV (single entry ? ) in Vientiane as planned ?
Yes I did get a single entry Tourist Visa. I just asumed that they didnt give two or three entry so I forgot to check for it.
No problem at the border, no counting days or any comments.

My plan was to stay 5-6 months (traveling asia, most in Thailand) but I liked it and decided to stay a little longer. The reason I used toursit visa is because I think it's crazy to do a borderrun every 30 days, the 90 days I get is ok and after that I want to travel some.
What options do I have? As the situation is now I dont want to invest any money here, I wont marry a thai, I dont think I want to start a business here and it's about 25 years before I can get a retire visa. I have been in contact with a lawyer about starting a business, but he advised me to apply for a B visa.
Next time I go to Europe I'll apply for the visa...maybe I'll start some kind of business in the future.

done the ride to Nong Khai 2 times and both times a little bit late, not more then 1 hour.
If you have a Laos visa already, photos and copy of your passport you should be able to get to the Embassy in time even if the train is 1 hour late.
But I'd go for the extra day or the ~6am flight to Udon.

Have same problem, "great" download, approx 80kb/s speed for 1-2 days and then 1-2kb/s
Can't believe what I'm saying....2 years ago if I had 800kb/s I'd be climbing the walls in frustration. Switch from 100mbit fiber to 2mbit adsl...
Do anyone know how I can find out what router my ISP is using? I'm not sure what the network looks like but I think all connections in my condocomplex goes thru a main server in the building ( ?? ).

I agree to some parts.
I'm only good for Thailand so in a way it's sad but if I wouldnt "profit", in different levels, I wouldnt go thru with the hassle. There are other options I know that but I have my reasons to stay here.

I don't think I'd upset anyone. I think there were more ppl that got that stamp at that time.
I'm getting a new passport next time I go back to Europe so I just need 60-90 days, a tourist visa would be perfect.
-
Ok, thanks for the info. I really don't need a visa a 30 day stamp is ok.
It seems to be mixed reports on how they apply the rules, if they count days on tourist visa or not. Please feel free to share your recent experiences.
Thanks for all the help I'm getting from you guys!

Since last 1½ years I have 5 tourist visas in my passport, 1 from Stockholm, 2 from Malaysia, KL, Penang and 2 from Laos, both in Vientiane.
(Stockholm, Vientiane, Penang, Vientiane, KL)
Last time I went to Vientiane they stamped my passport with this:
That was just before the new visa rules, 15 sept 2006. I went to KL 3 months ago and got a visa without a problem. Since the new rules I just left the country one time, and have no 30 day stamps in my passport.
What are my chances of getting a visa in Vientiane this time? According to the rules I should be allowed to get a 30 day stamp right??
I've read alot but it seem to be different experiences, like someone who wasnt allowed back, not even a 7 day stamp!?
Anyone with the same red stamp as me? What are your experiences?

I had 1 day overstay, went to Immigration (Suan Pluh) sat 24th feb. Pretty much same procedure as phitsanulok. I can recomend go to Immigration on a saturday, it took me about 20min to extend my Tourist Visa even thoght I had to run across the street to get copy the passport. I'm not sure they handle all types of visas and what time they close so it's could be a good idea to call them before you go there.
-
If the train is on time, you have all papers ready and Laos visa you'll probably make it. I wouldnt recomend the train though, not really comfortable and the money you save is not worth it. But if youve done the ride before and know what to expect and are ok with that.

When she go from Laos to Thailand she need a stamp in her passport that says it's ok for her to leave the country (I think..) and as I understand this is just to show the Lao immigration at the border the her trip is approved (!?). She give the passport to an agent and next day she collects it with the stamp. This time when she enter Thailand there will be no Lao immigration so she'll be stamped 30 days, is this correct?
Are you sure the 90 days of 180 apply to Lao citizen? I have not seen anything that says they should be excempted from the rule, but she doesnt think it'll be a problem...she have entered Thailand 5-6 times from Oct1 and there are no marks in her passport. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Anyone know the rules for Lao citizens? I'm now in Thailand with my Lao gf and tomorrow we're going to KL, Malaysia. With the information I have there's no problem for her to get into Malaysia, but what will happen when we're going back to Thailand?
I'm not sure what rules there are for Lao ppl, I know each time she's going to Thailand for 30 days she has to apply for some kind of Visa (I have no idea what kind and why). She have one TV in her passport and she says she cant have more from the Thai consulate in Vientiane. She doesnt need a long visa because she's going back to Laos maybe in a week when coming back from Malaysia.
If someone clearify the rules for Lao citizens going to Thailand I'd be happy.

I'm using 1-2CALL GPRS when I'm travelling in Thailand. Decent speed, you can surf the web, send email use msn and stuff like that with no problem. If youre gonna use it don't forget to prebuy hours, dial *138 or *139 don't remember.
-
I went there 14/9/06 and the agent didnt fill out the form for Lao visa as they usually do. So this isnt new after 1/10.
-
I read somewhere that the Laos border to Nong Khai is closed. Anyone know if it's true. I'm in Laos and was planning to go back to Thailand tomorrow.
-
Is all mobile networks closed? I'm online with one-2-call (AIS Thailand) gprs in Vientiane, Laos...dont know if I dare to close the connection maybe I wont be able to get online again. All english spoken news channels are offline here also.
