Not many tourists take advantage of coming in rainy season. It's my favorite time of year here. Have fun.

    Any connection there?

Also my favorite time of the year.

Let it rain, rain, rain on me (The Who) :o

Love, Reign o'er me, Rain on me. The Who

ps. Chiang Mai is fun in rainy season, dont forget ya brolly?

    Hi!

Thanks for all your responses and the links.

I like the rainy season in Thailand, so not an issue.

  2. I'm thinking of spending July and August in Chiangmai. I want to get a feel for what it would be like to live there full-time. What I'm really wondering is how easy it is to get a social life going. Are their clubs, associations to join? Are golf lessons available?

I'm single, female, and in my late 40's. I'm not looking for romance. I'm simply interested in meeting people for social activities.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Many thanks for all who have responded to my question. Sorry for being slow to respond here. It's the end of the uni year here in Korea, so things are busy.

At the moment I am looking at a number of freelance contracts. If one of two of them come through I may not have to worry about teaching should I come to Thailand.

Everyone has give me lots to think about. I am out of Korea for the summer, and will be considering my move in September.

    Enjoy!

  4. What can I expect employment wise if I make the move?

Qualifications: B.A., M.A. (Applied Linguistics), TEFL Cert

Employment History: 5+ years teaching in Korea. I have taught kids, adults, and am currently teaching at a university. Prior to getting into the teaching field I was in sales........and worked for two major worldwide bookpublishers, and a Fortune 100 company (Amex to be exact).

I am also published. I am the co-author of the book "Developing Skills for the TOEFL iBT (pubished 2006, Compass Publishing).

As much as I want to relocate to Thailand, I do not want to work for nothing.

Any thoughts on what might be available to me would be most appreciated.

  5. I'm a female expat (Canadian), currently working in Korea. I've been in Asia for 5+ years and travel to Thailand regularly. My goal is to end up in Thailand within the next couple of years. I'll probably have to work at something, so am interested in hearing other female success stories on moving to the LOS.

  6. I've been living and working in Korea for the past 5+ years. I travel to Thailand on a regular basis, and have made the decision that I want to move there. I know that living in a place is totally different from living there on a full-time basis. but I have visited enough over the years to know that this is not a whim.

The one thing that is stopping me from moving right now is money. Although I am well qualified I get the impression from everything I read that well paying jobs are hard to find. I make a good living here as a university English lecturer, and I know I don't want to work as a teacher in Thailand for peanuts. That being said:

Are there any females here who are in Thailand, working, and making a good living? Are you working for an employer or yourself? What are you doing?

Any thoughts on where the best place in Thailand is for a single woman to settle down? I know I would like to live somewhere with an established expat community, and good social network.

Although I have signed on for another teaching year here in Korea, I want this to be my last year here.

All comments and suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance!
