So BKK is going to be out until 2022 by the looks of things.
I can see the Phuket sandbox working as its an island and can be monitored re people leaving.
However, lets take Pattaya for example.
I have a thai phone and Aussie number.
I arrive at BKK, down load required app on my thai phone.
Travel to Pattaya and check in to my Patts hotel which i have booked for 14 days.
After about 10 days, i say to myself, i want to go to BKK for a few days. Leave thai phone in hotel room in Patts.
Get my taxi driver to driver me to Bkk and check into hotel for 2 or 3 nights in BKK.
Plenty of ways out of Chonburi to get to Bangkok.
So the Thai authorities think im in Pattaya as my phone is siting in Avani Pattaya but im at Landmark Hotel in BKK and heading to Nana Plaza.
I see some problems with that,

I think your bigger worry is Australia letting you out. And if they do let you out, might want you to Quarantine when you return.
If the current vaccination rate in Australia continues, us Aussies aint going anywhere until next year.
The vaccination program in this country is worse than Thailands.

Is this a highly diluted version of what might actually happen?
No quarantine at all in Phuket from 1st July for vaccinated travellers? Free to travel anywhere from day one? No Covid tests? No restriction on nationalities?
Let's wait and see.
im sure their are restrictions on nationalities.

They are expecting 920,000 doses of the vaccine. The target date is 1st July opening so that means 10,222 shots needed to be administered daily from tomorrow. Lets see................

"If the scheme in Phuket proves successful, quarantine will be scrapped in other popular tourist destinations throughout Thailand, namely Chiang Mai, Krabi, Pattaya, Phang Na and Koh Samui from 1 October."
truth be told i would prefer the option of Quarantine in BKK for 7 nights and then being able to travel anywhere in the country i wanted to.

You cannot trust people coming in from different countries not knowing their previous travels or contacts.. the quarantine must stay in place at Thai borders, until 100% of Thais & travelers have had inoculations.

More about : Foreigners The Government seems to obsess over this word.
No vacationers are coming. Especially if you keep calling people: "Them".
Im going to take a guess that no one in the Tourist Ministry is reading European, America's, or Asian International Newspapers?
Lock down, unemployment, and 3rd waves are eminent. No flights, no pilots.
Air Cargo from Australia is stopped. Only the vultures of Fed Ex, DHL, and likes are flying at 4x the cost of Aussie Post.
Just Stay Home. ....as our Prime Minister announced.
lol.
You seem to have an issue paying 4 times the price for postage, so get used to paying 4 times as much for hotel rooms and everything else as you "visit home"

Exactly, shorter quarantine is stupid, for anyone not vaccinated.
But as you say there are problems with new strains and outbreaks, with the new strains showing longer tails.
Add to that Astra vaccine problems and the political arguments over supply, and I don't see a smooth ride here.
NZ about to open a travel bubble with Australia now looking shakey again after a breakout in Brisbane.
i doubt it.
Arden said last week that the bubble would be state based.
So if the bubble was in place now, she would simply stop Queenslanders from traveling to NZ now.

Since the vaccination does not stop the possibility to spread, how does Thailand think to contain spread to the rest of Thailand who is not vaccinated? This "tiny detail" seems to not be discussed at all...
Realistically what we're looking at, is Phuket being cut off from the rest of Thailand until they have vaccinated over 70% of the rest of Thailand...this can take a long time and is is quite something...
We have an approved "plan" but no details are not being shown. As someone who has a business in Phuket, this is very worrying.
Does anyone here know anything more?lol.

Too many schemes. Too many problems. Which scheme shall we hatch this week?
When we see boarder crossings re-open between Burma, and Thailand, then and only then will international travel begin to follow.
Until that situation is addressed, nothing will happen with international tourism. .
No workers, no business, no tourists.
its border.
Go back to school.

Many here - especially the entertainment venues - don't care about any regulations. How can such a place be a sandbox for people without quarantine?

It won't happen because they'll trial it out first on the islands, like Samui and Pha Ngan, and when they find after a month or so that the virus is ripping through the entire population, even if they've been vaccinated, due to new variants arriving in Thailand along with the vaccinated foreigners, they'll realise that it's a huge mistake and shut it down.
For a change, Boris and the UK are ahead of the game, they realise the risk in allowing even vaccinated people to travel abroad to who-knows-what may be lurking out there. After their heroic and highly expensive vaccination campaign (£12 billion and counting, compared with the EU's expenditure of less than £2 billion, and yet they still whinge and complain, but what did they expect, cheap idiots) that should soon return large parts of the economy to normality, the UK government won't want to take any risks with new variants arriving against which the vaccines used may be much less effective. Sorry folks, but there won't be any holidays in the sun this year, and Thailand should get used to the idea.
Yes for the UK as they are currently an orange zone country according to Thai government i wouldnt think they would be eligible.
i would think it would only be for Green Zone countries.

4 hours ago, Kerryd said:I can see that lasting, maybe, one whole day before they discover "foreigners" who've snuck off to Bangkok.
Or Chiang Mai. Or Korat.
Or wherever they really wanted to go in the first place but went to Pattaya instead so they could avoid quarantine.
Not to mention that within a week they would probably discover that a lot of those tourists weren't really "vaccinated" at all. And then they'll discover outbreaks of the virus in Pattaya and the surrounding provinces, resulting in another lockdown.
Unless they have tracking bracelets that can't be removed - at all - and security monitoring (and rapid response teams on standby) - they won't be able to keep people from "sneaking out".
What do they think ? That they'll put a locking steel collar around their necks connected to a hardened steel chain that prevents them from going outside of their hotel rooms ?
(Yes, I have no doubt that some of you will think that is what they will try to do.)
It's basically a plan that is designed to fail before it even begins.the forged vaccination documents will be an issue with or without sandbox

As from 1 October, we will let you dirty foreigners in, but you can only go to places in Thailand that we say so.
Yeah sounds awesome

You take your chances mate as my neighbour in her 40s got it, her immune system attacked her nervous system and she is now in right state, can't move about with most of her lower body locked up and its ongoing and ongoing, but of course fortunately for your facts she isn't dead so hey ho, everyone to their own huh? Regardless of the fact that when the rest of the world is running around tossing their hair freely you probably won't even be allowed in a restaurant................good luck to you ????
touching story. Dont believe 1 word of it, but it was touching.
