I agree with BritTim. But and I am particularly addressing the OP on this: if you ask many questions you are going to be taken for a fool, if you will, and whether your employer is (of) Indian (origin) or otherwise, you might end up staying where you are - they will just not mail you the original paperwork you will need for your visa. I am not going to be the one who will do things illegally either nor like Tim will advocate you taking your chances when you have learned full well on here what is legal and what is not. They will say, let sleeping dogs lie, why do you want to play the perfectionist, after all you are not drugdealing or stuff. Just working the 90 days of probation before we decide whether you should stay back or go back to India.

Foreigners having insurance would only benefit Thailand if it were provided by Thai insurers.
How do you mean, pls?

How often do hospitals take farangs to court for not paying up? Like one in every two cases or a hundred cases.
Where do they keep him or her? Such people who have got better but unable to pay. Dont reckon there are holding places in hospitals for non-paying patients.
If they do manage to go to court with their claim, can the court call up tax paperwork from the farang's native country? A review of his assets etc?

A prospective employer once asked me to come to Thailand on a tourist visa ..." we will get your visa converted." I inquired with CKGS and they said it could not be done, if you wanted to work for more than 14 days you needed a work permit even with a non imm b visa. Now it seems one can work on a non imm b visa for the first ninety days without a work permit. there is no such thing as an employment visa. when you go for the extension of stay based on work that is when they see if you have got a work permit. that is why you should get a work permit. if you were planning to work as an apprentice or some shit for 90 days i guess you can get your visa and go have fun. Moral scruples and the lack of guts prevented me from taking up the aforementioned prospective employer on his offer. By all all means ask questions, they will be answered here; but it might bring bad luck as it did to me.

In my experience asking too many questions brings bad luck. Just get your visa and leave. Work permit etc will come to the arrived. Ask your questions from there if you have any. Why be cagey about your job? Respect your privacy. No harm sharing that. I am at my wit's end thinking what an Indian can do. I hope you can make yourself useful. I wish you tons of luck! Less talk more walk will get you there. My 2 cents.

Why dont you explain the situation to the hospital and tell here what they say.

Been in Thailand for nearly 30 years.
A work permit is issued by what's called 'The Labour office'.
To get a work permit you require to first get a Non Immigrant Visa.
When you have the Non Imm' visa the company you will be working for will supply the paper work required and you go with your company representative to the labour where, if all is in order, you will get a work permit.
That is the way the vast majority of people working in Thailand do it.
It could get very complicated to go into starting a company, having 4 Thai employees to allow 1 WP to be issued and holding only 49% of the shares etc etc, in those cases the expensive help of lawyers will be needed.
I truly appreciate your comments, overherebc. The OP has not cared to join in the discussion but thank him all the same for provoking it. While you are here if you can refer me to a forum like this for visitors to Russia please include a link in your post or PM it to me.

As usual totally wrong info' from a website.
There is no such thing as an employment visa.
I wish you could tell (me) how you came to know that was so. Thanks to you and ubonjoe for putting me and all readers right on this. Deplorable but it works for me :-) Cheers.

There is no employment visa. I wrote that he would need a non-b visa before entering the country.

How do you mean there is no employment visa. I got the above document from the ckgs website.

For a work permit your employer needs to say that they would be paying 45,000 (?) baht per month. also in the application i guess your employer will be asked why they have to hire you and not a local.
-
The non imm b visa does not permit you to work - i am not sure why ubonjoe isnt asking you to get an employment visa. your employer would need to visit with their labour office and apply for a work permit for you, the wp3 receipt that they get they can email it to you which you can include with your application for a non imm b visa or an employment visa ( i am not very clear on this). when you get there you can show the wp3 and ask them to give you a work permit so that you are able to work legally.
My 2 cents.

What kind of job are you going to get, brother?

Why you care? You seemed to be concerned about having exactly 750, as if having more would be a problem. Then you ask about 60 days or METV. So all of a sudden you have financial means to stay longer? sure. It all sounds suspicious. But carry on
I get your point man thanks. let me know if you had better ideas to share.

ah BS. If looking for longer stay and only having 750 USD, it all sounds dodgy.

the original poster went from just staying 4-5 days then rambling about longer stays, tourist visa, then METV. Sounds like Freudian slips to me
Just looking at the possibilities if I may.

Although not easy to get, you should try for a multiple entry tourist visa in India before coming if you wish to spend more than 60 days in Thailand.
How does that work when border runs only gets the Indian 7 days? When I checked multiple entry is on the list of visas granted here. So on the 60th day on a METV what do I do to get an extension of stay?
-
Is it possible for me to leave Thailand on the 60th day ( on the last day of my stay allowance) and go to one of the neighbouring countries and apply to the Royal Thai consulate there for a fresh tourist visa and get a stay of 60 days upon entry --because at the max a border run would give an Indian not more than seven days to leave Thailand and would hate to come back to my country to do so.

The fee for the VOA is 2000 baht.
Will I get a receipt upon payment? Will they accept hard cash? Should I go and get Thai baht from the travel agent, then?

As far as I know there is no way to get around the requirement to show a bank statement.
The reason they want that is due need of something that can be filed away with the application.
If you are not staying longer than 15 days the visa on arrival would be a good option. I don't recall any reports of people being denied one if they had a ticket out of the country within 15 days and the equivalent of 20k baht in cash to show.
Just 4-5 days. Bank statement is a pain in the unmentionable, believe you me, banking really sucks like never never ever before in India, I am ashamed to say. Ok, thanks, will get it then. Is visa free?

I have 750 US dollars in my possession and I am in the process of applying for a tourist visa from CKGS in India. I had purchased the currency from my travel agent last year for another trip which did not happen. I wish to know how I can show that I had adequate finance when applying for a tourist visa instead of bank statement. Thank you.
Also I am insecure about visa on arrival - the fear that I would be rejected for some silly reason scares me.
Any help appreciated.
friend stuck in hospital with huge bill he can't pay, what now?

Falangs dont buy insurance after they have arrived in Thailand, do they? The OP has not explained what visa his friend is on. If he had bought insurance from a Thai insurer, Thailand would lose money. More so if his accident were brought on by himself.
