Maybe .... there'll be a coup or something in Thailand.

We already had one in 2014 in case you missed it, and it didn't hurt the Baht at all. Nor did the one back in 2006 as far as I can recall.

We have had a great many coups over the years and that is not what effects the baht to most currencies. The status of The Australian GNP and other national policies with Thailand are the reasons that the baht to The Aussie dollar changes. With the Thailand people making more money their cost of living goes up as does ours along with it.Since a lot of Farangs are on a fixed income we have to cut back.I can no longer afford to play golf as often as I used to and have to cut down my Pattaya trips from BKK .And like most Farangs I truly do not want to go to what was my home .After all these years my friends are here not there.I could not enjoy the conversations that I have there as I do here with all the different nationalities while meeting new ones everyday. No I will just tightened my belt and stay here.

  2. Go to Cambodia first then the Philippines, then Thailand. You will like the crazy times in Cambodia but be glad that you left for the Philippines with all the cheap beer and young girls that you can handle while you are learning how to protect yourself from armed robbers and the worlds best pickpockets. You will then go to "The Land Of Smiles" . A land that caters to the interest and whelms  that can please everyone from families ,backpackers, and the single seeking all the pleasures of life, while meeting some of the most friendliest people in the world..You will now learn that this is the place that you will now live or  will always come back to . Enjoy my friend when you arrive and pleasant stay.,,,,DJ

  3. So it all started with the stupid act of being overstay (because I can afford it for a few K attitude). Then adding to the next round of ignorance by leaving your passport in a motorbike (oh yes Unsecured bike) then causing a row with a Thai instead of getting a policeman. You are lucky that the immigration boys are not involved as you would be waiting for a plane ride home. Does your girlfriend help you to dress in the mornings also? ?

  4. So ,From the act of being so stupid as to being overstay, then leaving your passport in a motorbike instead of carting a copy of it. And then not securing the bike properly. Now if you have been here long enough then you should have learned by now that you can not "confrunt" a Thai as you are then in the wrong by not alerting the police

Who the hell leaves a passport on a bike?

    Dumb asses thats who.it.

  5. As onera ask " how long is your over stay ?" I am thinking that since you did not take care of this before there is a lot that you are not divulging and unless you have a shxt pot full of money you better just try to get the 20,000 and a plane ticket out and turn yourself in.Otherwise you could be in the immigration detention for a long time. Cheap flight to the PI and start over again.

i suggested taipei earlier - i don’t think there’s much difference in living costs overall these days- last year i was at a “Hash” in Taipei - all the girls: women looking for partners were called into the circle - 6 walked in !
Another issue in Taipei is the average salary is quite low - so it is possible to live a “ local style “ life affordable - i love the place - totally safe.

You are right, out side of rant and taxies the cost of living here has gone way up .There are many things at the grocery store and entertainment venues that cost more here then in America. Taipei and other places in Taiwan are very nice.

For me, my next stop would be Panama, Columbia or Ecuador.  The Visa process is a lot easier than Thailand and the Immigration Police are not constantly hassling the expats.  Safety and healthcare is about the same as Thailand.  I have roots here now, so I do not think about moving often!  There are really a lot of options in this world.

Try Brazil and their hot blooded women.

i run my soon 45 year old E-Type in broad daylight and people, including policemen, give me approving looks.

driving another 23 year old car a few years ago and high speeding on Sukhumvit (Pattaya) on a sunday morning i was stopped and had a 1k Baht note ready with my license. two boys in brown approached me and i was fingering for a second note but then they were happy after asking me to open the hood, asking questions about the engine and were surprised when they counted 12 cylinders. i was then released with a polite "thank you Papa, have good day Papa."

Both parents are dead, so I'm on my own trying to figure anything out now. Along with my US Army issued birth certificate, I found my "Record of Birth Overseas" form that shows I was born in "United States Army Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand", which I'm assuming isn't there anymore. It also lists my mother as a "Thai National". Do I need to contact the Army or an American Embassy...? How's that work?

So you waited about 50 years to do this? It will be very difficult unless you were born in a Thai hospital,no what town or Ubon and you were registered by your mother in her village. There are many Thais with a second passport in another country but they keep it secret from the Government.I am thinking that if you could get a Thai passport you must give up all citizenship to other countries.
