I really hope this turns nasty for them. That´s the only way they will learn to not play with their citizens life and possibilities to take care of themself.

Totally agree. Once the middle class Thais who were making 30,000 or 35,000 baht run out of cash, which is going to be very soon, then this no longer is an issue only for the poor people. Middle class Thais are beyond angry about the government's handling of anything, and there will be millions of hungry, angry people with nothing left to lose who will be unstoppable.

It's definitely going to be challenge to distribute the funds to many people as the last address or direct deposit acct on file with the US Treasury/IRS may no longer be accurate as many people change addresses and/or bank accts each year.  And I expect few immediately notify the IRS of an address change like the IRS prefers you do.

Instead people just wait until they file their next federal tax return with their new address and bank acct info for tax payment or refund.  And then you have many people that don't even need to file a federal return and may have moved several times since filing their last return.   Unfortunately, the bulk of these folks are in the lower income group which will probably have the most need for the money.

For me, I had to switch my mailing address in mid 2019 (didn't physically move....just had to change my mailing address which is what the IRS has on file for me).  While I immediately notified those federal agencies sending me monthly pension checks like SSA, mil retirement, etc., I did not notify the IRS....I figured I would wait until I filed my 2019 tax return sometime between Jan-Apr 2020.  Well, I've had my federal return done since mid Feb but sometimes being a procrastinator and waiting to triple check my return I just set on the return for a month.  Was letting it season on my computer hard drive so to say....open it occasionally to check some entries again...close it...and then repeat the cycle over the weeks.   Yeap, even though I was getting a refund I was procrastinating...in no rush to file even though I was getting a refund....may just wait until early April to file.

However, but, when seeing the US govt is probably going to be sending out a healthy size one time payment--possibly a payment via snail mail...of around $1,000 as soon as early-mid April and knowing the IRS still had my old address on file I got motivated.  I finished-up my federal return mid last week and efiled which has my new address and latest bank acct info for direct deposit.

So, I sure hope if they decide to use 2018 return income to determine the size of a person's payment I also sure hope they use my 2019 return efiled last week for my current address "if they decide to go the snail mail route for payment."  Now if they go the direct deposit route (which they probably will where ever possible) I'm good-to-go there whether using my 2018 or 2019 return.

For people who are currently receiving monthly govt payments (SSA, mil retirement, civil service, VA, etc) I expect this upcoming corona virus one time payment will just be sent to the direct deposit acct/address on file currently being used for those payments as that gets the money distributed fast without address/bank acct errors causing the payment to be rejected...get lost in space.   And if a snail mail payment gets lost in space you can bet the govt is not going to quickly issue you a replacement check until after some extended waiting period in order to see if the snail mail check returns to them or don't get fraudulently cashed.

I expect we'll know by mid week what Congress decides on as they go thru last minute Democrat-Republican food fights and pork barrel add-ons in final tweaking of the size of the payment, size of unemployment benefits, loans for businesses, medical system funds, etc.  Hopefully, Donald won't throw a money wrench in the process as Congress decides as he's done enough damage already.  And of course the stock markets will tank further as they decide.

Not to be critical, but the story ran rather long.

  3. The the O.P., I'm not a psychic but your future is going to be so much worse than you can possibly imagine, and it will happen so quickly you won't know what hit you until you wake up under a Rama 4 bridge heavily stained in urine and relieved she left you 15 satang to book a ticket home.

You met a girl who is "on scholarship". She recruits sponsors such as yourself who will soon enough agree to send her a monthly stipend of perhaps 10,000 to 20,000 baht, maybe more, and each sponsor gets to spend a few days with her on each visit to Thailand. She's employing the e-commerce subscription strategy that has proven very successful across industries, where rather than trying to sell a product to someone once, you sell a monthly investment that gets very hard to cancel non-violently. You came to Thailand to get screwed, and now you are.

I would wish you good luck but that wouldn't be honest, nothing good will ever happen to you again. Take care.

  4. To the O.P., you say that no lockdowns have worked so far, to which I say, "San Francisco, idiot".

Perhaps you spend less time on the computer making stuff up? Maybe take an online course involving some sort of learning? Or education?

    Stay safe and be well.

  5. Remember, if you never get tested, you'll never get Covid-19. People who call their local Thai public hospital when they suspect they have it aren't told to come in for a test. They are to stay away, stay at home, wait and see if things get worse, and good luck.

So Thailand does not have many cases of Covid-19, just a lot of people who have it.

Wouldn't it make sense then to just make everybody mask up? Instead of giving the public the false assumption that if you don't have any symptoms you don't need a mask?

Hospitals already ran out / will soon run out of masks, so it's logical that governments don't want every Joe Schmoe using up valuable resources needed by doctors and nurses, who may be in contact with 10 different infected patients a day, while Joe Schmoe is not treating infected patients. If governments make masks sound like the a sure thing for prevention, hospitals will be out of masks even sooner.

Seems fair to the shops that had to close since they're inside malls, can't have other shops selling the same thing still open because they're supermarket and is exempt from the closure/ban

I don't want to call your opinion moronic, but I'll ask a question. The shops that have been forced to close, how does it help them to not allow supermarkets to sell similar products? It helps no one, and it hurts both the supermarket and every consumer who wants to buy something restricted, and it hurts the overall economy which doesn't get as much of a boost from consumer spending.

    stay well.

If those 200.000 had only 10 friends, that would mean 2 million people would know at least one of them.

I think it's a safe guess that at least 8 out of the 10 friends are having certain regrets about the friendship right about now.

. And,no,you can't transfer money out of Thailand using PayPal.

i use my Thai paypal account linked to my SCB account to send money to a paypal canada account way more often than I would like. When you click "transfer" in your Thai paypal account, it should present you with the option of sending money that is already in your paypal account, or sending money from your linked bank account. And I did exactly the reverse, sent money from the canadian paypal linked bank account to my Thai paypal account, done in seconds. What you cannot do, i believe, is transfer from your Thai bank account to your Thai paypal account; only the reverse is allowed.

and all the progressive are patting him on the back and telling him what a brave man he is..

while conveniently ignoring the fact that he's been lying to his wife and family for 27 years

so you want him to keep lying??  And do you really think his wife has been with him for 27 years and didn't have the slightest inkling he's gay? Starred on TV with a puppet? London theatre actor? Joseph with the rainbow-colored coat? she knew. it still doesn't make her pain any less, but at least now she can get to know the real him.

Or maybe it's just to make life easier for Thais living here?

Thank you for a great laugh, I was ROTF. Imagine a Thai government trying to make life easier for Thais, why would they even consider doing that? That goes against every instinct and innate response they have. it's so unimaginable, it's comedy gold. thank you again for the laugh.
